Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread

Wow Twisted Timbers looks amazing! I think it will be nice to have more of an out-and-back style RMC with all those straight air-time hills for a change.

I already needed to make a return trip to Busch Gardens so this seals Virginia for my plans next year.

Apparently the park sent out an email saying that Kings Dominion will open on March 22nd! Oh, did I say March? I meant May. Alpengeist, InvadR and Verbolten are open tomorrow. This comp

Yesterday, after my brief stop at SFA, I fought through the perpetual Northern Virginia I-95 traffic to check out Kings Dominion's Taste of the Season event - a COVID-blamed Winterfest-lite.  And beli

Too bad Volcano isn't still around. It was ahead of its time not only technologically, but it already had limited capacity down to a science.

I'm glad to see that the new 2018 RMC trains .

What's new about them? Are they different than past RMC trains?

The wheel & chassis setup is a little different (think like NTAG and Iron Rattler's trains), but I believe the bodies/seats/restraints are essentially the same. Only the super coaster nerds would notice the difference (like I did).

I like the similarity in plotline and name to Mystic Timbers! However, I don't see any mention of a shed, so how will we be introduced to the "thing" in the fields?

Looks like a great coaster and I'll definitely try to plan another KD trip next year!

I know a lot of the shed is sarcasm, but for those that do not know, the shed in the field within the renderings is a Haunt maze building to prevent confusion.

To me, this looks amazing! It is even better than I imagined. Between the overbank replacing the first turn and those very small airtime "humps", this is going to much wilder than the POV makes it seem. Personally, I love the theme and the attempt to try and fit it in the 50's-esque area of Candy Apple Grove, while also giving the ride its own identity. I also love the unique look of the station from what I have seen!

^ I would say it'll be in the rotation with Volcano and Intimidator 305 remaining on the early ride time lists. I would also think it is safe to say that Twisted Timbers will be included in WinterFest's attractions since from the promo video it looked like Americana and the Carousel will be weather permitting.

Very cool! I understand being a nerd, trust me. Where did you see the detail of the chassis? I wanna see!

I actually wish they would reconfigure those RMC seats. They could be much more comfortable.

Just check out any of the animations for Twisted Timbers or Steel Vengeance, and take a look at the wheel bogies. The cars ride on two wheel per side instead of the usual one, and the bodies seem to be elevated a bit more off the track.

Very impressive layout! I like that they kept a couple of "bigger hills" on the stretch after the first turn, making the ride a good combination of sustained airtime and lots of short bursts of airtime.

I can now die happy. This baby looks a-ma-zing.

At least wait until you have ridden it first!

The ride looks amazing, everything I could want. Barrel roll drop , consecutive ejector hills , funky turn around elements, and it's at KD!

The name is okay... I think I might call it Scissoring Timbers.

Was anything said about Winterfest other than that there will be one in 2018?

I'm still very curious to know what coasters will be open for it. Did anyone catch anything about that? Did I just miss it?

^^ Just "some of your favorite rides" is what I've seen/heard. Similar to what KI is doing opening Mystic Timbers, I imagine it'll be most of International Street (perhaps Dominator), Planet Snoopy, Old Virginia (without water rides and Grizzly) and the southern end of Candy Apple Grove featuring rides like Twisted Timbers, the Carousel, Americana, etc.

KD's website has a photo of Americana/Carousel and the description reads "select rides and attractions will be open for family and friends to enjoy together (weather pending).

KD's website describes the rides to be open as "family rides and attractions", so that probably quashes any hope of Winter Twisted Timbers or Winter I305. Regardless, WinterFest is a great addition!

Its a shame that I305 is unlikely to open purely due to its location so far from International Street and other areas that likely will be open for the event, as (while its an Intamin with a cable lift) I don't think they'd have to worry about it valleying due to cold weather - that thing hauls into the brake run. They could just turn off the trim on that first camelback if it was a worry.

Though I can't even begin to imagine what the cold air would feel like on your face going those speeds.

I305 never had a chance of running anyway because of it's location, but don't read too far into that. Worlds of Fun's site says the same thing and they're running Patriot and Spinning Dragons.
