CoasterJunkie
Hey everybody! This thread is simple! Rather than having a million little threads about everything that goes on at Alabama Adventure, this thread is designed to consolidate it all into one user-friendly thread. Feel free to use it to post updates, trip reports, questions, comments, and of course, general discussion. For pictures and videos of the park as well as past updates, see TPR's Park Index Page. Official Park Website Below are some links to past updates from the park, you may be interested in. Quote Wet 'n Wild, SeaWorld founder dies George Millay, founder of SeaWorld, the Wet 'n Wild water parks and Magic Mountain, died Feb. 7 while at home with his family in San Diego. Millay was 76, according to Tim O'Brien, author of a book on his life titled "The Wavemaker," who says Millay died from an infection he incurred while undergoing chemotherapy for lung cancer. Millay had battled several forms of cancer for years. Born in San Diego on July 4, 1929, Millay opened a successful seafood restaurant in Long Beach, Calif. Unsatisfied with the challenge, he created the concept for SeaWorld, which opened in San Diego in 1964. It took several years for the concept to catch on, but it eventually grew into a chain of several amusement parks, including the one in Orlando. Following a corporate upheaval, Millay left SeaWorld to create the original flagship Wet 'n Wild park in Orlando in 1977. In O'Brien's book, he call Millay "a man who turned water into gold -- a modern-day Poseidon with the creativity, stamina and smarts to conceive recreational opportunities centered on the sea and oceans." The World Waterpark Association recently recognized Millay with a Lifetime Achievement Award and cited him as the "Father of the Water Park Industry." Millay is survived by his wife, three grown sons and a grown daughter. Funeral services are set for Feb. 10 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in San Diego. Kinda interesting. JT3000
I remember reading an article on this guy once. He actually lost one of his eyes due to cancer and went around wearing an eye patch. RIP
ECZenith
Sad news, indeed, but Mr. O'Brien's words were very appropriate.
adz823
Just seen this on the SkyNews website: http://news.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30000-1242506,00.html Anyone else heard about this?
AndrewCT
Yeah, I heard about that one too. I'm glad to hear the trainer is okay though. Sometimes people don't understand that the whales have a tendency to play around, and sometimes don't realize what they are doing is harmful. SharkTums
Just saw the full story on the news this morning. I'm glad Sea World is playing it down and explaining that they are wild animals and this stuff does happen. Luckily the trainer only has a broken foot. They also mentioned that this was the second 'incident' in a month. Heck, if I was a whale trapped at Sea World San Diego I'd be fighting to! Bring me to Orlando!!! mike robinson
Maybe they just need some "Orca Tums" to settle them down.

JimmyBo
Here's a video on a news report on it. Click I don't care what people say, these trainers have huge balls to get into a tank with a big fat whale that has the name "Killer" in it
kidcoaster
They don't call them killer whales for nothing.

deano
This reminds me of the South Park episode where the boys send the Killer Whale to the moon. Glad to hear that the trainer is ok though.
obeygiant
Did anyone catch a full video of it? I know on the news they probably wouldn't want to play a full video of someone being attacked by a killer whale!
FlyingScooter
As someone said on another board: Trained not Tamed. yeah, i don't think I'd climb into a tank with an orca.
lancehart
Sorry if this is being posted in the wrong place... this is only my 2nd posting here. I didn't see another topic for this, but I wanted to let people know I've posted the layout of the SeaWorld California 2010 coaster on Screamscape.com www.screamscape.com/html/seaworld_california.htm Early rumors have suggested it's a Premier Rides project and it looks like it could share some design elements with Orlando's Revenge of the Mummy coaster from the look of it, including the backwards drop into darkness followed shortly by a LIM launch back to the 'surface'. Enjoy...
