chadster Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 ^ Keep on dreamin, they gave you guys your day....when the park was closed!
Guy T. Koepp Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 It will forever be the New San Francisco Giant to me as I pretty much shun everything Texas.
BrandonR Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 It will forever be the New San Francisco Giant to me as I pretty much shun everything Texas. Why yes, you've made that perfectly clear numerous times... Why you do such for a truly awesome state is still a mystery.
let1gre Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 I was not really a fan of the trains until I saw this video - now I think they look great. I'm also waiting for a certain Mr. Alvey to get out there to shoot us some very professional video of this monster!
Sidra Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 ACK! Attack of the watermark again! Still... loving the look of that coaster. Think I might need to find a way out to Texas.
coastercrutchfield Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 This may be a little off topic considering this is the TG thread, but I have gotten some views of La Vibora that the public usually never gets to see, so I thought that I would share it with you guys
coaster-crazy Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 It will forever be the New San Francisco Giant to me as I pretty much shun everything Texas. I am John McCain, and I approve this message. ~Nicholas

coastercrutchfield Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 Lets just call it the Texcisco Giant then...
cfc Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 ^ Keep on dreamin, they gave you guys your day....when the park was closed! I guess they just couldn't handle losing to a team from, of all places, San Francisco.
jynx242 Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 Sweeeeeeeeeett! That thing is gorgeous! Now I just gotta get out to Dallas this summer.
TexasGiant1982 Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 I've been a lurker around here for a long time, but all I have to say about the New Texas Giant is this...HOLY EFF! As SFOT is technically my home park (I grew up in the D-FW area), I think the new Giant's gonna shatter all expectations and hopefully win some major awards. Hopefully I can be able to make it to Arlington when TPR visits.
texcoaster Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 I think the new Giant's gonna shatter all expectations and hopefully win some major awards. Major awards? I'm sure that it will be in the running for some IAAPA accolades, and perhaps some Amusement Today "golden tickets", but the one "award" that the rest of the industry is going to be paying attention to is whether or not the increased attendance and reduced maintenance costs mean that SFOT is going to recover the $10M they spent on this project. The quicker this upgrade gets in the black, the more coasters we're likely to see on RMC's to-do list.
coasterbear30 Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 OMG! Can't wait to ride this thing on our Texas trip this year...I just got giddy like a little school girl!
sixflagsgadvguy1000 Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 This ride looks like it's going to be amazing. Those over banked turns look incredible.
BrandonR Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 This next picture should put some of those early structural concerns to rest: Link in case the photo doesn't work. Looks like they added some steel supports to the overbanked turns. So does this mean now it's a hybrid-hybrid?
DiSab Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 The world's first steel-wood-steel coaster! Sweet! Seriously, though, its good to see them taking the rehab seriously and not risking a SoB-type malfunction. I really want to get to Texas sometime to ride this monster.
Skycoastin Steve Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 So I guess I'll say it. If they ended up needing steel supports anyway, why didn't they just tear it completely down and build a steel coaster? They could have designed the layout the same way with steel supports. Now it's just starting to look silly, cheap, and almost even like a hack job. I'm sure the ride will still be fun, no matter how ridiculous steel supports holding up wooden supports holding up steel track looks.
Hayzle Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 One reason and one reason only. The name. Texas Giant.

KDcoasterMAN Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 might as well as call it the Texas Mutt. No wonder they tore out all those trees....
Skycoastin Steve Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 So can we just drop the name and call it Frankencoaster?
