bert425
thanks for the info, folks! we're looking into perhaps a Memorial Day weekend visit to St. Louis (with at least 1 day at Six Flags). it seems to be a smaller park, so likely one full day will be enough .. .likely a Sunday. looking forwards to it, if this is where we end up going. That'll be a busy weekend. One day may be pushing it without a Flash Pass. Basically the only people for whom Metro works at all are tourists. ^And gang bangers https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/51tDMHBnPaL._SX425_.jpg Edited April 8, 2019 by Danrarbc
bert425
^ yeah. .more likely, the weekend after Memorial Day. So looking at 1st weekend in June got the OK from the spouse to start planning, so he bought off on it.

ytterbiumanalyst
Happy birthday, Screamin' Eagle! Nice little writeup on the Post-Dispatch: https://www.stltoday.com/news/archives/whoosh-the-day-the-screamin-eagle-made-its-six-flags/collection_8820376c-a702-53d1-a76c-ad0693df2134.html#
TexasParkman
I rode on the second train out on the day we first ran the Eagle. i don't remember the exact day- I think it was in March... it was COLD. They had to put oil in the bearings for the train to make it around. Mr. Allen and Mr. Cobb were both there. It was a wild ride.... Think on this... Georgia got the Scream Machine- A worlds record. Missouri got the Eagle- a worlds record. Texas got Judge Roy Scream.... The Missouri park was considered an equal in those days and received the biggest coaster. This hasn't happened since. This park is due....Come on- let's build a Giga! Sorry- i just woke up from a dream.

ytterbiumanalyst
Yeah, that one's cool, and of course there were lots of shots with 70s stylllle. If you know your St. Louis history, though, that newspaper with then-Governor Kit Bond deciding to go for a second term and the crossover promotion with Famous-Barr were pretty neat artefacts. If I'm not mistaken, the Missouri park was supposed to to become the eventual flagship, hence why they own(ed) so much land. Disappointing it didn't pan out but certainly has kept the charm of it's original self.
thisdougsforu
I had been looking forward to my first visit once we have a weekend with warm temps. Then I visited Carowinds last weekend for the first time and Fury totally ruined me. I feel like grinding my SF pass into dust now, haha. Hey, at least because of riding Hurler, I now hate Boss just a little less. That rough ass coaster knocked my knees together so much I felt like my hockey days after being whacked in the knees with sticks. Was painful to walk around the park for a bit. At least Boss gives me a good ole fashioned low cranial headache that I can take an aspirin for!
Canobie Coaster
I really like the wood coaster collection at this park. Screamin' Eagle is the best of the bunch in my opinion, but they all had nice airtime and were pretty smooth.
jlp94
^ Agreed. Boss is super underrated IMO, I had a *REALLY* good ride on it in May of 2018 with lots of ejector air and it was really smooth (thank you rain!)
teacherkim
If you liked Fury, go to Carowinds for their Halloween fest. I thought it was really well done. I was 8 when Eagle opened, I remember those lines and the amount of press St Louis got for that coaster was unbelievable. I mean there was national coverage at a time without social media. It was pretty amazing. And the shot that shows both sides of the original mine train track was good too. On another note, the boy had his orientation yesterday and will do some job training next weekend. He was pretty pumped to come home with his official name tag. Even though he tried to play it cool. Danrarbc
Supergirl's site is coming along. Hall of Justice is almost entirely resurfaced. Most of the work on Flume seems complete and new wood painted.

gnucksjr
that log flume is so tiny! Is that the final drop? No hate here... at 48 years old, it's one of the oldest operating log flumes in the US, and the first double flume. A perfect ride on a warm Missouri day! It's great to see the amount of TLC that has been given to the rides and grounds in the offseason! Definitely a change from the past six or so years. I wonder if they got rid of the pea gravel under the tube slides...
SixFlagsAstroworld
I found an old Mr. Freeze commercial Even though it is shown very briefly, I've never seen the Mr. Freeze figure that's located in the station actually move.

I've always thought that because of the trouble that they have had in the past with supplying enough power to the rides LIMS that they just down right disable the figure from moving. edit** Six Flags Over Texas Mr Freeze animatronic still works, doesn't look like much, I am guessing that our Mr Freeze broke and they figured that it wasn't worth the cost of fixing. Remember when Batman had all the cool in line props like the cop car and hydrant?

It has all been removed and it looks bad now. Other Batman clones still have their queue props.
prozach626
Our park had a long history of shit breaking and not being fixed. It was the expected norm. I can't necessarily think of any really examples, with my most recent recollection of the Starflyer's light package never being fixed. I feel like things 'might' have started to turn around when they removed the rotting Hanibarrels and started sprucing up areas. Then again, I think that was during the time I refused to visit, which lasted at least five years. I hope the new GM will continue to make some of the maintenance and improvements that have reportedly taken place this past off season.
