coasterkid124
Kudos to the park for taking the safe route here. While these posters are likely making these comments for attention, it is never wrong to be cautious about threats like that. The last thing you want to here about is people and/or attractions being harmed by attacks. And in reality, all other parks should follow in CF's footsteps here this weekend. Especially Disney, as they could be the largest target in the amusement industry. Checking bags for one weekend couldn't possibly hurt if it means saving lives. coasternut
I always wondered why they didn't tighten entry security like every other park. Should be interesting to see if they install permanent metal detectors...
TBpony414
Glad to see them monitoring what's being brought into the park from the front entrance. I've been staying on-site for 2 days and am shocked that there is no bag inspection whatsoever at the Beach gate, Marina gate, or Resort gate. It's actually really nice to not be checked and inspected like a criminal but feels strange since even Kennywood has you take half your outfit off before entering. Also surprising (in a good way mostly) is that there are no restrictions at the petting zoo either and nobody even monitoring the big pen where the goats are wandering around and you can pet the cavies, tortoises, and pigs. Two days in a row I walked a loose goat back over to the pen as it nonchalantly made its way down the path towards Millennium Force! Everyone has been unbelievably nice, helpful, and friendly. Ride operations have been spectacular with all the ops hustling yet still smiling. Earlier today I was moving my fanny pack around to the back when I loaded into the seat on Rougarou (I hated Mantis with a passion but Rougarou is great) and didn't have my harness down when the guy came to check it. I'm always ready to ride and hate when people aren't prepared but this time I was that person about 5 seconds behind. "Oh, sorry!" I stopped and quickly yanked the harness down, fumbling with the buckle. "That's ok, are you comfortable now for me to lock the restraint or do you need to adjust more?" The guy said without missing a beat or holding up the train. I've never heard an op talk like that to a patron and it was so nice. His name tag read Ski so big thumbs up and thank you! l've been on every ride in the park except Mean Streak, Corkscrew and Ninja and haven't spotted one employee jerking around. Three trains on MF, 6 trains on Maverick and launching TTD up and over like a well oiled machine. And sorry guys but compared to Kings Dominion, CP has some great theming! CpBluestreakCp
Tony posted a new blog article on July 2nd. https://www.cedarpoint.com/blog-article/online-fun/Making-Sure-You-Have-The-Best-Day Important notes from the article: blurred dots all over the giant boxes. He said something about Halloweekends but either way, interesting to note some spots are blurred. And he wrote about the roller coaster timeline on the fence. So he finally acknowledged its existence. Take what you want from it.
Koasterking48
^ Anyone else notice that Cedar Point is really stepping up their game in customer service and employee friendliness this year? I think it may have something to do with wanting the "Best Park" award back for the Golden Ticket Awards... Even if it isn't, it's a really good thing for the guests to be ensured on having "the best day ever". I definitely noticed how much nicer the employees are this season! Also somewhat unrelated, but on my last visit a couple weeks ago, there was some windy weather and some light-to-moderate rain, yet all of the rides except Dragster, Windseeker, Sky Ride, and Magnum were open. These all are pretty obvious for weather closure, but it seems like a much smaller list than previous years. Could the park be loosening their weather policy up a bit? I certainly think so. Dom497
There's something about the dive coasters that they cant have true vertical drops; they're more like high-80 degrees. Its to keep the running wheels in contact with the track during the drop more but I guess it is to reduce stress at the pullout. Up till SheiKra the drop had to be less then vertical to keep the wheels in contact with the track. When SheiKra was built, B&M added springs to the wheels to keep contact...so technically, a beyond 90-degree drop is possible so long as the train has the springs. I wouldn't be shocked to learn all B&Ms do. That's what allows their coasters to be so smooth, and what put Arrow and their fixed-bogie with gaps system out of business. Maybe they improved them in some way on dive machines, but my understanding is that pre-SheiKra dives, and post griffon short dives are high 80s only because of the smaller drop distance. The shorter the drop, the harder it is to get a safe pullout from a steep angle. This is half the reason the post MCBR drops on griffon and SheiKra aren't 90 degrees, but the first drops are. I believe so, when I flew up there last month, it was raining more than just a drizzle. Didn't stop them though, I got there for early entry and got soaked as I got a few rounds on Gatekeeper as no one showed up. MF was running also and I made the mistake of wearing my poncho...yep...needed a new one after a few rides on it. Otherwise, I think they have a lot looser policy, TTD I was told will open 30 minutes after the last drop of rain falls so the hydraulics can dry off a bit, and they were true to their words! Jantzen73
Just wanted to share some pics from my recent trip to the Point... Crowded as expected but Fast Lane Plus took care of that Friday for us and Saturday we got our early entry rides in then hung back at the beach / hotel until the evening. Watched the fireworks then went back to get the last train of the night on MF. From the ride we could see the mess of traffic at 12:45 AM. Nothing new on the peninsula - glad we could stroll back to Breakers... There was increased security this weekend - actually had bag checks and handheld metal detectors. It was a little unsettling the first time for some reason. Then I thought, I've been to countless parks / ball games etc. and never had any issues with it before. So after the initial check it was no big deal. There were some lines at the gates to get in (we only used the resort / marina / beach gates) but they moved quickly. Glad to see that Cedar Point had a plan and it went smoothly. Sunday morning there were no bag check / metal detectors at the beach or resort gates - so I'm guessing this is done for the time being... So another great weekend - perfect weather - the kids finally won their 2015 tweetup coins (I won mine opening day ) - They actually got busted for running a few weeks back and got DQ'ed from the tweetup... thought I taught them better... Anyway, I paid the extra $15 to get into the new this year VIP seating for the fireworks - yes I know it's a way to make more money - but to have an actual seat and food and a great view I found it worth it. It did sell out and I'm sure it will be back next year... Onto the pics... Lookout seagulls - coming in for a landing. These guys landed on the beach. Now that's a flag. One thing I'll say about WindSeeker - it looks pretty. Those 3 squiggles are skydivers. Insert your own patriotic music and booming sounds from this point forward. Make a wish. Loved the reflections off the lake. Boom. Double boom. Lake Erie looking blood red. Oooh. Snapped this from our room - Just couldn't get Maverick in there too. I tried. You can see TTD and MF's train going round, he probably meant he wanted all 3 trains in one shot.
