Gutterflower Posted August 22, 2017 Posted August 22, 2017 (edited) OK its not a roller coaster or a theme park but In the Taihang Mountains China has opened something quite unique. This is essentially a glass bottomed water slide through the gorgeous mountain scenery. Stretching almost 1.3km down the mountain side with over a 100m in total height difference it certainly looks like great fun. Now why is it glass bottomed? no idea.... Because China? http://www.he.xinhuanet.com/photo/2017-08/22/c_1121522816_3.htm There's also a very short video of one of the rafts as it nears the bottom of the run. None one of the more scenic sections admittedly but I imagine one of the few easy places to get a photo. http://weibo.com/tv/v/FhGVo4Re8?fid=1034:d4d233e7b1fdc8b3dba0c53503b3a44b Edited June 12, 2018 by Gutterflower
Rai Fox Posted August 23, 2017 Posted August 23, 2017 Completely unbanked? That looks so strange. I assume perhaps glass is harder to shape into big sweeping turns. At least from that video it doesn't look to move very fast, or that could get pretty uncomfortable in those turns.
ytterbiumanalyst Posted August 23, 2017 Posted August 23, 2017 This looks like the water slide version of an alpine coaster. It's in China, so it's probably super sketchy...but I'd probably ride it anyway.

Canobie Coaster Posted August 23, 2017 Posted August 23, 2017 Did Golden Horse enter the water slide industry? If I wasn't worried about the manufacturer, the ride looks really cool.
boldikus Posted August 23, 2017 Posted August 23, 2017 I think I would draw the line at this ride. Like this? But yeah, this ride (slide? I think it's more a of glass flume, no?) looks totally sketchy in the most beautiful way possible.
SoCalJasonland Posted August 23, 2017 Posted August 23, 2017 The scenery is pretty but it looks like it is hard to see through the glass floor of the water slide because of the rippling water in the trough. I wonder if you have a better floorless feeling when you are actually on the ride but most of the photos don't appear that the glass is see-thru.

cfc Posted August 23, 2017 Posted August 23, 2017 This slide looks pretty cool--and genuinely frightening.
SharkTums Posted August 23, 2017 Posted August 23, 2017 Wouldn't ride this myself and wouldn't put any of my family that I like on this ride.
flagrockerthegreat Posted August 23, 2017 Posted August 23, 2017 I will be honored to ride this! *cough* the water slides aren't unique here.
mikeykaise Posted August 23, 2017 Posted August 23, 2017 I like it the different take on the Alpine coaster, I would ride this.

805Andrew Posted August 23, 2017 Posted August 23, 2017 It would probably be borderline for me trying it. If I were near it I'd probably try it once but I would be a bit nervous. The scenery is beautiful, but the turns aren't banked, the wall is super low, and I would have to hope that the glass is resistant from cracking in the long run. I would love to see if a reputable company like ProSlide built their own version of something like this.
PKI Jizzman Posted August 23, 2017 Posted August 23, 2017 Honestly the decline appears so gradual, it looks like clunking down a sidewalk with a couple garden hoses providing the water
Alice Kane Posted August 23, 2017 Posted August 23, 2017 Honestly the decline appears so gradual, it looks like clunking down a sidewalk with a couple garden hoses providing the water Hmmmm, actually, it looks like the way I ride down city sidewalk hills on my kick scooter. Traverse. Klunk. Traverse. Klunk. Traverse. Klunk!!! In truth, I could see SKIING this as more pleasant than "fluming" down. At least you could do nice banked turns (unless you face-plant over the mountainside). Alice
