  1. ^ No it’s ok, thank you. I’m just waiting to get banned at this point. I have been nothing but civil and insightful to everyone in this forum. I just don’t feel the need to censor myself from talking about very real topics raised by another user in relation the theme parks. Civility in discourse and dissent is exactly why we have so many problems in the world today. Just because you don’t like a perspective that you hear that is simply analyzing national trends does not mean it will go away if you bully someone to stop talking about it. That’s exactly why we are so fractured right now as a nation and I thought TPR would be the last place I’d ever see that happen.
  2. Seriously, WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU!?!?! Now "Christmas" is a political thing??!?! Can you please just stop posting to our forums? I'm not joking. You can do a quick google search to see how the use of the word Christmas has become political. Seriously, just look it up. It’s not something made up at all. Also, nice job keeping the forums PG-13 like you say you strive to do in the terms of service. It’s just the nature of the world we live in. If you don’t like it maybe that says more about this country than it does about me, but in any case I’m happy to leave the forums. It was good while it lasted Robb! I would delete my own account, but as far as I know there isn’t a way to do that. Edit: Here are some links because I like to back up my discussions with links, sources, and professional opinions https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.usatoday.com/amp/2401251002 https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/2016/12/19/us/war-on-christmas-controversy.amp.html https://wbckfm.com/the-word-holiday-is-now-politically-incorrect/ https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.history.com/.amp/news/the-war-of-words-behind-happy-holidays https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nbcnews.com/think/amp/ncna1106181
  3. I'm sorry but wearing a mask should not be a "political" thing. That's so insanely stupid. I wear a mask because it helps the good of everyone. I don't give a fuck if they are "left" or right" and anyone that thinks that way really has other issues that I'm not sure how could be addressed. It's honestly a shame that asking people in this country to do something simple for the good of everyone was way too much to ask. We were just talking tonight how Japan, after the 2011 earthquake, all got together and voluntarily shut off lights and other electronics for "power saving" and it worked. We can't even come anywhere close to that level of respect for others. I mean, this sums up my feelings exactly: Hey Robb! When talking about appealing culturally to the right, I think the bulk of the conversation was centered around first of all the fact that SeaWorld still calls it "Christmas Celebration" and not "Holiday In the Park" or "Winterfest". Additionally the shows within, such as O Wondrous Night, contain strong religious overtones. In addition to that it was noted that SeaWorld makes a very strong point to thank military members before Shamu shows and offer free admission to veterans. I agree masks should not be political, but they are. Not following park policy is not an option. Choosing whether or not the park makes masks a policy requirement is an option that the parks get to make, however. We have seen some parks require and others not. I'm curious what you think of Fun Spot's policy and if you have visited or plan to visit them during the pandemic.
  4. ^Lol how much of that $5 pin actually went to conservation? Knowing how Six Flags charges $10 for a bottle of water, I wouldn't put it past them to take a massive cut. "Ohh it's conservation of OUR OWN animals, AKA we use that money to buy food to feed the safari animals" JK that actually sounds like a pretty nice gesture to do
  5. I think in SeaWorld's mind, they are trying to skirt the line to attract everyone. I think they believe the conservationist messaging alone will be enough to eventually attract the left. They appeal a bit more culturally to the right just to give those people a reason as well. They want conservation to be an inclusive movement, not an elitist exclusive one. Not saying it's a good strategy, but if I had to get inside their head, that's probably at least close to their train of thought. Free beer is the big one though... everyone likes when they do free beer.
  6. I think you also might be underestimating just how religious many Latin American people are. These people make up a huge group that is still in the SeaWorld camp as well. Most hispanic tourists (not necessarily hispanic Americans) are also far more right-wing than many would believe as well. Abortion is illegal in all but three Latin American countries, except for in cases to preserve health or save a women's life. (https://reproductiverights.org/worldabortionlaws?country=ARG) The entire Three Kings Celebration, based on Hispanic traditions centered around the arrival of the three wise men, was created with them in mind. SeaWorld has always saluted the troops at the Shamu shows long before keeping whales in captivity was even 1000th on the list of controversial things. I think it's more so that SeaWorld just does not see a need to change who they have always been. As for people not wearing masks... all I'll say is...we'll see how Six Flags does. Edit: This wasn't meant to be confrontational, just wanted to point out another core constituency of SeaWorld Entertainment and point out what they have been doing to cater to them as well. You did give some good points and insights. It certainly is a one of a kind mix of people that go to SeaWorld. The exceptions are interesting though, particularly the few extremely environmentally conscious people that like seaworld. It's almost like the conservationist community as a whole is still split on seaworld/zoos and aquariums on the whole.

