I usually ride with my hands up...

Arrow rides I don't put my hands up only because the sides of the train won't allow you to put them up. As stated above, if you try to put your hands up, they'll usually get stuck (Yeah, I had mine get stuck on Python at BGT... that sucked!)

I may get nervous on a coaster and have them down before the drop (SheiKra)... but right before doing down the first drop, they usually go in the air instinctively

I used to ride with my hands up, until I reach parts that gave my stomach a funny feeling, then I would put them down. But i've learned to just ride with my hands up throughout the whole ride. It's fun, feels free and you get the best of the ride that way,,for me anyways.

Both arms up if its an exciting and not uber-painfull coaster as long as the restraints makes it possible. Riding Thundercoaster @ Tusenfryd with both arms up in the rain was amazing because it throws you around so much.

Wild Train @ Erlebnispark Strasswalchen was also awesome with both arms in the air. Gave me a major bruise on my left side though.

It depends. Usually I hold my hands on my lap or in the air.

If I would go now and ride ie. TTD or SF Gadv's GASM (or something quite big) then, I would hold on, but for the (possible) second ride, my hands would most likely leave the restraints and 'end' on my lap or then I would hold them up, if the ride is good, has airtime, is fun.

hands up, but if I ride a ride the first time in my life then I keep my hands down

On my first ride on Apollo's Chariot, I was white knuckled because it was both my first ncoaster over 100' and my first hyper coaster! that is until the helix when I put my hand up . I just found so much air and had so much fun! The 2nd time I rode with my hands up, except for the lift hill.

I'd mostly have to say hands up, except woodies and Vekomas (Viper at Magic Mountain isn't Vekoma, but it's as bumpy as one!). I rode all of Goliath with my hands up, except for that tunnel at the beginning - it looks like it's gonna cut your head off - but anyway, there is SUPER airtime on Goliath, right at the top of the second drop.

If possible, hand up all the way... but it depends on what I take with me (bag, phone, camera - so I would have to secure them and hold on - or if I ride with my 6 year old son - who loves coasters and used to ask me to hold him, but now starts to forbid me to hold him....)

As long nobody rides with "hands in the pants" all options should be OK

Hands up as a rule or one hand when the restraints won't let me get both hands up without me dislocating my arm (as was the case with Space Mountain in DLP this week).

Last year, I tried linking my hands behind my head for a ride on the Kraken. A pretty cool way to ride the opening drop as the thought was in my mind that if the restraints did fly open I wouldn't be able to brng my hands down to stop them.

Hmmmm, I'm sounding like I've got a death wish!

^ I agree. If i know the ride well i'll probaly put one hand up.

On coasters with OTSR and inverts i white knuckle but everything else i just let go!

So...I was wondering, concerning both Millennium Force and Dragster(I have yet to ride them, but I have a trip planned in August to the point)...is it advisable to ride them hands up? Wouldn't the speed be too much? I've only ridden everything in Florida and 'that park in Valdosta GA', and believe me, my hands were as free as could be.

Never having ridden any coaster above 200 feet as far as I can remember, so I'm just worried my limbs might rip from their sockets from the sheer speeds of those rides.

Please tell me I can throw these money grabbers of mine up in the air for those rides because I sure as hell want to. : )

For the record...this is my first post, and I prefer riding with my hands up.

That's sweet, my uncle rode Ghostrider with his daughter when she was 5 lol, it's no wonder why she gets on all the coasters we do and she's not even scared like i was

Sorry about resurrecting such an old thread, but I wanted to share my opinion here.

If a coaster has just a lap bar and it isn't too rough, I'll definitely put my hands up and enjoy the ride. If the coaster is too rough, I'll keep my hands down, but I won't be white-knuckling the lap bar.

If a coaster has OTSRs, it depends on which type it is. Usually I can put my hands up on most B&Ms and Intamins with OTSRs, but Arrow looper restraints don't allow me to put my hands up because they're too small. Once again, it also depends on whether or not it's a rough ride.

Voted 'Hands Up' as its a relatively new thing for me this past year. There isn't much to hold onto on El Toro but that was a big one for me to do totally hands up earlier this summer. Now I can't imagine riding while holding on, I feel like Im more likely to injure myself or pull something if I hold on for dear life. I just go with it and the rides are much better.

That said if its a mostly positive G coaster (like the Batman clones) I don't bother, as the purpose of hands up to me is to feel weightless/neg Gs, no sense in fighting against Positive Gs (like I used to try to do during Nitros helix).
