Jim S. Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 The ride looks like something made out of one of the new K'nex sets with the mini pieces. I'm surprised they're advertising it as a family coaster, because I would think the inversion would scare kids away.
Adrenaline_Rush Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 Going off of ^'s post it does look like this Knex ride.
ParkTrips Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 The name sounds more befitting of, say, Beech Bend!! It looks weird but thats ok, most things at IB do
TexTitan01 Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 All I had to read was "120* drop" and my mind went straight to "...ohhh yeeaaa" I hope this is one of those whacked out twisted coasters that looks like the love child of a Tornado and a coaster, and I'm thrilled that IB is getting this Rock on pile-up Theme Parks!
Coaster Joe Posted December 1, 2007 Posted December 1, 2007 I think people will be surprised at this ride. The crowns of each beyond 90 drop will be controlled with mags. This must be done in order to limit negative accelerations on the riders....to -2G (-1G because of gravity and -1G dynamically across the crown). However, once the drop reverses direction and dynamic G's are pushing rider into the seat rather than pulling them out, the train will exit mag control and coast through the pullout up to the next block point. This is very different than the first gen squirrels where the vehicle was controlled throughout all pullouts. Also, the 180/180 curve (180 flat curve with simultaneous 180 roll to the OUTSIDE of the curve) will be insane. At the 90 point of the curve, riders will be banked 90 degrees to the outside. Dynamically, this will translate to extreme airtime through the curve. Easily the most unique new inversion to be seen on a coaster in a long time.
DenDen Posted December 1, 2007 Posted December 1, 2007 Well, the coaster world already has "Wild Mouse" and "Screamin' Squirrel," so it's high time for a "Steel Hawg." Don't forget "Wild Cat"

I fully expect this to be a great ride. Indiana Beach, in my experience, really likes to push their rides to the limit. A slow and boring custom steel coaster doesn't sound like their forte at all to me.
cycamps Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 Could that first drop be considered an inversion?
TexTitan01 Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 I think anything with past 150* banking/etc. constitutes an inversion. It'll sure feel like one though! I can just imagine slowly being chucked out of the seat as the car goes through the crown, that'll be a crazy sensation!
jarmor Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 Also, the 180/180 curve (180 flat curve with simultaneous 180 roll to the OUTSIDE of the curve) will be insane. bigstevet07 Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 "Going Hoggin," sounds like some kind of ACE mixer/singles dance. Seriously though, this ride looks pretty cool. They should market food with it too, like tacos w/hawg, or have a giant hog roast the night before it opens.
Tanks4me05 Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 ^^Somewhat similar, but not quite. This "Steel Hawg Roll" as I call it because rcdb didn't give a name for it yet - banks in the opposite direction of the "Lie to Fly Roll" - the Steel Hawg Roll banks to the right/outside instead of the left/inside - and it does a complete inversion and 180 degree turn instead of a "half inversion" and a 90 degree turn.

ETapley0687 Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 That looks really neat! Haven't payed much attention to this roller coaster since it's been revealed, but it's starting to get my attention now... jus a lil bit lol.
coasterdude5 Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 I gotta say that looks crazy awesome. This ride might be a sleeper hit!
Six Flags Addict Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Wow.....Sweet looking cars. Can't wait to see the layout.
CP_RULES Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Wow, talk about stadium seating! Looks like the back seat can provide the airtime of the back, and the views from the front!
Shockwave Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Looks like S&S's usual restraint system, but good call to raise the rear seats for better visibility. This could probably be merged with the existing Steel Hawg topic.
texcoaster Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Those ratcheting shoulder staples look like the system that used to be on Thriller/Taz's Texas Tornado/Texas Tornado that got removed and replaced by regular OTSRs just before it became Zonga. OMFG those things were painful. Just hope that the first instance of positive Gs doesn't let those things ratchet down another notch or two and give you accordion-spine for the rest of the ride. Seeing the cars actually makes me LESS excited about this ride.
BuddyChrist Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 What does this remind me of? The TOGO Death Restraints on the now defunct Viper at Great Adventure. On a contorted layout, this just looks painful.
USCoaster Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 ^ My first thought was the Togo death restraints on Manhatten Express in Vegas.
BRTeller Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Now I'm 90% sure it is a screaming squirrel, these cars a pretty much identical to them. Does anyone else see this and agree. Still it would be nice to see one in the US.
TheRapidsNerd Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 ^I thought of KI's King Cobra or KD's Shockwave. Pretty cool. Kinda digging this mini-coaster trend of late.
Nemesis Inferno Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 So it's basically Sky Swat seating with stadum style seating... And I like Sky Swat seating...
