I think they should one-up SFMM and get a larger custom flyer. It could be interesting to have some turns go right over the beach. They could name it Seagull!

More seagulls is the last thing CP needs

^ BEST. Coaster. Name. EVAR!!

I dunno, I don't really feel that CP desperately "needs" a big new steel coaster. Not saying I wouldn't be excited if one was announced, just don't think their steel collection needs added to at the moment. I'm still holding out hope that the park will add a better wooden coaster. I really think a GCI along the lines of what's being built over at Europa would be fantastic!!

I'd love for them to get a floorless... I've always enjoyed those. They'll probably do something crazy that sets some kind of record but personally I'd be fine with a standard floorless.

I feel the same way.

^I love floorless coasters as much as the next guy but considering they already have mantis, that probably wont happen.

And SFMM just stopped existing, right?

It's still not gonna happen, but I figured I'd point out a little flaw in your thinking there.

Would B&M ever consider building a wooden coaster. That would be a cool surprise. Pre-fab B&M woodie. Otherwise just do the right thing and build a longer El Toro with more twisty stuff at the end. The thought of any of the existing B&M's coming to the Point is pretty blah to me.

My actual guess is 4D from B&M.

Didn't B&M design the trains for Psyclone? I think that's the most they ever did with a wood coaster but I could be wrong.

Anyway if Cedar Point wants to go the wood coaster route, just make everyone happy and put in an Intamin pre-fab. I don't even think coaster enthusiasts would be able to complain about something that awesome.

If they were to take out Mantis and put in a floorless coaster, they would have a better coaster than Mantis no doubt. However, knowing Cedar Point, they wouldn't do that (take it out).

^You are correct and removing mantis does not make a shred of sense, however I have always wondered how difficult it would be for B&M to turn a stand-up coaster into a floorless (or just a sit down) coaster just by trading the trains. You would think the track gauges would be fairly similar, and if it is you would think that putting a sit down train on a stand up track could be possible. I'm not a huge fan of some of the early stand ups (like mantis) but that layout with sit down trains could be good.

Posted

I think it could work, the elements in most stand ups aren't that different than the elements found in most sit-downs, the sit downs also are usually more intense than the stand ups. Would be an interesting question to ask someone from B&M sometime if ever given the opportunity.

I'm just not a big fan of stand-ups in general, and love floorless coasters. So while others love stand-ups and wouldn't want to see Mantis go, I would be more than happy if they replaced it with a floorless.

I can't forsee any situation in the near future where CP removes or renovates Mantis. It's a solid ride, albeit uncomfortable depending on your gender, and the last time I was there (July of this year), the queue was full. Capacity isn't bad (even with occasionally awful loading times, it's still a two-train B&M), and maintainance cant be too much (again, a B&M). Just because we enthusiasts know better things could occupy that spot doesn't mean that the GP will be spamming CP's facebook wall with poorly spelled rants on why they should remove it.

Yeah, even though I personally hate dislike Mantis quite a bit, I'd have to agree with this. From a business standpoint, it is still a good coaster and keeps people coming back to it, so I don't think CP would get rid of it unless they had something monstrously good to replace it with, which I personally don't think they do (as much as I hope they do).

I think they should keep Mantis because it's a great ride. Closet stand-up lover over here.

I like standup coasters, but not Mantis. It's layout is too compressed and delivers a lot of "head banging." It would be better if it was stretched out more.

^I've honestly never had that problem. This past year at CoasterMania, we actually rode it five times just during morning ERT because it was running so well. Maybe I've just been lucky, but it's actually one of my favorite rides at the Point... I'd rather ride it than Raptor, to be honest.

Every time I ride Mantis, there's always bad, uncontrollable head-banging. Also, the blood rushes to my legs forcing them to ache fairly bad. I never ride it by myself when there's a line. The only times I will ride it is if I'm with a group who wants to ride it and the line isn't more than 15 minutes, or if I'm by myself and there's no line JUST to get the credit.

Personally, Mantis is the only stand-up coaster that I have ridden; therefore I don't know if all stand-ups are the same. IMO, I'm not a fan of stand-ups.

^^ I would also agree. I would much rather see Raptor go. I do enjoy raptor but not nearly as much as other people, and I absolutely love Mantis. I've been on a few stand ups but mantis is one of my favorite. I thought it was well received by enthusiasts but over the last few years of blogs and websites...I see it is not. I would hate to see it go, and I love it's tight and intense layout. I liked to compare it to Chang (Green Lantern) for I feel Chang was indeed a stretched out version of Mantis. Both B&Ms at the Point do get some long lines so I don't see either leaving. A bit off topic but I'd rather see DT get the boot even if it adds variety to their collection.
