coasterfreak101
^If the foundations are strong and designed for the keyholes filled with sand, it doesn't matter how much the things weigh because they've already taken that into account. I doubt they'll fill the keyholes with anything though. They might actually sound pretty cool, too - extra room for sound to vibrate inside should make the entrance not just a sight to see, but a sound to hear as well. I'm curious to see if they fill the supports. Do all of the current wing coasters have the supports filled? I feel like in the videos I've seen they don't sound as loud as a normal B&M, and I would assume that's why.
TyRush
Personally i love the classic B&M roar, I hope they dont fill it with sand. And i think all wing-coasters have sand.
B&MIntaminGCI
I don't think Wild Eagle has sand, I remember watching the testing video and hearing the roar.
Coaster_Fanatic
I believe that Annie Zelm (PR) said at an ACE event back in October that Gatekeeper would have sand in it's supports.
3Mutts
I don't think Wild Eagle has sand, I remember watching the testing video and hearing the roar. I think The Swarm at Thorpe Park also has the roar. I believe that Annie Zelm (PR) said at an ACE event back in October that Gatekeeper would have sand in it's supports. That is now outdated, there was a construction tour on here in October were they said Gatekeeper would NOT have sand filled supports.
CpBluestreakCp
Anybody know how loud the wing rider roar is to compared to say Mantis or Raptor? Is there really a difference or do all B&M roars sound the same?
coasterlover420
^I think that's really just a matter of perspective. Because of the locations some may sound louder than others...that's not to say certain ones are louder/quieter, but just location could make a difference, like if it's higher up (Gatekeeper over the entrance) or right next to you (Mantis first drop), or even the surrounding buildings that echo the sound to amplify it...It's also hard to tell because most wing riders are filled with sand. I can't imagine it would be any different since it's just the same amount of wheels rolling over the track at a similar speed. I hope it's just as loud as Raptor, or at least enough to compete! jmicha
^It depends on all those things as well as the wheel compound used. For instance, Hulk has a compound that makes a TON of noise. Therefore the ride is seriously loud and audible from miles away. Dueling Dragons, on the other hand, has a compound used to minimize sound to help the theme of riding on a dragon. But since Gatekeeper isn't trying to keep up some major theme, I'd expect it to have a similar roar to Raptor and Mantis. Quite audible.
vacoaster09
Another piece has gone up in the snow. These guys are determined! 2/8/13 9:48AM And now the zero G is finished! 2/8/13 11:10AM Edited February 8, 2013 by vacoaster09
Randomman295
I shouldn't be one to talk because I've never ridden a Wingrider before, but the keyholes on the Zero G roll look to be the highlight of the ride so far. It's gonna feel like your legs are about to be chopped off, and I love it when coasters do that.
DougMJr
I love the keyholes! To me it looks as if the track is just floating through them. Even if this turns out to be just a big piece of scenery and not that intense of a ride I still think it is a good addition for Cedar Point. coasterjohnh
I'm so happy with this coaster. When Geauga Lake closed I thought I would never get a chance again to ride a floor less coaster. The Gatekeeper looks to be even bigger and better than the floor less from Geauga Lake. I can't wait to ride it.
RCT3Bross
This looks amazing. I expected it to look good but this is stunning. One of my favorite elements of 2013.

(Scrubs off all its speed way to quick, shame after its unique first half). Especially compared to Medusa or Kraken! I have always wondered how forceful the wingriders are. They don't seem very much so, but I think it's decieving in the POV because you can't really see track. Seems calm because its just air and scenery we see! No doubt the chopper effects are a big part of these rides, but its also big and fast, I bet this will be great.

No doubt the chopper effects are a big part of these rides, but its also big and fast, I bet this will be great. I've only ridden Wild Eagle, but I thought that it was a lot of fun. I didn't find it very forceful, but visually, being on a large wing off the side of the track was pretty spectacular. Granted, I probably rode in the worst possible place for forces (the middle car), and I only got one ride that day as the park was really crowded so I didn't care where I sat. I have a feeling, though, that Gatekeeper will have a bit more bite to it. Despite its size, it seems that the ride will pace pretty well. I really love how they're mixing it up by throwing in a couple of airtime hills with the inversions.

Randomman295
Well, that was an unexpected explosion of awesome pictures. Thanks for finding those. As for the lighting on the train, I hope it's just white L.E.D.s. not something crazy like Rip Ride Rockit. You're welcome. CpBluestreakCp
New front entrance looks great, it will really change the park. It seems more "welcoming" as well. With the coaster flying over head, guess guests know what their in for right away.
