Six Flags Great Adventure (SFGAdv) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

Any new attraction (in any park) that has a constant line and flow of riders is a good addition for the park. A 4D coaster will satisfy the park needs and drags people away from the other coasters.

Will you be able to marathon it? No. But that is a feature that keep customers returning to the park.

Exactly. I'm personally looking forward to it helping redistribute the crowds in the park. Boardwalk, Frontier Adventures, PDC, and Fantasy Forest have been nightmares.

I feel like I should be more excited than I am but since Six Flags doesn't seem to want to spend much money on new coasters I only get excited for their new additions when I hear rumors of an RMC. Maybe that's unfair of me but I got way more excited about Cedar Fair announcements.

Then again, they already announced Holiday in the Park this year and I'm so happy about that announcement that I don't care if they go 10 years without another significant coaster. I already got what I want.

I'd say it is fairly unlikely that the coaster is going to be something on the level of El Toro or Kingda Ka. Not saying that it is impossible by any means, but I cannot recall any investment Six Flags has made in the last 7-8 years that was more than $10-12 million besides X-Flight. Six Flags seems to have adopted a new strategy with their parks where they can theoretically add 2-3 new coasters in the chain (since you would include an RMC makeover as a new coaster) by keeping all of their coasters at a smaller budget. And just because the price tag is not near B&M or Intamin does not mean the ride won't be as good by any means. Case in point: S&S, Premier, and RMC.

As for my take on the speculation, I'd have to buy into the S&S freespin rumor. With ten inversions, this would seem to solve the complaint that BTR had at Fiesta Texas and they would hold the record for the most inversions in North America. Seems like a pretty marketable investment to me.

Having never ridden a 4D before, I have to ask, why the general hate directed towards them?

Ignorance. People don't understand that SF can not add $10 million dollar coaster with frequency and remain fiscally responsible.

Selfishness. People only think about what is best for them, not the majority of the customer base.

I am typically a glass-half-full type of person and honestly, whatever we get, it feels like it's going to be something big and while it may not be what I want (if it is a 4D) I know that any new ride will pull crowds from my old favorites which is a win-win at the end of the day.

Related (or not), this photo started floating around Facebook today.

I figured I'd post it here to keep this thread fired up.

Hmmm... not saying I'm buying that fake photoshopped FullThrottle animation with the Total Meyhem plastered on, but the logo was blue and so is the above track, but the track could just be for something else and have been photoshopped to look blue. Plus, the logo was oval and so is the Batman logo which is mounted onto B:TR's support beams. I'm not buying it but It could certainly work...

RMC does fabricate track for the free-spins so that's possible as well.

They're obviously RMCing El Toro and it will now take up Rolling Thunder's space as well....

I like the blue, but my question is, is this Ibox track or 4d track? I believe I remember Schilke saying in an interview that 4d track is a larger version of Ibox. So if the track is larger, we know it is definitely 4d.

Well, that is certainly freespin track. Theres no other type of coaster that could be. As long as it isn't super hero themed I guess I'm okay with it.

We know that it is freespin track because the other other elements that could make up are un-banked turns. Thats a whole lot of unbanked turns.

^Not to be that guy, but who knows if that's photoshopped Batman track. You could change the color and add the watermarks in less than a minute.

Hopefully it is real and is actually coming to Great Adventure as it looks like a really fun and unique ride.

If that's real, I'm digging the color a lot, to be honest. After only seeing the black/yellow of the SFFT version, I could see this thing looking pretty cool if its the bigger version and dark colors like this blue with black or silver supports.

SFGAdv hasn't added a new $10 million dollar coaster in almost ten years. If another one were added next year, that could not in any universe be described as "frequent". And if you're talking about Six Flags as an entire chain, just look at what Cedar Fair has been adding the past decade then describe to me how that statement makes any sense. Also, how is wanting a ride more exciting than a free spin wanting what's best for me and not the majority of the customer base? I think it's a fair assumption that the majority of the costumer base likes roller coasters.

SFGAdv is a dirty, poorly-run park with virtually no charm or atmosphere, with theming that is built and then largely left to rot. The only thing it's ever had over other amusement parks in this part of the country is awesome roller coasters. It's not unreasonable to want them to continue delivering in the one and only aspect in which they've ever excelled.

The GP will eat up an S&S free-spin. Do I personally like them? Meh. But the GP will eat it up. CF is in a better financial state than SF is so they can't be adding $25mil giga coasters and the like quite yet.

I do however, agree with this.

There are always some users that think that anyone who wants a new coaster for their home park are selfish and completely ignorant to the way the industry works. They may have a point in some cases, but not here. Our 'newest' major coaster is from the 90s.

Lets be real, GADV has filled its flat rides void and is ready for a new major coaster. An S&S freespin is a bit underwhelming for a 10 year wait. To say that Six Flags will never unstall another coaster over $10m is simply incorrect.

Also weigh in that Gadv fans have been waiting for a coaster running along the lake likely since the park opened. To have the oppertunity 'wasted' on a freespin (that does not interact with the enviornment at all) is a kick in the nuts.

They are doing what is best for the business and spending $20mil+ on a coaster is not a smart move right now. I don't fault them for that. Would I personally like to see a 450ft giga, triple-launch Aqua Trax?!? You bet your ass I would, however I understand that's not a smart move for their business.
