boldikus Posted January 10, 2017 Posted January 10, 2017 are any of the other spike/twist impulses still using the holding brake on the spike? Possessed at Dorney still uses the brake And its glorious. (Ill never get why anyone doesn't like the holding brake)
Steely Dan Posted January 10, 2017 Posted January 10, 2017 Valley Fair's impulse did as well when I went, which was 2 years ago I believe. It was definitely a cool part of the ride, I hadn't experienced one yet and I'm glad I got to! Yeah the holding brake on the spike is a crapload of fun and definitely makes for a better ride in my opinion. It's a shame SFGAm runs V2 without it these days. It's good to hear that Dorney and Valleyfair are still running their impulses properly. With the holding brake working, I think it's a wash between double twist WT-style impulse coaster and the spike/twist versions. But without it, the double twist is way more fun. I've never ridden the odd-ball version out at SFDK. Does Anyone know if that one still uses a holding brake on the spike?
RAWKIN_coaster38 Posted January 10, 2017 Posted January 10, 2017 I've never ridden the odd-ball version out at SFDK. Does Anyone know if that one still uses a holding brake on the spike? Hasn't for years. I think they stopped using it before or shortly after the conversion I might be biased, but I think I slightly prefer SFDK's version to WT and standard V2 versions.

I think I remember reading that it had a lot of issues with the holding brake so they just called it quits and stopped using it, without bothering to fix it.
Gerstlauerguy Posted January 10, 2017 Posted January 10, 2017 I personally like Wicked Twister more than Raptor just saying. i second this. I just in general am not a massive fan of B&M inverts (except afterburn. i love afterburn). And I also LOVE launched coasters so that works for WT as well.
DoinItForTheFame Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 I personally like Wicked Twister more than Raptor just saying. i second this. I just in general am not a massive fan of B&M inverts . . . And I also LOVE launched coasters so that works for WT as well. I agree as well. I personally like Wicked Twister more than Raptor as well. For the reasons stated above. I love Inverted coasters, but I am not a HUGE fan of B&M Inverts, and I LOVE launched coasters. . . So Wicked Twister is a win win!
DILinator Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 I personally like Wicked Twister more than Raptor just saying. That's a new one. Well, here's another (likely) new one for you... I personally like Wicked Twister more than Magnum!

MidwestThemeParks Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 ^ I like WT more than Corkscrew, that's about it
thepoint4life23 Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 I think WT is underrated and feel that a lot of people do not even give it a chance!
I Like Theme Parks. Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 Wicked Twister gets completely overlooked because of the park it's in. Out of the CP coasters I've ridden, it's only number 7 for me. And my trip there was before Rougarou, Valravn, and obviously 2018 RMC Mean Streak were added. Meanwhile, at Dorney Park, a lesser version of it easily makes the top 4 or 3 in my opinion.
VF15 Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 Wicked Twister is a fun ride but it's my least favorite of the three impulse coasters I've been on. It didn't feel quite as fast or forceful as V2 or Steel Venom, though I will say that experiencing the back spike in the back row was pretty messed up .
coasterbill Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 a lot of people do not even give it a chance! Define "give it a chance". Every enthusiast that goes to the park rides it (hell, these are people that go and get passes that allow them to ride Wilderness Run for the credit, they're not going to skip Wicked Twister).
boldikus Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 ^ Hell, I tweeted @ Tony Clark to have it open for my visit last year, and not only did he respond to my tweet (hi, Tony!) but it was up and running and ride it we did. And was subsequently underwhelmed as we rode it *after* Maverick, Millennium, Raptor, etc etc etc. Meanwhile, Possessed is one of my two favorite rides @ Dorney. Go figure.
PKI Jizzman Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 WT is the only coaster at CP that I've been able to get re-rides on virtually every time. Love that ride.
RaceBoarder Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 Put me in the camp of enjoying the ride. It's not a ride I'll try and ride 20+ times in a day, but I'll always seek out a ride or three on each visit. I'll encourage friends to try the ride because it's unique. I'd be disappointed if it was to go away.
coasterbill Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 I'd be disappointed if it was to go away. It's not going anywhere. This rumor is idiotic.
DoinItForTheFame Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 Nooo!! You guys are all missing it. Wicked Twister isn't going anywhere. With New Mean Streak opening in 2018, the park has to keep Wicked Twister so they will have 18 coasters in 2018. Because you know, 18 in 18... Gosh, don't you all know anything?? Parks really care about things like this.
RaceBoarder Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 I'd be disappointed if it was to go away. It's not going anywhere. This rumor is idiotic. 100% agreed that it's not going anywhere. I was just throwing it out there as a hypothetical. The loss of WT would be a loss for the park IMO, no matter how it happened.
prozach626 Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 Yes. Great point.... Hypothetically, it would also be a loss if a meteor struck the peninsula and took out everything, including Wicked Twister. The only way this would not be a loss is if the entire human race were rendered extinct.

RAWKIN_coaster38 Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 Question: What time does Winter Chill-Out usually end? Site says tours last up to 5 hours and the latest tour begins at 10:30 but I'm not sure if the 5 hours estimate includes the presentation and lunch.
KristenLeigh Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 Just wanted to let y'all know I applied for Cedar Point today. I didn't know if it was allowed to be posted in here but if anybody works there feel free to PM me details of what it's like to work there, where I should live, etc. Thanks!
