cfc Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 ^That's nice--no need to repeat it. The park's Web site says their opening day as March 5.
FeelTheFORCE Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 He said "they aren't going to open for one weekend" when in fact they did last year. I assumed he missed the part of my post that indicated that. My point is, the fact that it is their off season didn't deter them from opening on the weekend of the 14th last year for a much smaller scale event. I did also look at their calender thinking they were a year-round park (at least on weekends), but was surprised when I saw they weren't.
Bolliger&Mabillard Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 ^I get what you're saying, and I can only think of two things.... 1) Last year was closer to the scheduled opening date, and perhaps the staff for the upcoming season were ready to go befor hand 2) The park anticipates the crowds will not be interested in going to the park, which in turn compliments the company's recent cost cutting measures.
chadster Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 I don't think that NBA gig was much of a money maker for them. I was kinda shocked when they announced, seemed like a waste of resources to open for four days, then down again for three weeks to me.

Very true points...maybe the NBA game was sort of like a test run for this year, which didn't go so well.
ernierocker Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 ^I'd say some or all of the reasons above answer your question. Let's get back on topic now, please.
bigboy Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 It snowed 12 inches on the Thursday before the All Star game and the park was closed all weekend except for Monday for cleanup and downed trees. The weather in North Texas at this time of year makes it awfully risky to rush through a short off season when the it may be a dud.
coasterlover420 Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Does anyone have any updates? I'm really excited to see how TG is coming along!
BrandonR Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 A video of a full-train test run was shown at the Winterfest ACE event. I think they mentioned it should be online soon. Not many updates beyond that. And to briefly skip back to another topic, similar to the weather when Six Flags opened for the All-Star game, the metroplex is currently experiencing some more horrid winter weather just in time for the Super Bowl. I'm sure the park is glad it stayed closed.
robeclay Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 It's snowing like crazy here in DFW today. The engineers probably won't be working on the Giant today. Blizzard for our standards. Stuck at work though, Equinox doesn't close ever. Hopefully someone can get down to the park to take pics of the Giant in the snow. Would look really pretty today. Everything is white.
coastercrutchfield Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 ^ If you do be careful, lots of ice EVERYWHERE!
BrandonR Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 And speak of the devil, here's the video of the full-train test run:
Funky Cold Medina Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Yeah I'd highly doubt they'd do anything cuz it is CRAZY (for Texas) outside. You know it's bad when it's actually about 10 degrees here.
Fooz Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Its hard to see whats going on speed-wise after the MCBR, (except for that tilted air hill, which is looking tasty), but the first half is looking like it has insane speed and insane air.
coasterlover420 Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 ^Definitely! And this is during testing in cold weather, I bet it's going to haul a$$ through the course. Maybe even better with a train full of acers
dragonskeep Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Looking more awesome with every new video. Can't wait to hear what people think of the ride experience and hope life takes me to Texas someday soon.
coasterbill Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Words cannot describe how insane this thing looks. That extreme overbank turn looks like something out of a Tim Burton film.
TXThrillster Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Woo Hoo ... new vid of a full train test run on Facebook ! It looks so fun.
samisthabomb Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 I'm trying to think of a hilarious response to that video, but I'm speechless. That looks amazing! I'll be up there June 10th to ride it. Can't wait
Hilltopper39 Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 eh, seemed a lot cooler with just the one little train
BaMiTsPaT Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 That is quite impressive to watch. The angle they shot the overbank from is really cool and makes it look insane. Can't wait to see it open later this year!
Guy T. Koepp Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Those vids make it look awesome! Can't wait to get over there to ride the New San Francisco Giant.
