blakelemay23 Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 The park has publicly stated nostalgia as being the reason for the switch. However, there is now an Ohio law that requires parks to follow all manufacturer's recommendations for ride operations. PTC does not recommend that their trains run backwards. Thank you for confirming that
anonymouscactus Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 I'll try to get in my question before the big announcement My first time going to haunt this year. If I go Saturday when the hours are 11-1am is the fast lane good on the rides for all 14 hours of the day? Or does the fright lane include rides too and only good for the evening time period? Also would all day dining be good for all 14 hours? I guess I don't fully understand the transition to haunt because it sounds like it's extra charge (though I have a platinum pass, which states gets in free) based on what I've read? Whereas cedar point is just a regular day with haunts added in. Whereas Canada's wonderland closes briefly and reopens and its a hard ticket event. I'm just confused. Help me out
CDawg Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Racer is an icon for the park It is an icon, but Carowinds' Thunder Road was an icon and was demolished...
Coasterschool Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 I'm not big on the haunt thing but, I think fast pass should be good for rides all night. Fright lane is good for the haunted attractions only. I could be wrong.
JonnyRCT3 Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Racer is an icon for the park It is an icon, but Carowinds' Thunder Road was an icon and was demolished... Thunder Road was based on Rebel Yell, which is based on the Racer. It's safe to say that Racer has more significance to the park, and the industry than a mere clone built years afterwards.
drummermattk Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 I honestly think carowinds only removed it because they needed more room to expand there waterpark.
JonnyRCT3 Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 ^My thoughts exactly. The "leaked" plans show a waterpark expansion & upgrade, some of which taking place on TR's footprint. This should allow for a more expansive waterpark in the future as well. Side note: A lot of people on the Carowinds thread are bashing the removal of TR for the expansion. Even though the park is moving forward with the accelerated growth plan, the removal of an outdated coaster for the re-invention of an outdated waterpark isn't appreciated at all there. Spoiled enthusiasts... /rant
Intimidator305 Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Spoiled enthusiasts... /rant The removal of Thunder Road pissed a lot more people off than just enthusiasts. Even though the ride never had a line, if you read the park's Facebook page, you can see tons and tons of people don't care for the upcoming water park and would rather have Thunder Road. In my opinion Thunder Road and the water park were both awful, so you might as well make one of them good. Converting and expanding the water park is a better long-term investment as their water park is easily always the most crowded area of the park throughout the summer. On the topic of Kings Island, I wouldn't take any of these 'images' too seriously. Just a way too fool around with fans hours before the announcement and get the conversations stirring.
Password121 Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 I'd bet this has nothing major to do with Racer. All the time parks use filler images for social media of recognizable park icons. Racer is a symbol of progress and they're talking about an attraction announcement date. It makes sense and it's easy for them to create buzz.
Vonni Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 I really wish CF would go with Sally instead of Triotech
Ed Farmer Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Spoiled enthusiasts... /rant The removal of Thunder Road pissed a lot more people off than just enthusiasts. Even though the ride never had a line, if you read the park's Facebook page, you can see tons and tons of people don't care for the upcoming water park and would rather have Thunder Road. . Not saying that it did or didn't piss some people off (it probably did), just pointing out that often times, people aren't exactly reasonable when it comes to posting in comment sections.
coasterbill Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Who's thirsty this morning? Get your drinks ready. Anyway... look at this speculation. I keep hearing about nostalgia and how Cedar Fair is out looking for nostalgic rides, then I hear about the Racer Midway but nobody seems to know exactly what's coming. Well behold! I have the perfect plan! It has nostalgia! It has the Racer Midway! It has Family Fun for everyone! Come on Kings Island, make it happen! DISCLAIMER: THIS HAS A 0% CHANCE OF HAPPENING. BUT YOU'RE WELCOME FOR THE GREAT IDEA KINGS ISLAND... YOU'RE WELCOME. ALSO, THEY WOULD GET NO R.O.I. ON THIS... NONE, LOL
drummermattk Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Still putting money on that waterpark expansion.
grsupercity Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 There twitter page kept showing pics of the racer. I hope they dont ruin it
coasterkid124 Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Whatever it is, I want to be surprised. A water park expansion of some sorts is expected, but these pictures of Racer are intriguing.
The Great Zo Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 A source to follow for today's announcement: a reporter from the Cincinnati Enquirer who will be at the park.
DaMarkSta Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 I'm hoping for the dark ride still! Could be a long shot but I think it would be a great addition.
thepoint4life23 Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 I find it strange that they don't even have any thing on the website about an announcement
coasterkyle Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Maybe a part of this announcement will be a "comprehensive restoration" on Racer? Like what Knotts is doing
Brassinthegrass Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Don't really feel like it needs a restoration...
drummermattk Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Still betting on the waterpark expansion. Even after this tweet.....
Paradox Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Will they be livestreaming it or will it just be posted on their twitter? My bet is on a Triotech dark ride.
DirkFunk Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 I'm told people entering the park were given flyers indicating the presentation would happen in the water park. So, I think that answers the questions here. I'm gonna hope for a water coaster.
coasterbill Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 If it is a dark ride it's also possible that if it's a dark ride it will tie into the Racer and the Coney Mall / Americana style theme park theme (which would make sense since the other dark rides are themed to the park / location they're in and this one would require you to walk under the Racer and is located within the rides turnaround).
drummermattk Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Slide complex. From what I've been told. Apparently the construction has already started. Trust me my sources are good and you will all be find in out after the announcement.
