P. 651: Montezooma's Revenge project terminated?

^Yeah, I wouldn't do public transportation, it just doesn't work well in LA.  Go for that shuttle service for LAX and use Uber around the park.

Anything that requires a road doesn't work well in LA as long as the sun is shining.  We've hung out at the Chicken Dinner Restaurant for an extra three hours just so we didn't have to deal with the traffic between Knott's and Victorville.

And I would take the traffic in LA (just drove all over for a week there) over the people in my hometown that simply Do. Not. Know. How. To. Drive. Lots of volume in LA but at least drivers know how to merge and are relatively courteous about it compared to St. Louis. In fact we kind of had fun driving all around Hollywood when we made a stop at the La Brea tar pits on our way from SFMM to Belmont Park in SD. Funny how differently we all view the same thing, lol.

^ There's a difference between being stuck in gridlocked interstate traffic with no escape heading into the Cajon Pass, and driving around the surface streets of Hollywood with a billion different means of escape if Fairfax gets backed up.

Couple question about Scary Farm:

Does anyone know if the mazes are gonna have plexi barriers like Universal is doing this year?

Also, Ive heard a ton of people are abusing the accessibility pass right now, does anyone know if that impacts the fat lane for rides or mazes? or are they seperate?

Thanks!

Can't speak as to the haunts, but for the rides, it's hit and miss. Some of the rides like Xcelerator and Silver Bullet have their own dedicated fast lane entrances, and accessibility passes enter through the exit. For others, such as Jaguar and the log flume, both groups go up the exit. And then there's Coast Rider which has its own fast pass lane but when we visited a few weeks back it was locked shut and they had us go up the exit instead.

They were trying to send a message.  You didn't get it.

Guess I have gotten lucky, lol! Driven all around San Francisco and multiple times around LA and never had gridlock that lasted more than 10 minutes and I've always found California drivers to be aggressive but fair and decent drivers. Where I live people speed up and purposely try to block you getting on the highway all the time. Stupid. But I actually like to drive, my husband hates driving......so to each their own.

No one has seen the mazes yet except for the build crew, so no word on the plexi.

Fast Lane at Knott's lets you bypass a LOT of line for most rides, so the impact of accessibility passes would be negligible.  Some rides have a dedicated FL line, some go to the exit.  Mazes generally don't accept accessibility passes because the queues are designed to be ADA compliant, negating the need for an separate accommodation.

It looks like each side was lit differently.  This side has looped tubing.

20210902_144302.thumb.jpg.8392a7354807a24edbb86f972fbab789.jpg

The opposite side of the "K" was lit in white single tubes.

Looks like one side is the original lights (which probably don't work anymore) and the other side is new lights that were installed for this photo op.

There should be no plexiglass dividers in the mazes per the ride ops I spoke to today who attended the employee preview Haunt event.

They have a sugar free Berry Punch that is pretty good and is in a couple of locations in the park.  The drink stands in front of the arcade near the bumper cars and the one in Camp Snoopy near the kiddie coaster both have it.

Theme Park Review was invited back into the fog at Knott's Scary Farm for 2021! Although down to 8 mazes this year, the event still brings the screams with returning maze favorites and one new maze. What was most appreciated it the amount of Scare Zone monsters that were out in the street! This was most likely a reallocating of monsters that would have been in the mazes to now be in outdoor area, which was a great option.

Mazes were enjoyable, several show options were scattered throughout the park to enjoy when you found maze wait times to be on the longer side or just wanted to sit for a bit. Note that the last hour of the event sees very low wait time for mazes, so to maximize the event, don't be afraid to enjoy the shows between 9-11:45pm, and then enjoy the shorter maze waits when other patrons have departed for the night.

Thank you to the Knott's team for inviting us, and congratulations on the return of Knott's Scary Farm!

And Gore-ing 20's is a brand new area in Charleston Square in the back of the park! "Step back into the dark decadence of a by-gone era as the newest scare zone, The Gore-ing 20's, terrorizes even the bravest and most brutal souls. Here gangsters run illicit hooch for the ghostly revelers as the otherworldly musicians play the music of the damned. Tell the Bouncer the secret password, and you'll have the time of your life…for as long as it lasts."

We loved the playfulness of this bygone era and the fun around prohibition!

Outside the Walter Knott Theater was a flapper ground and swing band! Inside the theater is Puppet Up!, an adult improv puppet show, which we highly recommend!

Not a good look to have two of the most popular rides in the park down for haunt.  Hopefully they can get them back up and running soon.

Especially after being closed for over a year.

I am surprised about HangTime. When did it go down, June? Over 3 months now? Must be a pretty serious issue because obviously they'd open it if they could given the crowds the park is seeing this time of year.

Wipeout

Xcelerator The Ride®

it just closed Monday.  it's fine.  it's either going thru some rehab or it's staffing.

Just checked, both Xcelerator and Hang Time are still listed as dead in the water.  I'm gonna be at Scary Farm this Saturday and, I'll be honest, I'll be a bit miffed about spending upwards of $200 $236(!!!) and not being able to ride either.  I'm well aware that they can't control when things break but, you know, give us a break on the price if the two star attractions are out of commission.  I just checked out The Old Joliet Haunted Prison outside of Chicago this past weekend and they gave the guests who purchased the Fastpass entry free zombie laser tag because there was no difference in wait between standby and Fastpass.  Something small like that goes a VERY long way towards making people happy.

I hear you! I’m heading there next Wednesday and Thursday and was hoping one of the two would come to life. If not I guess marathon ghostrider and… montezumas?! The weekday crowds are usually dead right now thus the visit, but maybe those two being down will actually create wait times during the day. Hope fast lane isn’t in order!

You’re not paying for the rides at haunt. You are paying for…Haunt where the rides also happen to be open.

the Joliet example you give makes sense because the product people paid for had NO value.

^ If that were true then the prices for Scary Farm wouldn't be at a large premium.  See below -

Saturday, October 9th prices per their website -

Knott's Daytime - $59 admission, $99 Fast Lane, $20 parking

Knott's Scary Farm - $77 admission, $159 Fright & Fast Lane, $25 parking

But yeah, sure, I'm totally paying for haunt, not rides.  Come on, man.  In years past I've been able to enjoy Scary Farm with Fright Lane and the Boo-fet for $150-ish.  Without the Boo-fet this year I'm already getting shafted for $236 before parking.

Edit - You know, after doing that math and knowing I'll only be seeing one new haunt, one new scare zone, and two less coasters it really pisses me off.
