Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

P. 2037: Siren’s Curse tilt coaster announced for 2025!

Recommended Posts

Even if Mantis were to get converted to a Floorless, it would still just be a "decent" ride. I would rather have them scrap (or relocate) it and replace it with something bigger and better, Cedar Point style.

I don't know that a modern B&M design ends up being better than a B&M design from 1994. Bigger? Probably. I enjoy Mantis, and while I'm in the minority on that, the complaints are overwhelmingly aimed at the type of train currently on it's track.

This 2015 addition feels like (to me) an in-between major expansion kind of addition. Gatekeeper in 2013, and Mantis facelift in 2015 to hold people over for a bigger coaster project in 2016. Just a guess.

With the biggest coaster coming in 2016 to be from Valleyfair, and it won't be as big as say Banshee or Fury 325, Cedar Point might be in for something in 2016. However, I believe making an existing coaster better can work the magic long enough to hold Cedar Point back for a few more years as Cedar Fair focus on the more neglected parks.

I do have to say CP's operations were awesome, that's not the reason it lost. I mean, the entire front half of the park is pretty much a concrete slab with coasters and a few other rides slapped on it. The back half is fairly nice though.

Even though I love MF, Maverick, and GateKeeper, I would still rank SDC, HW, KI, WDW, IoA, and SWO above CP.

I agree, CP fanboys will get mad we don't rank the park extremely high. But, it is a great park. I just like Kings Island, and Holiday World better. I don't agree with the layout thing you mentioned though. I think the park has a great layout for what it is.

I don't think Iron Dragon is being removed, but if it were, I doubt it would be relocated to another CF park. Of the 10 Arrow suspended coasters built, none of them have been relocated. All that are no longer operating have been scrapped. That appears to be the fate of most old Arrow coasters of late, perhaps they are not profitable enough to relocate?

You never know, it could be marketed as new. I wouldn't mind if it did get moved, just move it to Dorney park or something.

Once again in regards to Iron Dragon...

In 2013 it had more riders than Top Thrill Dragster and Maverick. It's not going anywhere... the only coasters in the park that get more riders than Iron Dragon are Millennium Force, Gatekeeper, Raptor, Gemeni (barely) and maybe Magnum but that number isn't available. People really love this ride. The line is almost always full and overflowing onto the midway.

While complete removal is not out of the question for Mantis, it is pretty obvious they will not be able to replace it with even an average-sized coaster (or any major attraction for that matter) in time for 2015. There simply isn't enough time with those winters to build anything significant before the 2015 season begins. Combine this with Dinosaurs Alive on its way out, Cedar Point appears to be losing more than improving even if Dinos were not the most popular. Based on the viral marketing and Tony saying there is more to the story, I have become less skeptical on the suggestion of a floorless conversion and more on board with the idea of it actually happening. While not the most popular, Mantis is still a reliable and thrilling ride that is, in my opinion, not worth removing without an immediate replacement of something much better that doesn't even have to be a coaster.

^The one with the questions? Basically once again, he confirms the removal of Mantis that no one thinks will happen.

The removal wasn't confirmed, he never said it was being taken apart piece by piece.m

He did state Mantis was leaving their lineup forever though.

Yes. Mantis is leaving their lineup forever. Mantis is. Mantis. The roller coaster you know as "Mantis" will no longer operate at Cedar Point after October 19th.

And not mention Iron Dragon is good coaster for kids who just reached 48" mark and want a more thrilling ride than Jr. Gemini!

More like Woodstock Express.

CP is being extremely selfish on this.

Why can't they just tell us what they're doing with Mantis so we can quit bitching about what we don't know, and shift our focus on bitching about what is happening to Mantis.

Then we can bitch about the people that are bitching about the new ride.

Then Robb can come in and tell us all to stop bitching.

Then we can bitch about how Robb runs TPR.

Then we can get banned for a while.

Hopefully for you, that time being banned will help you understand what marketing is? And maybe learn how to be more cleaver and humorus on a forum.
