StarTrekGeek Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 It looks like they are taking it down rather systematically. I wonder what park they are going to move it to? Probably the same one where Perilous Plunge is going. Wow! That park is getting an awesome coaster and a water ride this year. Lucky them. Maybe Dorney Park?! Or maybe Dorney will even get FOUR "new" rides: Perilous Plunge, Son of Beast, Space Spiral, and Disaster Transport!
Myself Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 ^Might as well throw in Wildcat and Valleyfair's antique cars in too.
historyfreak92 Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 Or, maybe ya'll are just hearing rumors that could be true, or false, I mean we all don't know what happens later in the future, or life!

I know you guys are being humorously sarcastic, but it seems as though Son of Beast and Perilous Plunge were both fantastic attractions in theory. Perilous Plunge proved un-reliable, and Son of Beast seems to have been built really cheaply. I kind of sort of want to go back in time and ride Son of Beast in opening day condition.
BigDipper 80 Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 In all honesty, SOB's layout wasn't terribly exciting. Big drops, yes, but it didn't really "do" all that much, almost like those Japanese Jet coasters.
ElToroExtreme Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 They should have lit the entire thing on fire! That's about all it's worth!
Meteornotes Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 I rode it about a week or so after it opened. Trust me, it was no better then. The loop was the only interesting part, mainly because it was a few seconds where the ride wasn't trying to remove your spine. dt
Ian_D Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 The should build an Intamin pre-fab woodie themed to Iron Maiden called "Number of the Beast"
ValleyfairFan Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 I rode it back in the spring of 2005 and remember thinking that it didn't seem all that rough, (it wasn't smooth, but nothing horrible) but that the ride seemed pretty boring outside of the first drop and the loop. Personally, I think if you've ridden a big Summers & Dinn coaster (Hercules, Mean Strean, etc) it had a similar vibe to it.
Ed Farmer Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 I rode it about a week or so after it opened. Trust me, it was no better then. The loop was the only interesting part, mainly because it was a few seconds where the ride wasn't trying to remove your spine. dt The drop was the only part of the ride that did anything for me. Once you got past the fact that it's on a wooden coaster, the loop was just another loop. The same will go for the rolls on Outlaw Run and FeRat- they're just rolls, very much the same as the hundreds of others you can find on other coasters.
DRACHEN_FIRE_FAN-BOY Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 I would laugh if they put King Cobra back! "The Laser Cobra Beast On FIRE!"
thrillrider Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 I'll be at the park this weekend, I will try to get some pictures if there is anything to see.
Rocket Rodder Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 It's such a shame when the son dies first... ; (
Jew Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 ^I wouldn't be sad if the father decided to join the son in the scrap yard!
Hilltopper39 Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 "^GASP! How dare you utter such blasphemous words about the God of all wooden roller coasters. The spirit of the Beast will eat your soul for such horrendous remarks." -All Ohioans
PennStater Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 ^ Hey, I'm a Pennsylvanian and The Beast is my favorite woodie...
adamico2 Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 I'm from New York, and it's in my top five!
Hilltopper39 Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 I'm from Kentucky and it used to be in my top 5 but recent rides on it fall somewhere near the bottom of my top 10. Anyone else care to share what state they are from and how the Beast ranks for them?
MikeFromMKE Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 I'm from Wisconsin and rode the beast for the first time in August. It's probably top 10 for me, but somewhere in the middle. I definitely enjoyed it and hope I can ride it again soon!
DRACHEN_FIRE_FAN-BOY Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 I'm from VA, and Beast is second on my list of wooden coasters.
Ed Farmer Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 I'm nomadic and don't rank coasters, but it's #8 in my top 10.
coasterbear30 Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 I am from GA and the Beast might make top 20. Pretty boring if you ask me, even if it was my 100th credit.
PhantomNick Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 I'm from PA and I really wanted to love the Beast. And while it was good (felt like a good 8/10 ride for me), I overall would say it has to be one of the most overrated coasters I've been on. I think it might crack into my top 20 wooden coasters, but it is nowhere near my overall top 10. I just felt like it didn't really do much when it comes to what I like in a wooden coaster. And yes, I also have taken a couple night laps on it. That all said, I was a huge fan of that ending helix o' death.....that was pretty awesome! Just one coaster lover's humble opinion.....your results may vary
stashua123 Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 from new pictures it looks like theyve torn down the first turn after the 214 ft drop . http://www.kicentral.com/forums/index.php?/topic/26152-son-of-beast-roller-coaster-to-be-removed/page__st__870 makes me sad about how that once magnificent and rough part of the coaster is being torn down.
SFOGdude25 Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 (edited) I live in Tennessee, and to me the Beast is far from being a really great wooden coaster thanks to its trims, but I still have a HIGH appreciation for its history, and every time I ride it at night, that history just comes alive. It still delivers arguably the most unique ride of any wooden coaster out there today. ^Firewood, anyone? Edited September 27, 2012 by SFOGdude25
