Worst ride "neuters"

I completely agree with the raging bull trims, I didn't know the GP had any influence. Also, american eagle's brakes before the helixes, even on a rough run, those helices could be better. Also, BM wing coasters in general, i think it's a great concept, but the rides should be better.

I hate to admit this...and I'm surprised that nobody has said it yet, but Bizarro at Six Flags New England.

 

If you want the correct experience, go on the hottest possible summer day and ride it later in the day, then it'll feel like the old Superman days. Go on an October day during Fright Fest when it's cool out, and unfortunately you'll have a very "neutered" experience.

 

There's been a rumor or two flying around that SFNE was trying to restore it to it's glory, and I really hope that this is true.

Does everyone agree that Magnum's changed that much? I loved it when I rode it last spring, enough to make it pretty much my favorite coaster. Hard for me to imagine it's been neutered particularly.

Not particularly a neuter as I've never experienced it without the brakes on, but Alpengeist's MCBR slows down the train a lot and it kinda plods through the second half of the course. The zero g roll didn't seem to have enough velocity and it was more like a flop around head banger roll and the corkscrew and helix were devoid of forces as well.

Any trim to a coaster neuters the coaster. For example, Mantis's first drop at Cedar Point.

^Actually, form what I've been told (as I only rode mantis after the trim was added) it doesn't make a really big difference. What, for me, does have an impact is how the MCBR now kills a lot more speed than it did when it opened. If you look at 2:58 you can see it travels faster through the second half than it does now. I know they probably did this to make the ride more comfortable as it is already rough but I would like to go through that twisty thingy on 3:10 faster than I did this year.

Any trim to a coaster neuters the coaster. For example, Mantis's first drop at Cedar Point.

 

Nothing can help Mantis, or most other B&M stand-up coasters.

Speaking of trims....

Stopped by Ferrari World this morning for a few hours and to grab a another ride on Formula Rossa.

The trims on that thing continue to annoy me.

I understand why they did it - but it's just disappointing that a coaster marketed as the "world's fastest" launches the train directly into a long series of magnetic trims.

The Mighty Canadian Minebuster at CW used to have an incredible airtime hill after the first drop, but soon after it was built it was removed, now it just has small, drawn out hills.

I agree that this ride is a shadow of it's former self but I can't pinpoint a reason why which is why I didn't mention it. I used to have this as my #1 coaster but it's down around #15 now. It's slower, it rattles and the lapbars are really uncomfortable but there's no one thing that diminished the ride experience. It's still fun but nothing like it was.

Just everything about the trains ruin the ride.. They don't track well (sluggish and heavy) and the lap bars and headrests ruin every sense of freedom. I prefer superman at sfa..

They still run it with the trims off on occasion. It's still ok with them, but it's a whole other beast without them. It's my #1 at CP. Ejector airtime... over and over... it REALLY tries to throw you off the ride

I know that The Beast has been trimmed since day one, but just imagine if some of those trims were removed? I could only imagine how much more amazing an already amazing ride can be. From the few reports I have seen shortly after construction from some of the contractors/park employees from KI indicate an absolutely insane coaster before the trims were added in time for the ride's opening.

 

It would be scary going into the double helix. Imagine 80+ mph. They say they all turned white the first evening they rode it and vowed to immediately add trims the next morning.

I do agree with The Beast, that could pick up the most incredible speed without the myriad of trims it has now. Every time I've been to KI I feel like new trims have been added since my last visit!

 

Revolution at SFMM is another neutered ride that disappoints me. Apart from the awful OTSRs, it seems to have been pretty heavily trimmed, for e.g. you're braked very harshly after the tunnel and before threading the loop and really crawl into the final brake run. Boo.

The trims on Raging Bull's second hill, the trims on La Ronde's Goliath 5th or 6th hill, and the trims on Magnum XL-200 just before the pretzel turnaround are the worst I've seen myself.

 

For RB and Goliath it kills the airtime, and for Magnum it just tame it down so much...

Removing the hold brake on the back spike of Vertical Velocity at SFGAm. I never got to ride it, but I hear it was an awesome experience on the Ride.

We stayed at Camper Village this past summer and they were running Magnum in the morning (with riders) without the trim on for at least an hour or more. You could easily tell because that's all you hear all day long is that annoyingly loud trim brake along with screaming riders!

 

It was funny because my Dad's girlfriends Pomeranian would bark at it every single time he would hear the trim...he didn't like it either!

I think it does. Not that it makes it any better, but it is more intense. As with Magnum, sometimes it runs trimless, sometimes it doesn't (and sometimes the brake barely grabs you). It seems to run trimless more often now after that rollback a couple years ago.

 

One coaster I REALLY like when the MCBR is turned off is Raptor. Makes for an awesome second half.

 

Lastly, I know it has since been fixed, but I305. The only time I have ridden it was when the entire first drop was trimmed. I need to get back to KD.

I don't have personal knowledge, but I understand the Taz's Texas Tornado / Zonga / Whatever it's called in Mexico now had quite the neuter to the loop shapes and first drop. Thought I would add that to the list.
