bluestreak
Another great day at the park. It was fairly empty but I had to leave at 2. Got on 7 coasters, one of which was SV this morning. That brings my lap count to 9 and it gets better every time. God I love that thing.

JJLehto
Even without Steel Vengeance, the park has the greatest collection of coasters in the world. I understand the complaints, but any day where you can still ride that trio of Intamin coasters is a good day. And yes, I know the rides were down for part of the day, but it sounds like those that stuck it out got on most coasters. Absolutely. They truly do have the greatest coaster collection, its like almost unfair they are taking what is possibly their worst (and only real bad one (ya gotta know what to expect with ones like runaway train)) and now is possibly their best. I also get the frustration but Im also a bit confused...we are the snobs, erm experts, while I get the excitement (I am crazy jealous of people who have already gotten multiple rides) ya gotta be expecting that early season there will be bugs/kinks to work out, and the park wont be in full swing. Either go later in the year or accept this stuff may happen. And yes, its not like you will have a bum day without it
VGplay
How's that working out now? The park was quite dead today. By the late afternoon Steel Vengeance's line was only down the straightaway to the station, about 30-45 minutes with the one train.
KIJester
Hi guys, just a quick question regarding staffing. Will I be OK the first weekend in June from a staffing perspective? I know Sandusky's last day of school is June 7th but what worries me is that Sandusky High School will be having their commencement ceremony on Sunday June 3 and that is the very day we are visiting from NC Do they perhaps pull students from areas (high schools) outside of Sandusky? christianscoasters
^Sandusky is smaller than you think. Most employees at the park are not locals. Staffing will be fine by then
ytterbiumanalyst
Cedar Point has dorms and hires people from all over the world. When I was in high school, I had a friend who went to work for them the summer after graduation. He just moved there and stayed in the dorms, then came back at the end of summer. I wouldn't worry about it. Cedar Point's operations are essentially untethered from anything going on in Sandusky.
Sarakosta
Around 1000/1500 associates out 7000 are foreigners, and out the rest, based on my experience I would say a vast majority are not from Sandusky

RobertWord
Those damn executives. How dare they enjoy the fruit of their labor. You must not have been around executives much, man. Their daddies didn't pay for their Yale education--ahem, for a smart poor kid to do their Yale homework for them--so they can "labor." It’s their park, they should be able to do what they want. Don’t like it, don’t go. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Staffing will be fine by then seriously! the only thing I saw of note in Sandusky proper (once we left the CP peninsula) was a CVS (which we got directions to from the front desk of Hotel Breakers). that was our only trip into "town". . .but it was good the CVS was there, as we were able to stock up the room/fridge with snacks/waters

PKI Jizzman
What a weekend to spend away from the internet! Just catching up on all of this now and woooooowie. This will be a fun thread to follow throughout the season. Week 1 was very exciting, who knows what's to come for the summer! Did anyone ride Maverick and notice the added effects/attention to the tunnel?

From Memorial Day to Labor Day you're golden. I avoid this park like the plague outside of those times though. Pre-FL was a different story, but it is nice now how you don't have to strategically plan so much anymore with CP and dread going on a Saturday. Some of my best times at CP were in early May around the mid to late 2000s. The park was an absolute ghost town, and they were so desperate to attract people, they offered specific early May weekday package deals to the Breakers that were a steal. The package included your stay for two nights, a starlight ticket and full day ticket for two people, around $50 in "munch money," and a whole slew of other coupons in a booklet. I can't remember the exact price without digging up old receipts, but I know it was less than $300. I remember frequently being the only ones walking on pathways, but everything was still open, so no complaints there. But in recent years (the past 5 years or so), we've been going on Mother's Day, which has been the second weekend they're open. I think maybe once it fell on the Sunday of opening weekend, but I don't recall ever having an opening day-like experience. That way I can continue to get amazing, low crowd days in May, with sub half hour waits for the brand new coasters! (While operations on Opening Day are indeed awful, and there may be a few other hiccups here and there, talk about how poorly staffed and operated the park is in May is GREATLY exaggerated! I've been going regularly and frequently during this time for over 20 years, and wouldn't dream of doing CP any other way! )

I should be able to answer that question for you after Saturday, if no one gets to it before then. I'm anxious to hear how it goes. We'll be there the Saturday and Sunday after this coming weekend, for Coaster Campout. As far as the FL+ goes in general, if we can even bypass 10-20 minute lines on everything FL+ is worth it both days for us. Similar to KI where you ride whenever you damn well please. I just don't want everything to be a station wait and find out we screwed ourselves by getting FL+. Otherwise, we don't mind spending the money. coasterbill
^^I should probably specify that I'm referring to people who have to travel a long distance to visit the park and can only visit once every few years. If you're a local you can get really lucky on a May weekday but there might be rides that aren't ready for the season yet, Gemini won't race, rides may open late and rides like Sky Ride and Windseeker won't run at all if the forecast even looks questionable because they'll send that staff elsewhere. A few years ago they didn't have Wicked Twister ready until memorial day, the following year Mean Streak wasn't ready until a few weeks into the season. If you can visit a lot then you should spontaneously go on a sunny, low wind day in May and you'll have a great time. If you're traveling a long way, you're booking in advance and it's a big trip for you then you're taking a risk by going that early in the season. That's really what I meant by that post. DILinator
^Yeah, I'd say that's fair. I've had more good, nice May days at CP than bad ones, but that's not to say there haven't been some rainy days mixed in there, and it IS very unpredictable weather. Plus, they have been getting worse every year with getting things open on time for the start of the season. I'm traveling 3 hours to the park, so it's not like I'm a local, and I'd recommend people within a few hours distance still take the chance, rather than deal with the Summer crowds. But yeah, if it's your big trip across country to enjoying the park for the only time, the first week or two of June during the week is probably a safer bet! CP Maverick
A few years ago they didn't have Wicked Twister ready until memorial day, the following year Mean Streak wasn't ready until a few weeks into the season. I need to talk to you about that Mean Streak ride. I'm not sure if you heard yet... Also, Mid-May to Mid-June then Mid-August through the end of the year are really the only times I enjoy going. Mid-June to Mid-August the park is just a madhouse and I don't have the patience for that.
