Six Flags Fiesta Texas (SFFT) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

Poltergeist shuts down on Monday for a 2 months refurb (reopen on Labor Day weekend from what I've heard) and during that time they are going to repaint the ride, and add a theme, that it's never really had.

Mr. Siebert has been teasing that "the new owner" is going to be doing some rennovations (the repainting, and the updated queue), and offering pics of the New Owner about to move in.

If you don't follow him on social media, you're missing some great teaser stuff (not just on Polty, but on the new ride for 2022 -  there's a big announcement going to be made on Wed, July 28 in regards to the parks 30th anniversary, and what's to come next year).

Something tells me that if it is in fact the new Double Heart Zamperla model coming to SFFT in 2022, they will opt for the smaller 50M version. I would hope for the larger 70M version, but no ride in San Antonio has ever surpassed 180FT.

Isn't there a 200FT height limit due to the air force base nearby?

Edit: Nevermind, Scream is 205FT.

Axis is unique but have you seen the prototype? Sometimes the track flips but the riders dont. Not sure the point of that.  Just seems like S&S being extra, but maybe getting the feeling of regular coaster then inverted coaster then wing coaster would be alright. If a coaster is gonna spin I think facing the car any way you like and locking it there would be awesome. One ride forward. Ride it again facing backwards. Ride again facing sideways. That would be fun.

The axis coaster just seems like a slightly updated version of their other model that didn't fare well.  Think they have one of those trains in front of their offices.  Not sure I completely understand it but I'm assuming they can make the car flip, etc like the first part of the test track.  It just seems kind of like riding a gimble and you'd float around in relatively the same position.  Almost like the horizontal locked videos that show up now days.

Could be fun, though.  Love to try it somewhere, some day.

  • 2 weeks later...

Jeffrey Siebert just posted an updated pic of Poltergeist with it's new paint job almost finished!

LOVING the new colors, and can't wait to see what train wrap they chose to go with.

Looks amazing!

Come to think of it... that coaster must be a pain in the a$$ to paint! Having to navigate all those crazy supports and track.

Eh, that's nothing some modified rollerblades and a back-mounted paint sprayer can't fix!

^ such a great coaster. . .

LOL. . and I was just watching some folks lose their minds over a "Bill of Lading" shipment from B&M to SFFT that got leaked.

only to have Jeffrey Siebert pop into the thread and say:  Sorry folks, it's needed replacement parts to have on hand for Superman, NOT the new 2022 ride.

Great video!

I've officially conquered all the Floorless coasters in the country and Superman still reigns supreme in my opinion. The interaction with the cliff, glossy smooth ride, and unique layout puts it above the rest for me. I believe it is also the tallest and fastest one.

Alright everybody! Last day before the big reveal of the 2022 attraction! Anybody want to make any last guesses on what the ride will be??

My final prediction is a Zamperla Double Heart coaster, just based on everything before and then the teaser from the other day of the blimp in Italy "in search to find its creator."

Extreme Disk-O.  Basically Intamin's Ultra Surf model, but from Zamperla.

if they didn't already have a Disc-O (Hurricane Force 5, that I just DON'T see leaving the boardwalk), maybe. . . .   but the park won't put in two similar rides (even if one of them is "extreme")

^ I was making a joke but feel free to take all my posts seriously.  It'll make for some hilarious misconceptions.

I've actually seen similar guesses tho. . . . like the Aquasplash moving from SFOT to SFFT (and yes, they were serious. . LOL).

Hah! Sounds like they don't want expectations to be too high.

Based on the teaser pic that Mr. Siebert posted to Thrill Seekers United group?

I'd say odds are it's the Double-heart coaster.

we'll find out tomorrow tho. . formal announcement is tomorrow afternoon!

that middle sign certainly looks like a "layout" sign

watching the live stream now. . . he's talking about Frightfest stuff (not to the new ride). . but confirmed new Logo for Poltergeist, and that the queue will now have an indoor and AIR-CONDITIONED element.

the theming of the stage is VERY steam-punk circus. . we shall see when they announce!

Forgot to come back and post this:

Six Flags Fiesta Texas has sent us a press release announcing their new B&M Dive Coaster, Doctor Diabolical's Cliffhanger!

1751162158_SFFTDrDiabolicalsCliffhangerLogo.thumb.jpg.0e7d347598abc96f73ee3f823189a1b9.jpg

Six Flags Fiesta Texas,  The Thrill Capital of South Texas, today unveiled plans to debut the world’s steepest dive roller coaster—Dr. Diabolical’s Cliffhanger. This exhilarating new dive coaster features a cliffhanger hold, which suspends riders as they face straight down a 95-degree, beyond-vertical drop, then releases them moments later into a terrifying 150-foot dive.

“Six Flags Fiesta Texas continues to push the limits of thrill and innovation as we prepare to introduce the world’s steepest dive coaster during our 30th anniversary season,” said Park President Jeffrey Siebert. “Dr. Diabolical’s Cliffhanger joins an already stellar lineup of record-breaking roller coasters, rides, and attractions. With eight intense elements including dramatic inversions and extreme airtime, it will quickly become a fan favorite,” added Siebert.

As guests enter the ride queue, they will be immersed in the story of Dr. Diabolical and her evil quest to create menacing creatures to frighten the world. To give her creations life, Dr. Diabolical constructed a machine to capture the essence of human adrenaline and fear. Dr. Diabolical’s Cliffhanger features three 21-passenger trains that keep the adrenaline flowing as riders reach a height of 15 stories, then pause face-first before diving at 60 mph and flying through a variety of high-thrill experiences.

Key features of Dr. Diabolical’s Cliffhanger include:

  • Three sleek trains with three rows of passengers, seated seven across;
  • 2,501 feet of soaring track;
  • Thrilling anticipation while the ride vehicle pauses in a face-first cliffhanger hold before plummeting 150 feet;
  • Spectacular, beyond-vertical, 95-degree first drop;
  • A second 75-foot, near-vertical drop;
  • An Immelmann inversion, during which riders enter a half-loop, followed by a half twist, then exit the element traveling in the opposite direction making a 180-degree turn;
  • Four intense elements, including an extreme airtime hill, wild-banked turn, high-speed spiral, and 270-degree zero-g roll;
  • Speeds of up to 60 mph;
  • Immersive steampunk theming that tells the story of Dr. Diabolical’s plot to harvest fear; and
  • Dr. Diabolical’s Cliffhanger is a custom-designed roller coaster created by Bolliger & Mabillard.

Bert is at Six Flags Fiesta Texas today sharing details from the announcement as they are released:

Will update in a moment. . but it's a B&M dive coaster!   "Doctor Diabolical's Cliffhanger"

Special built with tons of custom elements - and he referred to it as a record breaker.
and also specifically mentioned B&M is doing custom trains (I believe he said 7 across) for this ride.

He showed an animated video. . which I'm sure will be online very quickly, if not officially from TPR. . .but here are some stills from the presentation.

and the host character is "Doctor Diabolical" who wants to harness your terror for her elixir.
