Las Vegas Area Attractions Discussion

^I think all of Vegas is hurting. I follow some of the Vegas blogs and there are lots of reports of shows and nightclubs cutting way back.

Honestly, I do not go to the tourist side of town anymore unless it's a very special occasion.. everything has gotten way too expensive.... and the whole charging you to park almost everywhere... I would not be surprised that the local clientele visiting the establishments has also been cut way back

It has. And the CA market too. Executives are blind to what they are doing to their brands because they made so much free money. Unfortunately that still wasn't enough and Ceasars and MGM are both cutting as much back as they can and laying people off.

I get comps from MGM properties, otherwise I'd only visit for EDC.

It's a real shame too, as I do believe Vegas is one of the most unique cities in the world since it basically takes the best of every other city and brings it to one 4 mile street.

For that type of show, can't they rotate the act out every 3-5 years? That should cover both ends: You cater to the vacationer to Vegas that wants to go "All Out", but still can rotate the act to not become stale. I got to think that the "All out" type of visitor isn't the same guy thats in town 3-5 times/year....

The Vegas Cirque shows all have extremely high production costs. They wouldn't see a return on investment for at least 5 years, since the theaters are all custom built to the show. Hence why Broadway shows and residencies are easier...they're just touring acts easy to move in and out.

Ah, ok...

I didn't realize that there was a custom made venue commitment for some these shows. I was just thinking the musical acts would only be slightly more elaborate than a high end touring act.

This is a HUGE reason that "Absinthe" has been so mega-successful in their tent. Production costs are low while still being extremely impressive, and they can rotate out acts per show if they want. In fact, they already do, almost! Not changing acts between the two nightly shows, but they rotate acts daily. If you go to Absinthe on a Saturday night and again on Tuesday night there's going to be about 50% new acts you didn't see. I live here and I've seen the show 10+ times and each time is as good as the last!

You can not under estame the Power of DJ's. I Have friends that want to go back and see a few of them in just a short 3 or 4 day trip. I might be going this winter and seeing one. EDC Vegas i know brings in a ton of people, and with that Djs have shows before the big night time event starts. When you have names Like The Chainsmokers and Steve Aoki people will pay to go.

I'm with some of the others that say that Vegas has lost its flair.

I used to love going there every summer as a kid and even up through my 20's. But the last few times I have gone, I leave just a little more unimpressed than the time before. Just not my cup of tea as I would rather go to the parks and visit some of the more rural areas around the desert Southwest.

I went out there a couple of months ago with my friend and met up with his family from Colorado for his grandson's 21st birthday. After 3 days, we were both ready to leave and said that neither of us had much desire to go back - except to visit my Aunt and Uncle (who won't go anywhere near the Strip or downtown).

I will say that the Love show was still great (even somewhat different than I remember) and O was phenomenal. But $14 for an IPA draft at a bar on the Strip and "not so great" food for a lot of $$$ was just a turn-off for me.

And yes, the stale (and fresh) cigarette smoke in the casinos was not pleasant. It was bothering me way more than I recall from previous visits and my friend is highly allergic, so we were walking very fast-paced to get through Paris (where we stayed) to get into the (somewhat) fresher air outside.

doesn't hurt that "Absinthe" is a fantastic show. . seen it a few times at this point, and loved it every time (and like you said, only about a 3rd of the acts were the same each time. . tho the Host/puppet schtick NEVER gets old).

Two things:

O is going daily at the Bellagio!

I give it until the start of 2020 to go back to 5 nights a week. Every time Cirque has ventured into a 7-night schedule or adding matinee performances it only lasts a few months.

With MGM in the midst of their cost cutting moves, I doubt they would have decided to go to 7 nights if it wasn't a profitable endeavor.

It's great that they got the ride back open again as all the children are going back to school.

Also, from reports from friends of friends...it's even rougher than it was (IS THAT POSSIBLE?!?!), so good luck if you go to ride it!

^^So glad I never have to ride that thing again! It was pretty bad the one time I did.

While I no longer live near Vegas, I still have family that lives there, so I am there a couple times a year. It has been several years since I have actually gone down to the strip, I went near it the last time I was there to go to TopGolf. Sometimes we would go to the Fashion Show mall, but now we usually just go to Town Square now since it's closer to where my family lives and much more convenient. We used to go so much more to see shows or even just walk around the garden at the Bellagio, but the parking and stuff now is just not worth it.

In the past, has Desperado operated in December?

I know the ride seems hit or miss even if it's supposed to open, but I may be out that way for work.

If you read the Yelp and TripAdvisor reviews for Buffalo Bills, it is completely vacant most of the time. If you stop by on a Saturday when they are having a concert that weekend, the coaster might be open. The rest of the time, it sounds like there are less than 10 people in the whole place, so no use for any entertainment, most of the restaurants, or even table games, to be open.

I rode Desperado for the first time last month. I can't speak for December, but the ride crew was honoring their posted ride hours in September. It should be noted it was kind of windy that day, and the crew needed 15 riders in order to dispatch. With that said, after the horror stories I've heard of the coaster, I thought it was running quite well for a 25 year old Arrow hyper. Granted, I was applying the Magnum seat belt trick and was in the front row, but I thought the quirkiness was quite fun and not painful at all.
