Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

P. 2038: Top Thrill 2 reopens on May 3rd!

Recommended Posts

"Hold Onto Your Spurs" Most likely means hold onto your shoes

Suggesting that it's going to be something inverted.

Maybe a Inverted Intamin, like Tornado at Parque De Attractiones.

They might already have Wicked Twister, but back in the 80's park's had more than one Arrow or more than one Vekoma. Just think about it.

A lot of the clues are indicating that this will most likely be an Intamin Wingwalker. The recent video released by Intamin is NOT for Port Aventura or Cedar Point but shows off the maneuvers the train is capable of making. I'll be very surprised to see ANYTHING else just because the clues have been solved, and the shape of the track is proving it further.

-The ride is suspended over the sides of the track and launched by electromagnetics. Okinawaboy has a good point, it most likely means feet-dangling and even moreso a launch rather than a large drop.

-The concept video for the wingwalker shows low to the ground barrel rolls and carving turns, hence the "sidewinding" clue.

-It's KNOWN this is an Intamin concept coaster and this type is the only one that makes sense.

-Over and around the water is the perfect spot for a coaster focusing on multiple but low inversions like I believe this coaster will have. It's a "whole new direction" going for inversions...

Again, I just find this thread to be fun, not trying to disprove anyone but some of the rumors are just silly.

^ It's ME! Honestly, I'm just having a bit of fun because speculation threads are always like this and if you don't see the inherent silliness of 60+ pages of "its gonna be an intamin will it break records will it have loops blahblahblah" then go post on coasterbuzz.

Yeah, I mean here's what we know: There's footers and there's red track that looks like Intamin. Everything else is speculation, whether it's a prototype, whether it will break records, etc. You're trying to decypher the entire thing based off of some construction signs that Cedar Fair probably had a Lithuanian intern write. How many posts have been trying to figure out "sidewindin"?

Hell, someone a few pages back was trying to convince us the red track was a DECOY, like Cedar Fair is trying to pull some elaborate Da Vinci Code shit on us coaster dweebs.

I'm not saying that it's wrong to talk and speculate, I'm just saying the amount of posts and heresay in this thread is very silly (as in funny, not as in stupid).

The signs to me are nothing more than theming. "Sidewindin'" is a general "western" term for fancy maneuvering, which indicates the layout of this coaster.

You all seem to forget the fact that if CP tries to hint things at you, they do it directly. Signs were posted everywhere during MF's construction telling you it would be a record breaker, for example. This ride's signs are far too dodgy to be considered as anything but theming.

I don't see the wingwalker concept at all here. The Wingwalker is proposedly HYDRAULICALLY launched, not LIM - it is simply a train refit for Accelerators, a ride type which CP surely aren't getting (management has stated their unhappiness with said system because of Dragster's issues).

I also don't see anything new or prototypical. What was the last prototype CP built? I don't recall one. CP really only builds bigger versions of rides that have been done already - not new ride types/styles themselves.

As for records? I don't think it will break any. The height/speed records are pretty far fetched in my opinion, given the footer layout, and the inversion record is absolutely ridiculous. In a recent issue of Rollercoaster! magazine, I read how "Kinzel considers inversions to be gimmicky in nature" (ever wonder why CP has so few loopers?) - why would he make himself a hypocrite by breaking an inversion record?

Intamin Inverts are out of the question. The footer layout isn't right for it, and CP already has the Inverted side of things covered, with a Suspended coaster, an inverted launcher, and an inverted megalooper. What's left?

Honestly, I have to say that I favor the AquaTrax concept here. The seats are saddle-style, the ride is an LIM launch, and the layout looks very similar to the only existing AquaTrax - Atlantis Adventure.

http://www.rcdb.com/ig1646.htm

The footers are also similar.

This concept also allows CP to build something that has been tried, tested, and proven - but on a bigger scale.

The final thing - the ride's proposed name, Maverick, represents a wild animal. What else to fit that name than, say, a wild bull-themed AquaTrax car with "saddles" on it's back to sit on? Hmm.....

Well, obviously this new coaster will be very curvy, since none of the track parts that have arrived on site yet are straight. I kind of agree now that it prehapes may not be a looping coaster since all of the curved pieces have (not sure how to word this) spots to connect to supports. Usually there aren't support beams coming off the track all the way around a loop. (hope you understand what I was trying to say there)

^^ I haven't heard about Kinzel's quote about inversions being a gimmic (but I have to agree). However that would also convince me that this new Intamin is not a looper.

I don't seem so impressed (personally) about this new aquatrax concept or the wing walker idea. They seem fun but, not CP's style. I'm pulling for a launching coaster (yes I know, as if CP doesn't have enough recently) similar to a Rita, with some massive helixes and airtime!

Hmmm, never heard that quote before, but if he's so against gimmicks, then why a stand up? Why a suspended ride? Why a racing coaster? They're all gimmicks.

Really. If he's so against gimmicks what the heck is TTD?

You can definitely tell that video was taken from No Limits (a professional version). Im really pulling for a wing walker as they look really cool, but as Wes said thats only speculation and I can only hope.

If it was going to be an aquatrax you would think they would use the water pond for the plash down, rather than what appears to be a double helix.

But maybe its easier to make a brand new area for the splash, or splashes.

Bright red track does seem weird for a water ride also.
