bert425 Posted February 5, 2018 Posted February 5, 2018 isn't there a hotel literally IN the parking lot there? thought we passed by one (Day's Inn maybe)?
coasterbill Posted February 5, 2018 Posted February 5, 2018 Yeah, but probably not for the price he's looking for on a KD operating day. Then again, I think they just changed brands so you never know...
cfc Posted February 5, 2018 Posted February 5, 2018 isn't there a hotel literally IN the parking lot there? thought we passed by one (Day's Inn maybe)? There are three across the street, too, but I don't know what rates they charge.
AmyUD06 Posted February 5, 2018 Posted February 5, 2018 The hotel in the parking lot is surprisingly cheap for where it is. It's not terrible, but you do get what you pay for.
Philrad71 Posted February 5, 2018 Posted February 5, 2018 We stayed at the Days Inn across the street and it was very budget-friendly in cost. Nothing fancy, but clean...and they had a free shuttle to the park. I really don't think that we paid over $100 for the night...although we went in early May and stayed on a Sunday night, I believe. So while you might pay $20 or $30 more to stay there versus one off of I-95, you can use the shuttle and save the cost of parking - if you're not a season/Platinum pass holder.
WolfBobs Posted February 6, 2018 Posted February 6, 2018 Thanks for all the replies! Part of the criteria I gave is because my brother who will be traveling with me is a huge civil war buff and we will be spending a day or so exploring some historical sites before hitting the park on a Monday. So I was looking for anything decent that would also cut down on the back and forth driving as I know from experience I-95 can be a nightmare. Also, I'm the type who mostly looks at hotels as a bed to sleep in, that said I don't want a run down hotel loaded with bed bugs either. Clean, inexpensive, and free wifi are what attracts me, free breakfast is always an added bonus but I don't usually eat breakfast so it's not end of the world. Sad thing is this will actually be my 3rd trip to KD, yet my credit list only includes Shockwave & Hurler (ironically, now both defunct), I305, Dominator, and Flight of Fear due to some bad luck with weather. So lots for me to hit up and explore while I'm there. Thanks again!
boldikus Posted February 6, 2018 Posted February 6, 2018 I'm tempted to tell you to run right to Volcano since you missed it and I personally think its freaking awesome (and its capacity is horrific). But now with Twisted Timbers on the other side of the park its going to be a major conflict. I'm curious to see what the lines for Volcano will be like with the new hotness.

I know my nephews will want to hit up Twisted Timbers first, their both budding coaster nerds and have been closely following the construction of Steel Vengeance and Twisted Timbers. Honestly sometimes it's all my nephew will talk about (he has Asperger syndrome so I try not to get too annoyed lol) Their other big focus is Dominator, they know I operated the ride at GL and are looking forward to taking a spin on it. If all goes to plan and weather cooperates this trip we will be at the park for night rides on Sunday and all day on Monday following. We will be traveling the first week of August, so even though it's summer travel season I'm hoping the crowds will be tolerable on a Sunday night and Monday.
VACoasterdude Posted February 6, 2018 Posted February 6, 2018 So will Twisted Timbers be open in time for Pass Holder Preview Night on March 23. Has anyone heard when Media Day is for TT? March 22?

I've never seen Volcano go down when I've visited Kings Dominion, but it does always have the worst queue. I waited 2 hours the first time I rode it and basically everything else in the park was a walk-on.
coasterbill Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 So will Twisted Timbers be open in time for Pass Holder Preview Night on March 23. I'm sure that's the plan but I'm not sure how you expect a definitive answer on this.
CoasterAuditor Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 I "like" Volcano but that 2nd half is just meh. It's crazy how people just flock to that ride. I'm like okay you guys have fun standing in line I'll be at the big red giga coaster over here........
boldikus Posted February 16, 2018 Posted February 16, 2018 Admission and Fast Lane Plus for only $64.99?! Don't mind if I do. Thanks Bill for the heads up!
Canobie Coaster Posted February 16, 2018 Posted February 16, 2018 (edited) That's an amazing deal! Does Kings Dominion let you upgrade days admission into a Platinum Pass. I know Six Flags and the Busch parks do something similar. If I can do it with this deal, I'm on board. EDIT- Just emailed the park and they confirmed you can upgrade. steamedturtle Posted February 16, 2018 Posted February 16, 2018 And blue train got put on the transfer track yesterday.
thrillseeker4552 Posted February 17, 2018 Posted February 17, 2018 I absolutely LOVE the look of both trains (especially the green one). I can't wait to see this baby start testing!
bill_s Posted February 17, 2018 Posted February 17, 2018 I kind of think they need some sandpaper and a paint job, but last 2 days have been coaster weather and I'm ready to ride!
boldikus Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 Just like the Mystic Timbers trains, I do not like this rusty look and I think its ironic that just like Mystic Timbers trains, everyone seems to be digging them, because we all know if Six Flags did this everyone would use it as an opportunity to point out how they did it so they don't have to keep on the paintjob, etc. Personally I like the clean look of Twisted Cyclones trains much better than these. That said, I generally really don't care what coaster trains look like and I'm still totally stoked to ride this. I still can't get over that this park with this line-up is getting an RMC. Hopefully we'll see some testing soon.
cal1br3tto Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 I just have trouble keeping track of this generation of heavily themed, often-automotive trains a la several recent RMCs + at least one GCI. I think I like them all, but it's hard to get excited about any particular one.

FeelTheFORCE Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 The car enthusiast in me likes that rat rod look.
