Midgetman82 Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Mainly the fact that I know I'm part of a huge group of people who are insane about roller coasters as much (sometimes more or less) than I am. That, and I actually have people I can talk about roller coasters to. Attending East Coast Bash this year reassured this as I saw awesome people while I was there! Some even knew about me before I met them, which was awesome! I also get to learn about amusement parks from all around the world and hear people's opinions on them, even if I'm going to visit them or not.
rcdude Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 I love TPR for all of the following reasons: -Reports from parks all over the world, including everything from the destination parks to credit stops few have even heard of. -A focus on not just coasters, but on all aspects of the theme park experience. -An excellent forum that allows interaction with members from all over the world and is a great place to discuss and debate with other like-minded people. -Honest opinions about the parks of the world, not just super positive or very negative ones. -The best coaster POVs I've found anywhere, as well as a number of other videos, few (if any) of which were not entertaining. -Just the right amount of humor in the official reports. -Last but not least, Robb and Elissa put on what I feel are the best trips and events in the business. Seriously, TPR is great. I know that everyone involved puts a ton of work into this site and it shows, as few other sites have the same level of quality as this one does.
the ghost Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 I like TPR for a TON of reasons. I guess the main reason is the awesome group of people that inhabit TPR but another thing that is a huge plus is that we all have a shared interest of the same thing, which is pretty much having a good time at theme parks. I've also always been interested in everything from theme parks to Disney, which made going on the virtually all Disney forums difficult because I didn't "speak Disney" and although I love Disney it's far from my only interest in the industry. I can also say that although I do post on a few other sites(mostly Disney related) this is the only site I post to on a regular basis and what I would consider my favorite forum and by far the one I am the most active in posting. I love TPR for the great team, from the mods who check every nook and cranny of the site for spam and keep everything readable to Robb and Elissa who organize what are in my opinion the greatest theme park events/trips in the entire world, and from just the few events I have been to the people have been so awesome that I have promised myself when I am able to afford it I will join a trip in a few years down the road. On a slightly more personal note I would like to thank the TPR gaming community, who have really helped me step up my RCT2 playing abilities... I love so much that we still have so many people playing a game that over 10 years old, and I love that we probably have the biggest single gaming community in the world for RCT/NE as a whole. Lastly on a very personal level I am not the most outgoing guy in the world... in fact I am quite shy in person and it sort of terrifies me to talk to new people... no idea why, but that happens sometimes. Being part of a forum allows me to interact with hundreds of people, often different countries and even continents, but it also gives me the ability to eventually hang out with these people at person and go to parks for TPR events where I have honestly made some awesome friends! I am sure there are several other specific reasons, but I love and appreciate the entire TPR team!
Gregathy_G3 Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Honestly I didn't know much about Theme Park Review. I joined the American Coaster Enthusiasts at 17 and a year later I was serving in the Army. I would spend my weekends visiting my best friend from my base (Fort Sill, Oklahoma) to his at Fort Hood, Texas. We got to visit all the amusement parks in Texas (except for Six Flags Astroworld). We both deployed to Iraq from different units around the same time in Nov/Dec 2005. I was stationed at a place called Logistics Base Seitz which was part of the larger Baghdad International Airport Base. I was really bored when we weren't driving in supply convoys, pulling base/route security, or any other thing that needs done while serving out a year in Baghdad. I usto play video games and watch movies alot to ease the boredom. I miss going to amusement parks and had watched a few Discovery Channel and History Channel videos about roller coasters so I looked up roller coaster videos online and discovered Theme Park Review coaster expedition videos. I loved watching those videos that I still watch them over and over again to this day, even while I'm writing this reply. They cheer me up on a bad day and give background noise when I studying in college. These videos helped keep my morale high looking forward to coming home and going to even more parks and riding more roller coasters with my friends. So I thank you for making these music video style amusement park videos. I hope you go back to putting music in your future roller coaster DVD's, but thanks again for making them in the first place they kept me feeling good in a dark place.
gisco Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 The trip reports to the parks all over the world are what drew me here first. Loved seeing the parks in different countries. Now it is the outstanding trips Robb & Elissa plan each year. Haven't missed a year yet going on a trip and have made a lot of great friends.
simaticable Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 I love that this site is so welcoming to everyone and that anyone can just come in and join the conservation. It's great that so many members post great trip reports as well and of parks that some of us may never get to see.
