I voted Gyro drop because when you are rotating to the top, it just builds anticipation when you see the whole park before you get to the top. Like Acrophobia at SFoG. You see the whole park plus the skyline of Atlanta a few times before the acent to the top has ended.

I had heard some where that Acrophobia doesn't rotate or tilt any more. Is this still true or was it just a rummor?

I can't really decide between:

Normal 2nd Gen and Standup Tilting Floorless and Standup Tilting With Floor

Normal is pretty much my favorite because I really like it, and it's really rerideable.

Standup Tilting Floorless is still one of the few rides that freaks me out to the point of screaming EVERY time I ride it.

Standup Tilting WITH Floor is more rerideable than Floorless, but not quite as scary.

I know, I'm odd!

i've gotta choose giant drop since i really love that massive tower

and it does give lots of float sensations for a few second!! it's more

than you could ever know the great pops in the air. 400 feet drop is

going to make me fly up against the huge restraint and feel like i'm

gonna pop out of the seat during its DROP TIME taking!

You left out Intamins spaceshot style ride. I think they call it "Bungee Tower".

Anyways I have been on...

Gyro Drop (PKD and PKI)

Giant Drop (PC,SFA,SFGAm,SFKK,DMP)

Floorless Stand up Giant drop (DMP)

Standup Tilting WITH Floor (DMP)

Stand up Giant Drop - Isnt this the same as the the last 2? unless you ment Stand Up - Gyro.... (I have seen SFOGs.. but it was closed)

1st Generation (CP,GL,SFGAdv,SFOG)

I think my fav one would e SFGAms giant drop... But Apocalypse comes in second with the floorless standup side. and third would be the first gens.

This is pretty difficult. I love the gyro drops because of their comfort and they are still considerably scary.

As Elissa said though, Stand-up floorless drops still continue to scare the ever loving crap out of me, but they aren't very comfortable. I guess I'll go with stand-up floorless though. The experience is just unreal.

I only went on one Intamin Drop Tower (Drop Zone @ Great America), though I know about all the types of Intamin Drop Towers and I like the Giant Drop because it has a stationary view and is simple. When I go on a drop tower, I don't like my seat moving or having to stand up on it. Plus, if one of the cars on a Giant Drop breaks down, they can just shut down that car and leave the rest of the cars to still operate.

Second Gen/Giant Drops- and it's not even close. For whatever reason the GyroDrops don't produce that insane plummet sensation the Giant Drops do. The drop feels more gradual/tame. I assume this has something to do with individual cars v. one vehicle.

2nd gen standup floorless tilting got my vote. After riding Hurakan Condor (PortAventura) and Fritt Fall Tilt (Gröna Lund) I fell in love! It's just so insane riding with your arms up as there is next to nothing your body touches on the way down. It really feels like you're falling free!

Definitely the 2nd generation standard Giant Drop towers with the individual 4 person ride vehicles. Those seem like they high a much better sensation of free fall compared to the gyro drop with it's gigantic 40 seat ring (from a physics perspective I believe it has to do with the moment of inertia for the smaller vehicle being much smaller than the MOI of the larger rings. While both "objects" fall at the same rate (gravity) the smaller vehicle accelerates up to the maximum falling speed much quicker than the larger ring of seats).

The floor less stand-ups like Acrophobia are a close second because they are insanely scary, but they do hurt my nuts and are not as re-ride able.

This is definately true. I visited Gröna Lund and Liseberg this spring so I got to try both types. Gröna Lund has a 260 ft second generation drop tower called Fritt Fall, with two normal cars and one floorless, standup, tilting car. I actually prefer the normal sitdown version. On the tilting side you can see the track all the way down, which makes the drop feel less scary IMO as you can see where you are going. On the sitdown version you are just looking straight ahead and you can not see any part of the tower structure, which to me increases the free-fall feeling.

Im really struggling to decide which I prefer, Fritt Fall or the 300ft Atmosfear gyrodrop at Liseberg. Atmosfear has an amazing view as its located on the top of a hill, and the drop seems to last forever, but it definately lacks the force that Fritt Fall has. If I have to make a decision..... I would put them both in my backyard.

Can I vote for none? (Intamin or any drop tower) LoL

The one that freaked me out the most was Fritt Fall (floorless stand up tilting car) at Grona Lund. Let's face it, that car doesn't exactly tilt gracefully up there. What added to the terror was Elissa telling me that I was going to crap my pants just as it started going up. I don't really remember much after that.

I love Acrophobia to death, but King's Islands Drop Tower blew me away on one windy morning (no pun intended ). Gyro Drop, with stand-up floorless a close second. After, a simple giant drop (can't wait to try one above 400+ ft.).
