  1. How are SFFT operations typically on a “colder” day? I plan on visiting the park this upcoming Sunday but the high temperature is currently expected to be only 60 degrees, so realistically in the 50s most of the day. Should we anticipate any challenges with any coasters not operating in the cold? We could swap for Saturday which we had planned for Sea World, as it looks to be a bit warmer, but we thought the SFFT crowds would be lighter on Super Bowl Sunday? Thanks for any tips!
  2. And here's another! Not much has changed for me as compared to last year's ballot, as Kennywood was my only new park. 3. I'm not sure of the exact date, but if you aren't completely positive of whether or not you want to do the program, I wouldn't suggest applying as soon as the applications become available! Once you complete the application and have your phone interview, you are only given about two weeks to accept or decline your offer. Since I made the mistake of applying right away in August while still being unsure about the program, I then had to make a hasty decision in September, which seemed really early considering I wasn't going to be leaving until the end of January. Just a quick warning! I felt very much the same way, but I'm hoping that it will truly be an amazing experience! It seems that the biggest issue people have had is with the housing, but hopefully if you suck it up and play by their rules, everything else should be fine!
  4. ^ Thank you very much! I'm definitely leaning towards taking one of the Disney classes now. And Chatham Square does indeed look a lot nicer. Luckily I'll have my car with me, so hopefully its less convenient location won't be such an issue.
  5. Awesome photos and review! This gets me really excited to move to Orlando at the end of the month!
  6. Add me to the list for Spring 2011! I arrive January 31st and leave in mid-August, and will be doing housekeeping in the resorts! Reading through everything in this thread has been extremely helpful, but I had a few more questions for those who may have completed the program already: I will be taking one online class through my university to get internship credit, but would anyone suggest also taking one of the Disney classes too? I understand that the Disney Exploration Series courses don't earn you any credit, however I feel like they could be interesting/helpful for my career interests (I'm wanting to work in the hotel/resort industry). Also, can someone possibly give a breakdown of the apartment complexes? I know you don't choose until you arrive in Orlando and that it often depends on how many roommates you have, but any other information would be greatly appreciated regarding their size, location, etc. I can't wait to leave, and hopefully some of us College Program TPRer's can meet up while we are all down there and visit some Florida parks together!
  7. Are all of the roller coasters/rides open during Halloween Haunt on Friday nights? My sister and I are thinking of going tomorrow, but we don't really care for the haunted mazes and what-not, we just want some night rides on the Beast and Diamondback. Also, what should we expect in terms of crowds?
  8. That's what was odd to me. Since when has a coaster car ever had four rows? Do you mean four rows of seats in each car, or four cars that make up the train? If you mean four cars, I believe that's what Intamin has used for it's mega-lites thus far. So it has been done, but I do agree that it looks strange.
  9. ^^ What he said! I love the Intamin restraints on Maverick and find them quite comfortable... until you've hit the brake run and realize how they have progressively tightened on your thighs.
  10. Dang! Did you get a chance to try the right slide of those two white speed slides? It looks like you could get a nice pop of air on that little drop in the middle. And thanks for sharing these great photos! This looks like a neat water park.
  11. As stated before, I love that the majority of these accidents were caused by guests violating safety regulations, thus putting THEMSELVES in harms way. Yet they failed to mention several notable incidents in which there actually were mechanical/operator errors (SFKK's drop tower, Disney's monorail, and an abundance of SCAD Towers... just to name a few).
  12. Does anyone in the northern Ohio area know when the local schools go back into session? I'm looking to visit the park sometime this August (as early as the 13th), but I was wondering when the crowds might become lighter. Thanks!
  13. Excellent pictures! I'm glad that I'm not the only one that's obsessed with the Legend's first drop! It looks like you and your family had a great time. And I love the Glenn Beck shout-out!
  14. What could've made it worse for me is that I'm super skinny (about 125lbs and 5ft 11), so my lap bar would have to go down a lot further to securely reach my lap. And since the lap bar and shin bar are connected, this causes the shin bar to tighten even more on my already long legs.
  15. I completely agree with your review! The ride itself was very smooth, unique, and had great pacing... but the restraints completely ruined the experience. I rode it this past Thursday once in row 6, and also had the most uncomfortable/painful coaster experience to date. I'm 5ft 11 and my mom is only about 5ft 8, but both of our shins were continuously pressed against the foot bar. I actually had to keep my feet flexed the entire ride to alleviate the pressure. Usually I don't complain about restraints, even severe head banging or stapling, but this was actually painful. I wish I would've known the other seats we're more spacious, but after one unfortunate ride I wasn't about to try it again. On a side note, I do think that Sky Rocket is a great addition to Kennywood, I just wish Premier would have made more spacious restraints.
  16. ^^^^^ Thanks! Yeah, I think we are leaning more towards Monday now. I can't wait to try out STR and even Maverick, since I haven't been there in the past few years. We might also try to hit up Kennywood, as it's also only two hours away.
  17. Great pics! I loved GASM when I rode it last summer! I only took one ride in the front row, but it was very fast, smooth and enjoyable, other than one sharp turn into the mid-course brake run.
  18. So I'm staying at my dad's apartment in Akron OH for the week, and we plan on visiting Cedar Point sometime this weekend. I was just curious how crowds have been lately, and whether it would be best to visit this Friday, Saturday, Sunday (the 4th), or Monday? I'm assuming Friday or Monday would be the least busy, but we will also consider the weather. Also, we won't be able to get early entry (we don't have platinum passes and we aren't staying at their hotels), so any tips or techniques on what to ride when would be greatly appreciated! We do plan on arriving at the regular opening time. Thanks!
  19. Very, very sad news. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Koch family, friends, and everyone at Holiday World.
  20. Sorry if I missed this, but is the Eiffel Tower open during the show so that you could go up and see the lights from above, or do they close it down?
  21. ^ Not to mention SFGAm adding a wild mouse, with a spinning wild mouse just a few steps away. I concur, some very strange decisions lately.
  22. Announcement just made! Ed Hart is back! http://www.fox41.com/Global/story.asp?S=12554421
