Feel free to use it to post updates, trip reports, questions, comments, and of course, general discussion. For pictures and videos of the park as well as past updates, see TPR's Park Index Page.

2 men sue Cedar Point for roller-coaster injuries

SANDUSKY — Two northeast Ohio residents have sued Cedar Point over injuries they suffered last summer when a cable broke on the amusement park’s Top Thrill Dragster roller coaster.

According to the suit, filed Friday in Erie County Common Pleas Court, Joel Neidenthal of North Canton and Whitney James of Canton were struck by pieces of metal and burned while riding the coaster on July 12, 2004. The complaint also says their hair and clothes were covered with a thick, tar-like substance during the incident.

The suit asks for damages in excess of $25,000 and alleges that Cedar Point failed to properly maintain the ride, which had been plagued by cable malfunctions after opening in May, 2004. Joel Reed, an Akron attorney for the plaintiffs, said his clients “want to make sure this doesn’t happen in the future.”

I think its just wrong. Puncture wounds arent nearly as bad as scrapes and slashes. They will heal with virtually no scars.

On top of that, if you guys remember, they were given medical attention and further more asked if they wanted any more special attention and all of them denied it and then were released back into the park where they all, from what was reported, stayed till the end of the night.

Then 2 of them went to their hospitals afterwards. Personally, I can understand the "Im not comfortable with anyone else" but if you can be released back into the park to go ride more rides, you certainly didnt suffer much from the incident.

Honestly now...if that were the case I could claim a whole bunch of crap for the pain (physical and mental) Ive suffered at my work, but Im definatly not like that.

Did this happen in 2004 or 2003 when the ride first opened? I remember the huge 'cable snapping' issue in 2003, because that's when we were there and the ride was down for three days. For some reason, I thought that article might have gotten their dates wrong, unless this happened again in 2004.

We ended up having to wait SEVEN hours to ride!!!!!

Stupid question... Will Maxair go in 360 degree rotations? Like upside down? Or just reach the top and swing like a pendilum?

If you mean like does the arm itself to full flip, then no. Although the ride vehicle itself does swing 360 degrees.

The arm will swing to a bit over 180 degrees or so. So basically slightly over half way.

Though when riding Delerium at PKI you really do feel like you are fully upside down.

Or...they took a picture of Delirium and then changed the colors of the supports and seats. its VERY easy.

I can change colors or add color to BW photos in a couple of hours and make it look realistic. All about hues and swatches.

And it swings to 120 degrees. From sitting down, to 120 thats 30 degrees past 90. So really, the full degree spectrum is 240 degrees.