MayTheGForceBeWithYou Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 I like the stupidity of it all... Okay, let me rephrase. It's the random and silly nature of discussion and jokes I enjoy, yet the silliness doesn't really cross into the realm of idiocy (BTW Robb, you're doing an excellent job keeping the idiocy off). Along with the community, I really enjoy the updates and press releases we consistently get from both parks and the members, ensuring the discussions don't end with the off season.
netdvn Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 I joined this site for the donkeys. Donkeys are pretty awesome animals. - And I stayed for the coasters.
gerstlaueringvar Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 I started to love coaster since I was three but it is TPR that really taught me about the industry. Before registrations last year, I was basically a GP who only know what Intamin is and slightly know about the mechanics. But in one year, I took a TPR tour, learned a lot of new things from the forums and knew some really nice people. I used to lack a sense of humor but now, people around me said that I'm funny so thanks to everyone in TPR for changing me. It's been the best year in my life and I honestly don't know why I couldn't think of why I love TPR too much while I browse TPR forums everyday and talk about all the amazing things from TPR and my TPR tour all the time. I just LOVE TOR so much and words cannot describe.
Jew Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 TPR is a true community. I have met so many great people that I consider great friends, though we live all over the world and rarely get to see each other.
Jon Sabo Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Many readers have already posted comments similar to my reasons (trip packages, trip reports, etc)...but, one of the reasons I enjoy this site over many others is the respect-value parks have for Robb/Elissa and the TPR members and vice versa. Whether is its getting permission to film POV shots or special access to normally off-limit areas, amusement park operators/owners trust TPR and its members in that we all love parks/coasters. Some of the other media sites are generally out to be "first" in releasing information about a new coaster (most times in an unprofessional manner and/or without parks consent). Media outlets and even ride manufacturers tend to lean to Robb and TPR for video footage, park/ride advice and even special appearances for ride related incidents. TPR moderators also keep the site classy with keeping the posted rules in check as well as seek advice or suggestions for future site upgrades and enhancements. Most of all? TPR members must have a sense of humor as the disclaimer advertises.
YoshiFan Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 The amount of videos and photos / trip reports posted is great and there are more posted here than any other amusement park or theme park site that cover multiple parks.
Mr Stratosphere Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 The biggest part I love about TPR is the true friends I have made, there are friends on here that I haven't seen in a couple of years and when we do, we pick up right where we left off. The events / trips / videos etc are all a bonus. There are some pretty terrific people here!
dylanreich Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Definitely the TPR community, I've met and are friends with some awesome people. Also, the trips and ERT.
eddie200330 Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Let me echo the community part. Where else can you sling it out with total strangers yet still feel like everyone is one big group of friends!!Plus you get all the latest news and updates from around the world and most of the time get to see new stuff from the ground up. Oh and the trips/bashes are way too much fun for just any regular old people.
Blue Turbo Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 I love TPR because it is a place where I can talk to others who share my passion for roller coasters and theme parks. The community is so nice and welcoming. I went to WCB 2013 knowing no one, but I met some amazing people and had a great time thanks to everyone that was there, and especially Robb and Elissa.
B&MBoy1982 Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 This is the only place where i can openly express my love for B&M Donkeys!
Someotherguyuser Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 People are awesome, they make everything fun, and they put on awesome events. YOLO
djboss302 Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 I love TPR because roller coasters are my life and they're the only people that understand my love for coasters
azza29 Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 The community is what sets TPR apart from the everything else out there, and this is 100% due to Robb and Elissa's hard work to build it up. Case in point - I mentioned in the ChrisHanKwanSivus thread that I like Swedish fish but can't buy them locally, thinking I *might* get lucky and my secret Santa would put a small packet in my gift. They sent me a 3-pound bag. To Australia! This kind of stuff is why I love TPR!
Hercules Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 I came for Robb's jokes, but I stay for Chuck's.
ArizonaGuy Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 I love TPR because this is the best place to come for good conversation about coasters and pretty much has all the up to date information in the industry. I love all of the effort Robb and Elissa put into the site and the videos. I've been hooked for a long time now and will continue to be!
Nrthwnd Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 ....For the flavored popcorn. (And so much of the above posts.)
