^I didn't even realize that might not be a thing. I guess the announcement (or however we found out about it) was pretty unofficial/low-key, though. I'd also like to hear an updated status.

Wow, doing some digging, to my surprise the coaster was 'discovered' over a year ago, and there was indeed no official announcement. Do we think it was cancelled, or is it just taking its sweet time to appear?

To celebrate being finally done with my radiation treatments, my partner decided we needed a long weekend trip to have some fun. Just booked a trip to Vegas nonstop from Tampa to Vegas for 35 bucks on Frontier the first week of May. ( 5 hours on a plane, ugh) Got stupid cheap rooms at, gulp, Circus Circus. ($22) I know , I know, we will wear full body condoms to get into bed. We also got BOGO on AdventureDome all day passes. SO this trip is going to be a cheapy one, just finally, a get away. We're not gamblers, (then why in the heck go? Never been, that's why) So we are looking for any advice on things to do or not to bother with. Most likely wont bother with the torture device at NY,NY at 15 bucks a pop unless we find a deal. The cheaper the better. Thanks for any advice.

Vegas has lots of great entertainment options and there are many ways to save on tickets. There are half-price ticket booths similar to TKTS in NYC that sell discounted tickets the day of the show. There are also deals listed on Travelzoo that you can purchase prior to coming to Vegas. If you've never been to Vegas, I'd recommend checking out one of the Cirque Du Soleil shows as they are all pretty amazing. There are also a lot of food and entertainment deals on Groupon, so that's worth a look as well. If you want a really nice dinner, Circus Circus has one of the better steakhouses in town. I know that seems weird, but it is actually very good and always ranks high on the Best of Las Vegas voting.

be advised, Circus Circus is going to charge you resort fee. . so that cheapie room, is gonna end up being more than you expect.

when you check in, ask for the updated tower over the main casino.. they upgraded those rooms a few years back, and although it won't help with the quality of the crowd staying there (we were surrounded by babies on all sides), the updated rooms are rather nice.

when you check in, CC front desk will give you a coupon book (they were still doing so as of our last visit), and included in that book, is a free bottle of wine at the steakhouse there.

if you are a meat eater at all? the Steakhouse at Circus Circus is among the best in town, and our favorite. Even when we're not staying there (and we hardly ever do), we always make a trip there for the Steakhouse. it's a world unto itself, and nothing like the casino / hotel you have to walk thru to get to it. Very classy place with excellent food.

also while at Circus Circus, check out the free circus acts (one level up over the casino). . yeah, there will be a lot of children there, but it's awesome free entertainment that (I think) runs once an hour.

Congrats on finishing your treatments! What a great reason to celebrate!

We flew 5 hours to Vegas on Frontier last year. You'll be fine... just wear a sweatshirt/hoodie on the plane and sit on it because those seats really start to suck by hour 3-4 otherwise (and I mean... we're in our 20's, or at least we were when we did this last year) .

Great call on Frontier. Their prices from the East coast to Vegas are unreal. Be careful of those personal item size restrictions but for a weekend trip you shouldn't have a problem.

I do have a bit of bad news (you may already know this)... your hotel is not $22 a night. Your hotel is $58.28 per night. Sorry about that but welcome to Las Vegas.

Anyway, I do have some tips since you're looking to do things on the cheap.

Renting a car? Great. Can I recommend the Grand Canyon? Hoover dam maybe?

Not renting a car? You don't really need one if you're not leaving Vegas but watch the airport scam because it happens 99% of the time. The best thing to do is to take an Uber not a cab. If you do take a cab be prepared to tell the driver exactly how you want to be taken to Circus Circus. Don't get tunneled and don't let them take you up the strip unless you want to do that for the experience. This is a huge problem in Vegas. Almost every cab will try to long haul you unless you specifically tell them to take Swenson / Paradise. It's illegal. They don't care. If this happens both ways you can get screwed out of like 40 bucks plus (and it WILL if you let it happen).

Another thing I learned about Vegas is that you should pretty much never pay the advertised price for anything. There's a HUGE discount for almost every single Vegas attraction online as well as some great combo tickets. Look into those and see what works best for you. If you want to do something that you don't have a discount plan for just whip out your phone when you walk up to it and hop on Google. 99% of the time there's a great deal and they offer mobile ticketing. The High Roller immediately comes to mind but this works for basically everything on the strip.

echoing your congrats on the treatments (meant to say that to him as well!).

and LOL on the room cost. . . I flagged that for him too

ETA: we never rent a car in Vegas. To get from Airport to Hotel (and back), we do the shuttle van, that you can purchase tix for (several options out by curbside near baggage claim). .if you book drop/return, it can be less than $40, and it's a locked rate.. no matter how they take you (often up the strip to stop at multiple hotels). . but they will drop you off right at front desk (Circus Circus front desk is way at the back of the complex, so a long haul if you go in the front doors). and pick you up from there.

so we prefer the shuttle..we just buy the tickets, then don't worry (you call them day before your flight to confirm the pickup the next day).

