kickflipbacktail Posted April 23, 2016 Posted April 23, 2016 What other videos did you say you had of it? It really looks amazing!! On my instagram you can see that launch video as well as the final stretch of the ride. Thats really all you can film from the park. While riding Thunderhead I was able to turn around and see it crest the wave turn. The ride is really impressive. I'm on my way out of the park now. They're currently doing more rollback testing. I MIGHT drop in for a few hours tomorrow morning before I leave Pidgeon Forge. However me and the misses have already discussed it. We're gonna schedule a 10 person 4 day cabin trip here when Lightning Rod is open. If for some reason our friends drop out we will just do a 4 day weekend. 2 days at Kentucky Kingdom for Storm Chaser and 2 days here for Lightning Rod!
Dollywoodlover20 Posted April 23, 2016 Posted April 23, 2016 I feel like in the video they were running it at a lower speed, because it just seemed to cruise up the hill really until it got past the LSM's then it kicked into gear. At least that's what I can note from my phone.

KBrylczyk Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 [youtu_be] [/youtu_be]Launch [youtu_be] [/youtu_be]Non inverting half loop Embedded that for ya.
kickflipbacktail Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 Hahah sorry about that. Posting from my phone. Too much of a hassle to embed from here. Thank you!
Superbatboy Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 Launch Non inverting half loop Wow that launch is POWERFUL! And the ride hits the brakes with a lot of pace left!! Can't wait to have me bum on it!
Nrthwnd Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 That lift hill is crazy insane I love it! It looks like a Roller Coaster Tycoon lift hill gone wrong... ...with that firey crash somewhere up there.
Dollywoodlover20 Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 I zoomed in and really watched the train from the bottom, those LSM's grab the train and drag it up the hill (I love that) then if you look it gives no mercy when going into the false drop. Full speed, I can only imagine what this is going to do once people ride it!
SFOGdude25 Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 Did you see how FAST it flew through the final dip in the quad down???
PKI Jizzman Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 That lift hill is crazy insane I love it! It looks like a Roller Coaster Tycoon lift hill gone wrong... ...with that firey crash somewhere up there. What's so crazy insane? Am I missing something? Looks like good speed to finish out the circuit, but it's not going ballstothewall into the brake run.
Bobby2889 Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 While I haven't seen it launch in person yet, I have seen how insanely tall the lift is. So you have to keep in mind while it may not appear to accelerate all that fast it is climbing 200+ feet in this video.
Dollywoodlover20 Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 I rethought about that and when I last visited and got close. The lift is a pretty tall climb even though it may not look it from the ground, again this coaster plays with perspective. I've re watched the launch video over and over, at the base you see the train pick up speed a bit then not actually start to "launch" until the entire train is a few feet up the hill. Still though, watch at the main top and you'll see the train crest over, it is going fast. For those who haven't seen the elements on the other end in person, some twisted beasts await you haha. Lots of twisty airtime hills that a picture just can't capture.
thrillerman1 Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 I've been at the park just last week and seen the launch hill over the mountain - It's NOTHING to joke about
MARK Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 Man, how's the presence of this one?! Crazy big wooden elements just peeking through the trees... Love it.
Guy T. Koepp Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 You all are drinking the cool aid. It'll never open. And I'm not the only one who is disappointed by this. Just a warning, even world leaders have a tendency to swear a bit when their vacation plans get ruined. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DqlW3x--7-4&feature=youtu.be#t=2.574875

MARK Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 I've heard these test runs are just to get footage for a documentary they're making about Lightning Rod's demise... After they shoot it, deconstruction will start immediately and all wood/steel will be returned to RMC for refund on receipt. I hope they kept the receipt.
kickflipbacktail Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 That area of the ride is gonna be hard to get more pictures and videos of but I also have not seen it testing today at all. It its testing within the next hour when I leave I'll go back over there and try to get more footage.

So it will be like a remake of the movie " The Death of Ocean View Park". Sounds like a cool idea. I hope Lightning Rod goes down easier than The Rocket did in that movie.
