rcdude Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 Other than the obvious El Toro (that drop shouldn't exist on a woodie, so how can anything beat it?), I would have to say SFNE's Cyclone. In the back seat, there is an insane pop of airtime going over that hill.
DBru Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 Maybe we should start a new topic -Â "Best First Drop on a Wooden Coaster that isn't El Toro" Â Agreed. lol
Coaster Curt Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 Renegade at Valeyfair, love that first curved drop.
GriffyTiffy Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 American Eagle backwards, front row (Last row to crest the lift, but the front row of the train if it was turned the regular direction). It just felt so... wrong.
TPDave Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 Maybe we should start a new topic -Â "Best First Drop on a Wooden Coaster that isn't El Toro" Â Â Ha! There's a "best B&M train theming that ISN'T duelling dragons" thread somewhere, I should dig it up! Â Although Boulder Dash at night is pretty close, I still think El Toro takes it.
STR8FXXXINEDGE Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 Of the 92 wood coasters that I've ridden, I'd say El Toro (SFGAdv), for sure!
australianalex Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 For anyone who's ridden T Express - how does that first drop compare to El Toro's?
Werner Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 i also check in on the El 'Freaking' Toro vibe in this thread. But a good second and third place are for second Colossos(Heide Park) and third Balder(Liseberg). See the Intamin first drop goodieness?
texcoaster Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 Rattler, opening season. Â It was so good, it generated lawsuits. Â Seriously, no wooden drop has ever made me spew profanities like that one did. The Freeze Frame booth was hysterical... pic after pic of a trainload of riders at the bottom of that drop, and almost nobody had managed to keep their hands up. In fact, most were white-knuckling the bar, hunched over, head looking at the floor.
dominoes Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 Tonnerre de Zeus. Back seat you get so much airtime, and the tunnel scares the crap out of you... Â
jason10 Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 El Toro in the back, obviously. Â Cyclone at SFNE in the back seat is up there. I didn't expect too much from it and then suddenly I was slammed out of my seat. It terrified me, but it was great!
tiger01 Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 Of what I have ridden... 1- Megafobia. In the back, you get whiped into it and then you start your descent, Brace, and enjoy! 2- The Grand National. Intense airtime on the double down and the accent back up is really steep. 3- The Big Dipper - My first woodie. The first time I rode it, it scared the crap out of me. However it's a great fun ride!Although the first drop is not as good as the other two.
screaminkid2005 Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 El Toro in the back, obviously. Cyclone at SFNE in the back seat is up there. I didn't expect too much from it and then suddenly I was slammed out of my seat. It terrified me, but it was great!   I couldn't agree more!
Coaster Cordalis Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 Balder at Liseberg (Sweden) back row, for me - but only because I don't know El Toro, I guess...
crazywolf88 Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 ^This thread is for best FIRST drops on woodies, cyclops' OMG airtime drop is in the middle of the ride. Â For me El Toro. Why? Because it was a drop where there was so much airtime, the steepness felt unnatural and it felt like it went on forever.
cal1br3tto Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 ^Yeah, that sums it up about El Toro. Looking at the drop from the lift hill gives me pause. I miss it!
IronWolfman Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 ^This thread is for best FIRST drops on woodies, cyclops' OMG airtime drop is in the middle of the ride. For me El Toro. Why? Because it was a drop where there was so much airtime, the steepness felt unnatural and it felt like it went on forever.  But it's first drop is STILL Awesome in he back seat!
rollin_n_coastin Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 I can't remember if the crazy drop on Cyclops is the first or only main drop or not, regardless if it's in the middle of the ride. For sure that would be my favorite drop. If it isn't the main drop, then I'd go with El Toro back row.
cal1br3tto Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 It seems like a lot of people only like Cyclops for THE drop, but I thought the first drop was pretty intense as well.
WhichWayUp Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 Long time lurker, first time posting I think the best drop is on the Beast. Both drops are amazing at night with it being almost pitch black back in the woods!
Hilltopper39 Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 Voyage's first drop was always very good in the back seat, but I'm gonna throw in a dark horse vote for Kentucky Rumbler's first drop. The curve off of the lift generates enough speed to give an awesome kick of airtime in the back seat and a decent floater though out the rest of the train. I've always that drop (as well as the entire ride for that matter) is very underrated.
