ComeRideWithMe Posted February 27, 2018 Posted February 27, 2018 Not sure why I even thought about this yesterday, but riding the coasters at SFOT I noticed when leaving the loading area if they turn to get to the main hill, they turn to the right to make the u-turn. So watching coaster videos I noticed the same thing. They make a right u-turn to get to the main hill. Is this a thing or just my experience? Sorry wasn't sure where to post this ridiculous question.
robbalvey Posted February 27, 2018 Posted February 27, 2018 It's a ridiculous question. Going to move this to the main forum so you can get some ridiculous answers.
thrillseeker4552 Posted February 27, 2018 Posted February 27, 2018 I'll be the first to provide a ridiculous answer... I think it is a complete coincidence. Iron Rattler turns left to get to the lift hill. So do tons of other coasters like Ride of Steel at Darien Lake, Sky Rocket at Kennywood (even though it's a launch), Raptor and Valravn at Cedar Point, Patriot at CGA, Apocalypse at SFA, and tons and tons more that I haven't mentioned. I've thought about weird stuff like this too, such as "are counterclockwise or clockwise zero-g rolls more common," and questions like this are nothing more than a coincidence I think. There's no way that much thought goes into small stuff like this, but it's fun to think about anyway.
FeelTheFORCE Posted February 27, 2018 Posted February 27, 2018 Where's the person who made all those random graphs in that one thread?
steamedturtle Posted February 27, 2018 Posted February 27, 2018 Not even RCDB keeps stats on number of direction changes, and the direction of the change. But now I need an answer!
Nrthwnd Posted February 27, 2018 Posted February 27, 2018 So....in Australia.... do most coasters ....turn to the left?
bert425 Posted February 27, 2018 Posted February 27, 2018 . . resist the urge to comment about things that hang to the right. . . resist. . . resist. . . . . . .

AndrewA86 Posted February 27, 2018 Posted February 27, 2018 Oh boy, the one's I have been on from the top of my head, Blue Streak at Cedar Point and Raptor turn left. I believe the Cedar Creek Mine Ride does too. The Red side on the Racer at Kings Island turns left. So does Banshee. Thunder Run at Kentucky Kingdom. Jack Rabbit at Kennywood turns left out of the station, and so does the left side of the Kennywood Racer. Wild Eagle at Dollywood, Tennessee Tornado. Plus the one's like Millennium Force, Maverick, Diamondback, and Top Thrill Dragster that don't turn at all...
ComeRideWithMe Posted February 27, 2018 Author Posted February 27, 2018 OMG great answers. But, I'm not talking about a left turn I'm talking about a complete u-turn so you're going the complete opposite direction of the loading area. It seems they u-turn to the right. NTxG, Titan and Judge all make the right u-turn. IDK.
FeelTheFORCE Posted February 27, 2018 Posted February 27, 2018 So which way does Kennywood's Racer turn?
joelwee Posted February 28, 2018 Posted February 28, 2018 Apocalypse, Gold Rusher, X2, and Twisted Colossus at SFMM all make left u-turns toward the lift hill, but that same park also has other coasters that turn to the right. This is one of those odd questions that I've never thought about, but I'm seriously pondering it now that it's been brought up.
ytterbiumanalyst Posted February 28, 2018 Posted February 28, 2018 Coasters don't turn to the right. They turn to the left three times.

chickenbowl Posted February 28, 2018 Posted February 28, 2018 Twisted Timbers literally only makes right turns. So you can assume all other coasters must too
CaptainUnknown Posted February 28, 2018 Posted February 28, 2018 How are we going to quantify coasters with multiple lift hills such as Twisted Colossus or The Beast? And what about coasters with extensive pre-lift sections such as Thunderation or Kennywood's Jack Rabbit?
DoinItForTheFame Posted February 28, 2018 Posted February 28, 2018 OMG great answers. Rai Fox Posted February 28, 2018 Posted February 28, 2018 Ah. We're in that point in the off-season now, are we?
gerstlaueringvar Posted February 28, 2018 Posted February 28, 2018 It’s an industry secret. It completely depends on the side of road where you drive on. There are Fujiyama, Big Apple Coaster and Surf Coaster Leviathan that turn left because Togo is a Japanese company.
djcoastermark Posted February 28, 2018 Posted February 28, 2018 FunSpot Kissemme. Mine Blower takes a sharp left -turn out of the station to the lift. The mind, blown was mine.
Jetstar2 Posted March 1, 2018 Posted March 1, 2018 Usually if a coaster runs clockwise the first turn is to the right, and if it runs counter clockwise, the first turn is to the left. At my home park they all work like this and it's a 50/50 mix of each type.
RCT3Bross Posted March 1, 2018 Posted March 1, 2018 This Thread ruined me in like a minute. Now I want to know if it's more common to have the nose of the train on your left hand or right hand when you board a coaster. Time fort the season to begin again.