  8. ^I guess that means they plan on keeping the sky cabin around for awhile, which is nice considering cedar point removed theirs years ago.
  9. For all the people in the no mask camp, feel free to make a little road trip out of Kentucky Kingdom and Holiday World. They are both only recommending masks and are 1.5 hours apart. Free world, free choices for all! You just have to understand that you don't make the rules, but feel free to act on your preferences! Theme parks across the board need our entertainment dollars this year!
  10. Does anyone know what we do if we are planning on utilizing a free season pass guest ticket and therefore don’t have an extra ticket number to input? I have one season pass and want to bring a friend free. Therefore, I only have one number but need two reservations.
  11. I think we all just need to acknowledge that it is the park's decision to require face masks or not. If wearing one makes you uncomfortable, don't go. If not wearing one makes you uncomfortable or feel unsafe, don't go. We were all given this beautiful thing called free will. We don't own Cedar Point nor are we on their board of operations or in the Ohio government. Either way the park chooses, it will still be there in 2021, I guarantee.
  12. ^You are right, it must have just been a temporary glitch. Thank you!
  13. To be honest I think the governor was worried about people from the Detroit Metropolitan area flooding Cedar Point and spreading it into Ohio.
  14. ^Thank you. I think the best bet is the phone, seeing as there is a good chance Carowinds could still be closed when I want to make my trip. Thanks again.
  15. Does anyone know if there is a way to upgrade a 2020 Carowinds gold pass to a platinum pass online? Can I do it at Cedar Point or will they not know what to do with it and what price I paid originally? Will I be able to make a reservation if I don't have the platinum pass number before reserving?
  16. I'm disappointed that for the Aquatica online reservations, it seems as though priority is being given to those who purchase single day tickets. Under the single day ticket reservations tab there are far more dates available than either the passholder or fun card tab. They should not be doing this to their most loyal customers. They should have a set capacity and fill it up with any ticket type until it is full. I see this as just a way to ensure they get more money even after they continued to charge many of these passholders while the parks were closed.
  17. Kentucky Kingdom posted an updated 2020 calendar, and unfortunately Hallowscream is not a part of it. There is also no mention of it on the website Looking at a 56 day operating calendar this year. I wonder if they are still making a determination, or decided not to do it. Oak Island is gone and maybe they don't have the resources to focus on planning the event. Also perhaps they too are concerned about this dreaded second wave we hear about in the fall. I am glad they are going to get the park open though! Fingers crossed Hallowscream comes back next year and it's not gone for good.
  18. I wonder if the park is going to offer subsidies to the taco shop to stay inside the park? It's GREAT that they are coming back... but it doesn't really fix the issue of why they left in the first place. Unless i'm missing something?
  19. I mean... they are recommending masks and are doing NINE (yes, 3 more than recommended by the CDC) feet apart in the queue lines. People don’t exactly live under a rock. I also don’t see a lot of 65+ people visiting fun spot, hitting the go cart tracks and downing a couple beers. Also Island H2O live waterpark in Orlando opens today. as well.
  20. Lets just say Kentucky has a new governor from the one that "cut the red tape"- Ed Hart- to allow the park to build Kentucky Flyer last year.
  21. New website for the park is up with lots of good info including the option to purchase brick pavers for 2020!
  22. Also, I heard rumblings that Oak Island Creative went out of business (not covid-19 related). Can anyone confirm this? If so I wonder what this means for Halloscream as I know they produced the event last year. Edit: It looks like they did close and all their assets are being auctioned off. If you google "Oak Island Creative Auction" you will find videos of forklifts and whatnot for auction in Louisville, Tampa, and St. Louis. Here is another link from the auctioneers. https://www.bidspotter.com/en-us/auction-catalogues/timed/thompson-auctioneers/catalogue-id-bsctho10407
  23. But if they don’t open at all, they have to refund those 100,000+ season Passholders. I don’t really know if the park can afford to shell out 6 million dollars right now, so even if the operating days themselves only break even it might still be worth it to open. This entire situation is a mess and the park is kind of screwed no matter what they do, to be completely frank.
  24. ^ The attention to detail is amazing. It's almost like they take pride in their parks. This is the kind of thing that has little to no return on investment, but when all these little things add up over time it makes for a better overall experience.
