Just a few notes...

-Larson clearly paid them to write this.

-Get ready to feel the terror of the thrilling Sky Ride at the Nebraska State Fair

-Sorry SkyJump Las Vegas and your stupid 855 foot drop... El Loco is apparently the most thrilling ride in Nevada. They count zip lines so they clearly could have counted this.

- New Jersey is a tough one... this could have gone to El Toro, Kingda Ka (the world's tallest coaster as we all know), Zumanjaro (the worlds tallest drop tower as we all know) or tons of other awesome rides. Wait until you see what they picked... I won't spoil this for you. It's too good.

- Ohio, Pennsylvania and Connecticut are all ridiculous

- Sorry Intimidator and Afterburn but the YoYo swing ride at Family Kingdom is apparently the "best thrill ride" in South Carolina.

- Bumper Boats are a thrill ride now.

This made my day. Thanks so much!

El Toro obv sucks. El Diablo's gonna kick it's bum!!!

Joker's Chaos Coaster is absolute perfection

Rolling Thunder is the best coaster in the country hands down. Screw Bizarro, Millennium Force, and El Toro!

Intimidator is not thrilling. A 10 foot swing ride made me piss myself though!

That Sky Ride nearly made me scream of terror. Such a horrifying, once in a lifetime experience.

Missouri: The Boss, Six Flags St. Louis
I can not even deal with this... Have they ever heard of OUTLAW RUN?!?!

Also, how can half of the "Best Rides" Not even be open yet?? Seriously half of them are still under construction. Ugh. I'm done with this article now.

I literally laughed out loud when I got to Rhode Island and saw a 4 year old boy driving a bumper boat.

Though I will say that I did get one thing out of this article. I had never heard of that Terror-Dactyl experience in Colorado before. That thing looks insane!

Yeah, this is one of the worst lists I've ever read on the topic. Some of the selections are fair and there are a few questionable ones that you could make a valid case for, but for the most part they just went with "it's new, so it must be the best." Just another reason I don't use Weather Channel for anything other than the weather.

That one's accurate. I live in RI. That's about all we get. That or the waterslides at Misquamicut beach, unless there's a good carnival going on. What I wouldn't give to have Rocky Point back. At least we'd have an Arrow loopscrew and a first gen Intamin drop tower.

I think the Weather Channel is trolling us, they have to be right?

Well, they already have gone to crap so probably not

The site is 80% spam "You wont believe what THIS person discovered! And dermatologists hate him" with a picture of someone peeling their face off, or "Mom is 57, looks like 27!" and clearly a model in the picture.

Almost as a terrible as the fact, while all these other Six Flags parks are getting RMCs and innovative coasters and new rides, mine gets a Larson Loop

I thought they were pretty pictures and I think that was the main purpose except possibly advertising Larsen. It would have made more sense if they had excluded coasters. In one of the Larsen Loop pics, the wooden coaster in the background takes up more space in the picture, funny.

I love how they pick rides that haven't even OPENED YET!

I was surprised they didn't pick Twisted Colossus for California, especially since they picked Wicked Cyclone for MA. It did seem like they were trying to promote a lot of new rides that opened or are opening.

Twisted Colossus? Why promote that when you have yet another AMAZING giant loop ride opening at SFDK?! I mean, they're so good, that Great Adventure's hasn't even opened yet and it's already better than El toro!

  • 8 months later...

It's clear the guys who wrote this article were primarily interested in showcasing a variety of different types of rides to be the winners so they wouldn't all be roller coasters (even though over half the picks are total bullcrap). It is obvious that they were catering to the GP, as well, so that should explain everything.

Non enthusiasts aren't stupid. Go find me one person, enthusiast or not who thinks El Diablo is the best ride at Great Adventure. I'll wait lol. I would guarantee that if you asked people what their favorite ride is at that park, 90% of people would give you one of the same 4 answers... El Toro, Nitro, Kingda Ka or Safari Off Road Adventure. Nobody would ever say El Diablo... Nobody.

Sooo the world's tallest wooden coaster with three hour lines just opened up in 2014 and Illinois is represented by X-Flight...which is also two years older...

I'm happy to see Darien Lake get some attention for New York's pick, but Rolling Thunder?? Seriously? Not like we have the tallest and fastest coaster in New York in the same park or anything like that. I don't have a problem with the Larson Loops, I just feel like they are overproduced at this point and are getting way too much unnecessary attention.

http://www.bloomberg.com/bw/articles/2014-10-09/weather-channels-web-mobile-growth-leads-to-advertising-insights

The Weather Channel's editor-in-chief & president represent the "hit our targets/forget the point" ethos that's seen a lot of businesses and websites sacrifice integrity for a shot at advertising revenue. To put it in coaster terms, The Weather Channel has gone Six Flags. The TV channel went in the direction of reality TV, and the website's writers churn out click-bait articles with zero research, depth, concern for credibility, or desire to tell you about the weather. I understand that businesses can benefit from a bit of advertising, but it can be done appropriately. For people at The Weather Channel to be proud of the fact that it's trying to become an addictive TMZ seizure of junk consumption? Gross.

I don't use The Weather Channel at all anymore for this reason, and my bored aunt now uses it to see if clouds resemble any celebrities and to peruse cute cats stuck in buckets. We shouldn't be so surprised that the list is garbage. I've also seen image links of various coasters with blatantly misleading titles like, "You'll never guess how many people died!" Zero integrity.
