Six Flags St. Louis (SFStL) Discussion Thread

p. 550 - Hallowfest trip report!

Recommended Posts

Sources say that the park is not likely to open on the new date of April 4th. The park is now shooting for late April. This week, minimal amounts of employees are preparing to completly shut down the park and get it to a state where it can sit completly empty for a couple weeks. After this week the park will be completely shutdown. No one will be allowed in or out except for essential personal, such as security.

St.Louis County has also banned gatherings of 50 people or more until further notice. Effectively closing the park until that ban is lifted.

Truly sad times.

Yeah, but they just said on the news that the 50 person ban doesn't apply to businesses. They mentioned casinos and gyms can stay open. I agree they may not be ready by April 4, but I don't think it will be due to the ban.

I do know that they were supposed to have another weekend of training today and yesterday for ride ops that didn't happen.

I kind of wondered if they might reschedule that for the first weekend in April and try to open Easter weekend. But it might be after that.

Meanwhile, I would normally be ecstatic over the unexpected 3 weeks off I'm now having; but with so much closing, abd I suspect there will be more tomorrow, there's no where to go and nothing to do. Bummer.

One thing I've been wondering that hasn't really been answered by anyone yet is what the park's closure would mean for entertainment specifically this season if opening day was pushed back further than early April. Six Flags Over Texas already reportedly cancelled all entertainment through Fright Fest due to the closure, but their audition/rehearsal process isn't the same as SFSL's and our shows typically don't start until the end of May/early June these days anyways so maybe it'll work out? We'll have to just wait and see I suppose

If I had to guess I'd probably say if we have any entertainment only Miss Kitty's would come back. The cast seems to mostly return every season so there is familiarity with the show though that isn't guaranteed.

Then of course you have to wonder when the water park opens since this could eat in to the preparation times for that.

I'm afraid we're potentially looking at months, not week's.

Our trip through Ohio in June is looking very very very dicey. The next thing will be pass holders looking for refunds. In six flags current business state, this could really force some parks to close forever.

Basically...shit.

We're platinum members too, and they haven't said anything to us either. St. Louis City and St. Louis County are going to start a mandatory stay at home order starting tomorrow, so it's getting real here. Eureka is on the Western edge of St. Louis County, so this is really out of Six Flags' hands now.

If it means anything, my platinum membership was purchased from SFOT and I have received emails saying that for each day the park is closed, a day will be added onto the end of the membership at no charge (or something like that). I received something similar from SeaWorld San Antonio.

Our membership is through SF Great America, 'cause we didn't know the park you activate at is considered your "home park". No e-mails from SFGA.

They really should extend memberships, or at the very least, allow people to cancel their memberships without the cancellation fee that happens if you cancel before 12 months is up.

That's not a solution. The way that works is you cancel your membership and the cards keep working for x number of days.

They should really put the memberships into a maintenance mode where they cost like $2/mo apiece.

The Ninja just made the TPR 2019 Top 10 Worst Steel Coasters (non-clone) list, coming in at #9. Finally, something to hang our hat on.

..and yet my gut tells me it will still be around for another 10 years.

Believe it or not, but I actually like Ninja. Okay I don’t like it, but I don’t hate it. I think it’s a little fun and it’s not that rough. Maybe it’s just because I always saw it growing up. In the mid 2000’s, I was just getting tall enough to ride the roller coasters with over the shoulder harnesses. My mom and brother LOVED Batman and Ninja at that end of the park. They looked so intimidating to me as a child. I remember when I finally got to ride them. Yeah Ninja is a bit rough around the edges, but it’s still a fun looping coaster.

Consider yourself lucky. Seriously. If you can find fun in what others can't that's just one more thing for you to able to enjoy. I haven't been on Ninja in a long time, but it's hard for me to imagine it being in the bottom ten of all roller coasters. Does some of that have to deal with the awkward/boring layout?

I remember people loving it when I was a kid. Before Ninja, the only roller coaster I would ride was Mine Train. I was too afraid to ride anything else. My Dad made me ride Ninja as soon as I was tall enough. He was stern and I didn't have a choice. I made that son of a bitch regret it, since I made him ride it an additional seven times. The black belt of roller coasters started my infatuation with parks and roller coasters. That probably explains what's wrong with me.

Maybe I'll go give it a spin just to see how terrible its gotten. Oh. Wait...

I went to the park for the first time in 1999 and I remember picking up the brochure from our hotel and seeing Ninja’s bright red train with a white stripe spiraling through the serpentine corkscrews on the cover. I wasn’t tall enough to ride it at the time but I’ll never forget how gorgeous I thought that image was.

However, I was tall enough the ride Screamin’ Eagle (which looked beautiful and GARGANTUAN at the time) and it’s been one of my favorite wooden coasters ever since.

^Thanks for the video! Its really cool seeing one of my favorite coaster's on media day

On the topic of Ninja, once I actually grew tall enough for my head to be above the restraints a few years ago, I actually don't mind ninja. I've been on rougher coasters than Ninja.

Umm can we talk about the last shot of that video where a news reporter and cameraman are standing on Eagle's catwalk when a train full of riders comes screaming by!!! Lol, wild times...
