Most Disappointing Coaster!

Recommended Posts

Son of Beast...

Took a trip to PKI with friends after Graduation in June 2004...Normally, we would have went to CP or some other park, but we all wanted to ride SOB....The ride looked amazing, huge in scale, and just track everywhere...We get on, and the only part of the ride I could say was enjoyable would be the first drop and the loop...everything else was rough and it hurt. After ridding it twice, the layout became boring.

Oops, I forgot. "Whatever It Was Called" at the MGM theme park in Las Vegas- Lame

"Excalibur" at Valley Fair- (I did not visit it when "Ex" was the next big thing, and I am glad I didn't because it sure wasn't- I don't get that ride at all-though I think it could be reprofiled heavily and made fun).

  • 1 month later...

I have 2

The Chiller if you don't get the front you can't see anythnig on the spike, and the wait are outrageously long

Superman: Ultimate flight can anyone say biggest let down ever? Six flags said it was intense, and amazing. I say it's boring and horrible.

Where do I start?

At Busch Gardens, Alpengeist and Apollo's Chariot I thought were decent rides but nothing too spectacular because it felt as though they didn't really do anything. The first drops on both were great but after that they just meandered through the remainder of the course.

PKD - Volcano was kinda lame after the launch out of the volcano and Hypersonic again after the launch was just terrible.

PKI - Son of Beast I wish would just burn to the ground. Beast was nothing too spectacular either. In fact, except for Rebel Yell, all Paramount woodies should just be torn down.

There are plenty of others which I can gather from my recent road trip but it would be a very long list.

So kill me for saying this, but...

Raging Bull

This is because it had little airtime (which a good Hyper Twister should have, IMO) and... yeah. I'm not saying that it's a bad coaster - the overbanks are REALLY fun! However, there's almost no airtime. If they just got rid of the fin brakes on the second hill, the ride would be a LOT more fun!

My biggest let-downs would have to be:

Mantis- It looks so extravagant yet it wasnt all that great, I thought standing would be an awesome sensation, yet I couldnt even tell I was!

Patriot- I was looking forward to this one so much, yet it ended up being forceless (IMO and probably where I sat) and way too short).

Spinning Dragons- I was all hyped up to ride my first spinning coaster and it was a huge let-down, twas slow, and barely spun.

*However, dont get me wrong, all of these coasters were fun, just not AS fun as expected.*

Wild-Thing was one. I was kind of excited for the tunnel and the supposedly longest stretch of airtime on any coaster. I even rode in the front car the first time to see if it was true. I hardly felt any considerable airtime. Mamba which has a 184 drop and a more severe peak still produced more. Also Wild Thing was braked into oblivion which was a let down. It has potential.

While there is a wide-variety of coasters posted on here, I would agree with some of the repeat "offenders".

1. Hydra stands-out perhaps because of the "jo-jo roll" and the rest of the ride appeared promising, but did not deliver in most people's mind.

2. Patriot. I noticed this one posted as well, but perhaps the cost of the ride and the parks budget provided enough 'bang-for-the-buck' ride for the average guests to enjoy (similar to Hydra).

3. Silver Bullet-KBF. I noticed this ride mentioned often. I have yet to ride it and was curious on other opinions on why it was not great.?Apparently the semi-inversion before the cobra roll was the most-noted part of the ride in a positive sense. That 'inversion' looks similar to the kite-surfers doing tricks at Ho'okipa Maui http://www.hookipa.net/ or http://maui-bed-and-breakfast.com/hookipa.htm

^ Yes, apparently beemers have become "forceless." I evidently didn't receive this memo. I hope BGE plans on making their new one reach mach 5 with missle launchers, 25 inversions, and even smoother than the smoothest B&M ever created. Otherwise many enthusiasts will once again be let down.

Back to the topic at hand. Superman:ROS @ SFNE sort of let me down a bit. Don't get me wrong, it still stands firmly at #5 on my top ten steel list, but for some reason I was expecting slightly more out of it. A great ride nonetheless, but not quite worthy of its current lofty status on Mitch's poll, IMHO.

My biggest let downs are:

Son of Beast- There is really no excuse. At what point in time did it seem like a good idea to build a ride that sucks this bad!? Not only is there ZERO airtime but the entire thing is just plain painful. It literally gave me bruises (and not in the good "worth it" way such as airtime bruises)! It seems to me that they knew it was going to suck so they had to rely on the gimmick of it being a "looping wooden coaster" which is crap because the loop is steel. That's nothing new.

Superman: Ultimate Flight at SFGam- I'm so glad other people said this ride! It's short, it's boring, and the bottom of the pretzel loop causes you make sounds such as "HHHUUUUUUNNNNGGGHHHHH!!!!!!" After all the hype, watching contruction, and opening day I was severly dissapointed. If it's really a good ride you should never get off thinking "That was it?"

Revenge of the Mummy for me. Everybody said that the ride was great, but the launches were not very forceful, and the backward section was almost nothing. The theming was good though.

I would have to also say mean streak. I rode this before I was an "enthusiast". It looked really cool at night, but the ride was just terrible.

I have been disappointed several times as Im sure we all have.

First off.. Dragster without a doubt. We were expecting the thrill of a lifetime and got a 3 hours line with a "meh" sort of feeling. At least I got it out of the way so therefore I could enjoy Ka a little more the next year.

Voyage - probably the biggest disappointment ever to me. Nothing stood out in the ride to me, as Ive had to "defend" a lot recently.. a major set-back after hearing so many hail it as the best thing ever. Legend, a GTA top 10 woodie, also disappointed. In fact, Holiday World as a whole disappointed, but I shall digress since thats another topic.

Ride of Steel did let me down a bit, but it too is still top 10 stuff. The comfort was my biggest issue, I wish I could have ridden it with the pre-ejection restraints like I was fortunate to do at Darien Lake.

Millennium Force easily...

Rode it AAA weekend in 2000 before it even opened to the GP so I hadn't heard any reviews yet and I just expected it to blow me away. Especially after all the hype I had heard about the SFDL Superman. The airtime just isn't there.

I have grown to like it a little more over the years, but it could have been so much more.

Finally someone else who agrees with this. I know everyone has different opinions and all, but I really don't get why Legend is hyped up so much. I think this is the only time I've heard someone say Legend wasn't great.

I'm casting my vote for whatever Cedar Point gets next year judging by the impossible amounts of hype it currently has.

My real vote has to be Superman: The Escape, which was about as forceful as Bench: The Ride. I actually really liked X when I actually got to ride it last month, not the smoothest, but some interesting forces.

revenge of the mummy- orlando version short ride withsome cool elements, but it was overall mediocre

i know this isn't a roller coaster but mission space- they made it seem like it was the most intense thrill ride ever. all it was was just g-forces and a very weak negative-g attempt.