Congrats! You probably already know about the Bellagio fountains and conservatory, but I still think those are the best free things to see here. There's also Fremont Street Experience at night.

Going to be there this weekend as will. Daughter's Sweet 16. We're doing Adventuredome early Sat, Ethel M, Chris Angel and Neon Museum with it's new little show late night SAT night,Hot Air Balloon ride in the wee Sun Morning, and Cirque's KA that night We'll do NYNY's coaster just cause. Hope to squeeze in the the Link and Stratosphere. We thought about doing Cowabunga Bay but with it being opening weekend thought it would be too crowded with temps in the upper 80s. Apparently Buffalo Bill's coaster is down for the count. We rented a convertible so that was going to be a side road trip. Will drive out to Hoover before we fly out Monday afternoon.

+1 - The Fountains At Bellagio are by far one of my favorite things in Vegas. I could literally sit there and watch the entire show every time it is on! The Fremont Street Experience at night is pretty neat too!!

I know you are wanting to keep the trip budget friendly, but if you can by any chance swing the rides at the top of the Stratosphere you'll be glad you did!! Maybe not all of them, but at least check out X-Scream!! Front row is where it is at. You won't regret it!! Unless you sh!t yourself like I almost did!! Then you might regret it! X-Scream is probably the most terrifying ride I have ever been on! It's worth the hefty up-charge!

Hope this helps a little!! -- No doubt in my mind you guys are going to have a great time! Can't wait to hear about the trip once you get back!

Well it looks like Buffalo Bill's has made all ride indefinitely closed according to their website (https://www.primmvalleyresorts.com/Amenities.aspx?info=attractions). Desperado has been 'SBNO' since December 2017.

Also, for those that follow Vegas development, the Lucky Dragon Resort, which opened in 2016, has also closed.

Okay, a mini trip report. And , how to do Vegas on the cheap. ^ We bought our 2 for 1 passes for Adventure Dome on E Bay. 32 bucks for 2 people, amazing. Well worth it. Stayed at Circus Circus in an upgraded room in the on the 18th floor of the Sky tower for 17 bucks a night. Our room had brand new carpet/bed linens and a newly redone bathroom There is a "resort fee" of $32, but it includes the water slides, which are a blast ! We got our money's worth and then some at the Dome. Got 5 rides on each coaster, 3 on Chaos, 2 on Disco, dodgems , all 3 silly simulator rides, and 1, I will never ever ever ever do again ride on Inverter. Staying at Circus Circus, an older resort is close to a lot of fun stuff. Got off the plane and used the bus from the airport to CC. Bus #108, leaves every 15 minutes for 2 bucks. Grant, you have to walk 2 blocks to CC from the stop. Big whoop. We used the bus system the entire time we were there and it was dirt cheap. Just do some research. So nice to hop on and off anywhere you want to go, including back to the airport. Very good trans system and many routes are 24 hours. Don't miss the Fremont Experience, soo cool. Also did the coaster at NY NY. The worst coaster in the world! I should have known when we got free tickets from a couple that gave them to us. They had extra tics and were giving them away as they hated it that much. The only redeeming quality was that at night the trains have working headlights, tail lights and even directional lights. It is so bad, but a must do to find out why it is the worst coaster in the world. Now, onto the food. Vegas aint cheap anymore for food with all the celebrity chefs, but there are still bargains to be found. At Circus Circus there is Vince Neil. Had no idea who he was, Oh, okay, Motley creu. But go for the half price happy hour food and drink. Don't get the margaritas, yuck. I sent it back and ordered a rum and coke instead and it was only 5.75 at 2 for 1. Cheaper than the Marg. Ordered the Quesadilla and and OMG ! Half price and it was enough for 2. A bowl of beans,a bowl of rice and the biggest QuessaD i have ever seen. So darn good and filling for 2. Next up, Go to Freemont Station for 1.99 shrimp cocktails (epic) and $1.99 margaritas. On the other end of the strip at Hooters, they have $1 margaritas. Another caveat is, do not buy In n Out burgers on the strip. They will run you near 6 bucks. Just take a walk or bus 1 block behind New York New York to a huge In and Out burger where they are normal priced at 2.59. The best deal however is at the Hard Rock Casino at Mr Lucky's. It is not listed on the menu so you have to ask for it. It is the 777 special! It costs 7.77 and is heaven. An 8 oz strip steak, 3 giant skewered shrimp, potatoes, veggies and salad. Best deal anywhere and so fricken good. now some pics.

When I drove past Buffalo Bill’s over the weekend, Turbo Drop has been dismantled. Wonder what happened to it or if it was scrapped. That version was the prototype, sad to see it gone as it was one of the most forceful!!

I rode Desperado last Labor Day weekend. I think they shut it down in January. Rumor has it that they ran it over Memorial Day weekend, but didn't update the site. They seem to be following the Six Flags way of communicating.
