Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

P. 2037: Siren’s Curse tilt coaster announced for 2025!

Recommended Posts

I have a pretty good hunch that the new coaster will NOT be a launch coaster. Considering their last 2 were launch (TTD, WT).

I still like the dueling flyers idea or how about a deuling-floorless vs. flyer? Is it possible? That way you get the best of both worlds and it would definitly be a people mover. I think that would be mighty sweet.

That fact that there are footers poured already could very well hint towards how big it might be.

Probably either height wise, or magnitued wise. What I mean is that if they're building something draster sized, or if they're building a dueling coaster that an early start would be required.

Dragster's tower footers were poured during the Wicked Twister construction the year before afterall.

But we'll find out what it is in like 9 months or so. Knowing Cedar Point there probably won't be all that much to know for awhile.

It's a great strategy to build a ride in season. People will see the construction equipment and the footers on the way to Skyhawk and know they'll have to come back next year.

Once all the footers are poured we'll have a much better idea of the size of this thing.

and I don't think its logical to try to break height.

I definitely agree. Why would Cedar Point try to build another height rceord breaker when TTD was one of their worst investments ever? Im really thinking that this is going to be something way out of the box. I think whoever is saying a dueling, longest, or dive coaster is probably right. Also you have to remember that 2007 is supposed to be HUGE. Its the CEO's (correct me if Im wrong) last year in 2007, and I have heard from other places that CP will go for TWO coasters. So that is why I say: Dueling!

^ I don't really buy the 500 footer rumour.

Why? lots of coasters have 500 footers, or even more.

Nice one.

I wouldn't really put much stock into CP having to go biggest/longest/fastest/etc.

Only us die hards would actually know if it was true or not.

The CP hype machine can hype anything into the biggest thing around. Even a modest coaster at CP will be front page news.

I do think it's going to be something big though.

  • 2 weeks later...
My money is on the worlds first kiddie launched coaster!

I saw quite a few kids launched out of the Wile E Coyote (now Goliath Jr.) coaster when I used to work at SFMM - they'd fly out at the last turn into the station and land in the bushes.

Are you ferreal or joking?.....

Anyway, I don't really see them getting a dueling flyer.... I don't know why it just doesn't seem like something I could see them getting.

The ride's announcement is scheduled for July 24.

Jeff (Not saying anything else!)

Quoted in case of future edits.

Why would they announce anything during the middle of the season? They haven't done that any time recently. Heck, Top Thrill Dragster was nearly built before they announced it!

Do you really think they can break the length record?

Really long coasters take incredible amounts of real estate, something CP doesn't have a lot of. I've been on 8 of the top ten longest coasters (I'm missing California Screaming and Ultimate) and have seen first hand just how big Steel Dragon is in person. If CP was to do this, the WWL site is only the beginning of where construction would take place. Winter construction for a coaster of that magnitude could cover a LOT of the rest of the park!

Now, I think what CP might be up to is to break the number of coasters in a park record. Even a small twin coaster would (counting Gemini as two) bring them to 18, one more than 6FMM's 17 (counting Tatsu and SBNO Flashback). This certainly fits in with the long rumored dueling flyers, and tops MM's Tatsu a mere year later.

I'm no CF fan, but if the dueling flyers is in fact what they are prepping for, I think it's a lot better idea than breaking the 500 foot height line with another cranky and temperamental ride.

That's my $0.02, what do YOU think?

Well, if what Jeff was quoted as saying is true .... we'll all know on July 24th, hmm?

(EDIT: Trivia of note. Post #1986 Vancouver's 100th Birthday Year, AND the year of EXPO 86, which introduced The Scream Machine - now at SFStLouis as Ninja - to the general public. A great six months that year... Happy 20th Birthday, EXPO!)

Yeah that would be awsome, they have made too many unreliable and shoddy investments and CF are clearly back into B&M's in a big way. Duelling Flyers are a great idea and someone has to do it soon!

I understand peoples view on TTD, the Intamin launch coasters are good but IMHO there is just too much to go wrong with this type of coaster (ie I am including Deja Vu). When I have been to ride Rita in England the crew seem much more stressed than on any 'normal' coaster.

Don't get me wrong I'm gong to ride KK at SFGAdv soon and can't wait, but these are risky rides. A flyer like Tatsu just isn't.

Well, from looking at pictures that a friend of mine obtained by err...questionable methods...I can say that right now there isn't really much to see, save a few footers (maybe a dozen maximum) and LOTS of dirt piles.

Yeah, I know...YAY DIRT PILE PICS!

I might be heading up there on May 21st, I'll post a photo TR if I do.
