P. 418: Camp Snoopy expansion announced including new family coaster

Recommended Posts

They bought 61 acres to be exact.

I don't think we'll see a hotel at Carowinds in the near future (within the next 5 years). They need to expand the park and bring more things to do at the park besides coasters. They have started that trend but have a ways to go.

When a park needs a "Toyota" - something that just runs, and keeps people happy, and will be solid & reliable, they buy a nice B&M.

When they need a "Ferrari" - something that will F**KING BLOW PEOPLE AWAY AND MAKE THEM GO "WHAT THE F**K" DID I JUST RIDE?!?!? HOLY SH!T!!!!!"

They buy an Intamin.

Hopefully this is the type of Toyota: ft1topsho.jpg.144865b5117c098a25ee5e265045ecae.jpg

How is Vortex? I don't really hear much about this Coaster. Is it rough like a lot of the other B&M Stand Ups, or is it pretty decent?

Small but feisty. It's a good old school B&M, you know, before they castrated themselves. I haven't ridden in some time so I can't comment on current roughness (it was fine when I rode last) but it's a very quick and fun ride.

I guess decent. It's the only one I've ever been on but it doesn't murder my crotch. So not very bad but it's not very good either.

Standups don't really murder your crotch, they just gnaw on your ankle. Now, Standup Drop Towers with similar restraints definintly murder your crotch. The difference is that on one you can actually adjust your seat.

I want Alan S? to design the layout and B&M Build the coaster.

I don't think Alan Schilke would leave RMC in cooperation with B&M. He seems unlikely to design for other manufacturers although he designed Lightning Run's train for Chance

Alan Schlike owns his own company, Ride Centerline, and they do all the ride dynamics for companies like RMC and Chance. I'm sure if B&M were to want to contract his company for those services, he would definitely be interested. B&M used to use Stengil's company for their ride dynamics, but I've been told they do that in house now.

Funny thing to me is that Stengil used to do dynamics for both Intamin and B&M and we see how different those rides came out.

I remember when that area of the park was the most quiet area; now it's the most busy! That includes even when Borg was brought in. Now it's the former Wayne's World area that's frequently deserted. Of course, I believe that's where the new project is going, so...

Makes sense though... I am sure Intamin and B&M have vastly different "standards" they contract out... Intamin may limit positive G-force to 4.5 for a specific duration, let's say 5 seconds... While B&M says 4G for up to 2 seconds. In the final design, they can feel much different in terms of intensity.

At least, this is how I assume it would be done!

I'm extremely impressed! I was tempted to say that KD rebuilt the 2nd curve of Hurler last year and the first curve in 2010, but this far different. I don't know of any case of ride improvement at a CF park that can match it, that was seeming to be Six Flag's (and Kentucky Kingdom's now) thing. It's not RMC -- and simply Topper tracking the first 2 turns would have been a great improvement -- but I approve .

While it took some painful trail and error to learn a few things, I used to really like the Hurler(s) until the trim brake. The brakes only help slightly, though making a bigger difference because of being at the threshold of bodily damage, but make it too boring to matter; I really think they're more about reducing maintenance than improving rider experience.

If this is a success, it might come to KD, but with Anaconda being painted this year so it's not going anywhere yet, and the park filling up, I think it's more likely KD's Hurler will be the site of the next new coaster.

Well, Perilous Plunge was re-painted a year before it was scrapped...

I still wish that the anaconda was leaving...I like the Hurler...but i think you're right. the hurler will probably be leaving.
