CoasterMateo Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 It'g going to be Windy, Very Windy. You probably know that only certain rides will be open, Maverick runs in windy conditions, Dragster doesn't. I suggest doing what coasterbill said, only a limited amount of rides will be open.
CP Maverick Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 Good luck tonight! I'm heading to Mansfield Reformatory for a proper "haunt" tonight.
coasterbill Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 With wind like that it's impossible to say what would be open. Assuming the forecast is right i'd say there's a chance that Maverick will open, Corkscrew could open but it's not scheduled to open Friday nights so never mind ... Rougarou is a possibility, maybe the woodies... Who knows. Unless they blow the forecast forget about Raptor, Gatekeeper and Dragster and Magnum and Millennium Force are most likely out of the question too. On a night like tonight if anyone actually shows up I never understood why they didn't just try launching some Dragster trains. I get why a lot of rides can't operate but if Dragster rolls back a few times, who cares? If they try 4 or 5 times and it fails every time I understand that but a lot of times it goes down for wind after clearing the tower with no issues for an extended period of time just because the wind speed kicked up a few mph and I never understood that. Does anyone have any insight? I'm sure there's a reason for this policy but I don't know what it is.

So even if it can clear the tower if Intamin say do not run this ride if winds are over x mph or temperature is below... I know at Everland T-Express is one of the first that has to shut down in weather conditions such as rain, wind and temperature. They usually time the rehab each year for Jan/Feb just because there are almost no days they are allowed to run it and when we used to make trips in November/December it was always a big gamble (https://www.everland.com/web/multi/english/everland/attractions/popup/pop_attraction_standard.html)
KPfan Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 With a weather forecast like that, I'd be spending some time in frontier town drinking some moonshine. Then I'd just sit back and watch people get scared by the Haunt actors.
ImNotOneOfYou Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 Reports show that Iron Dragon has valleyed
RollerManic Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 That looks like it'll be a pain to remove, unless they're close enough to winch it to the brake run.
coasterbill Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 It sounds like the only coasters running are Maverick, Blue Streak, and Rougarou. Good for Rougarou, hopefully it never stops in the mid course or they might as well leave it there all night because it's never making it back. lol It'll be interested to see how they get that Iron Dragon train, hopefully they don't move the webcam so we can find out.
RaceBoarder Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 That looks like it'll be a pain to remove, unless they're close enough to winch it to the brake run. How exactly do they fix a coaster that has valleyed? Logic says that location has a lot to say in the matter... Do they have a method to attach a winch to supports or something along those lines?
RollerManic Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 Most of the time, removing the wheels and lifting the train off by crane will be a guaranteed fix. Some parks may have a sort of quick setach on their trains; others have to unbolt each assembly. Everything depends on location, the day, and the type/make/manufactuer of the coaster.
coasterbill Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 Since we all need more vertical videos in our lives, apparently this is where it valleyed. It would seem like they could easily winch it as it's right near the final brakes but I don't know what the procedure is when it's over water. I'm sure that makes it way more annoying... Twitter Link
coasterkid124 Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 Was it an empty train, because if there were people in it, it would be interesting to find out how they got out.
kcurry11 Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 I can hear people now, "Just get a crane out, and push it through the rest of the run!"

blakelemay23 Posted October 4, 2015 Posted October 4, 2015 This is where things are dead. The announcent has been made, now we sit on the forums staring at piles of dirt. I WANNA SEE ERECTED STEEL.
CP Maverick Posted October 4, 2015 Posted October 4, 2015 There's quite a bit of steel in those foundations.
Philrad71 Posted October 4, 2015 Posted October 4, 2015 Curious to know if anyone was at the park on Friday or Saturday? It was freezing cold here until today (like upper 30's/low 40's), so I couldn't have imagined what it must have been like in Ohio IF they were even running any of the rides. Drizzle and cold...must have been a real bummer for CP to have such a lousy weekend as I assume that it probably kept away the large crowds on both days. Edit: It didn't sound like much was running on Friday, but was curious if it was any better on Saturday?
DoinItForTheFame Posted October 4, 2015 Posted October 4, 2015 (edited) The holding brake!!! Edited October 4, 2015 by DoinItForTheFame
Virus Posted October 4, 2015 Posted October 4, 2015 ^ Sure does look like it. I believe Sheikra's holding brake has that green bit around it as well.
DoinItForTheFame Posted October 4, 2015 Posted October 4, 2015 ^ Sure does look like it. I believe Sheikra's holding brake has that green bit around it as well. Your right it SheiKra's does have the same green strips on it. (Photo from a Coaster Force YouTube video. I tried TPR's POV But you couldn't see the green strips in TPR's video.)
TB305 Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 ^So does Griffon. Love me some tight ass radii on dive machine drops, most heavenly floater ever.
DaMarkSta Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 Saturday wasn't much better than Friday. It wasn't really the cold preventing the coasters from opening but the wind. However by late Saturday night more and more coasters started to open. Which is why I love CP, if it was Six Flags they would've said screw it and kept them closed all day. Around 10 pm Millennium and Gatekeeper were both up and running only about 2 hours left to close, gotta love the commitment to have rides running. But yeah if you visited Friday and Saturday hopefully you liked Rougarou and Blue Streak a whole lot. haha Oh and also Iron Dragon reopened Sunday afternoon after they winched the train out of the valley on Sunday morning.
DILinator Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 As it turned out, I had my friend bring his ticket over and show me, and it said it was good for any Friday, Saturday, or Sunday of Halloweekends. So we made the call not to go. I had a friend who works there report to me that it was really bad, and sand was piled up on the Wicked Twister midway. So that was the final straw. I received the same report mentioned above from a friend who was there that night (and took a few pictures of the valleyed Iron Dragon), that only Maverick, Rougarou, and Blue Streak were open. So yeah... Definitely a good call not to go! We're tentatively rescheduled for the 16th. Hopefully the weather is a lot better. Maybe not much warmer, but at least not as windy, and hopefully not wet! Thanks for the input to all who chipped in!
