Your favorite and least favorite Bumper Cars

Recommended Posts

Add me to the Skooters bandwagon...there simply are no bumper cars to top them.

Best ones other than that? For me, I'd have to say Conneaut's bumper cars. They do hit pretty hard, although the floor is pretty uneven. I'll give Dutch Wonderland a shout-out too, even though I haven't been there since 2002.

My least favorite (that I've been on) have to be the ones at Waldameer. They're made by Ninja, who also provided the cars for Delgrosso's dodgem ride. Said cars move significantly faster than the ones at Waldameer. Also, the floor isn't really big enough for the amount of cars they have available.

Favorite: Skooters at Knoebel's for sure.

I sat down and immediately noticed that the car frame was STEEL and not fiberglass like normal. This is why they're so awesome. Every collision just about gave me whiplash.

Least favorite: KI's Dodgem. They're good, but nothing really special.

If your answer is anything other than the Skooters at Knoebel's, you're wrong.

Yes.

There might be a decent battle for second place, but there's just no way anything else can compete with the Skooters.

I haven't been on many, but my favorite is probably SFA's Road Rage Cage during Fright Fest. They had fog, lasers, and techno music which really made the ride awesome. Felt like I was in a Tron Lightcycle race.

Least favorite is some random ones I went on at a carnival. Too many cars in a small space, and went very slow.

Skooters. By far.

But my second favorite were these bumper cars at a tiny little park on Long Beach Island- Fantasy Island. My family used to go there when I was like 7 and I remember them being freakin awesome. They had no safety island and they FLEW. It hurt to get hit, especially from a head-on collision. Obviously, I was young and weak and nostalgia may be kicking in here, but those were my favorite bumper cars for a long time.

I'm not even sure if the park's there anymore, what with Sandy and all.

Bet one must be the Bumper cars at Tusenfryd. They may not be the fastest or the most powerful hits, but they are really fun, since you only need to nudge someone for them to spin out into oblivion. They are the only ones that I know of that you can power slide through the track as well

Just pure fun!!

The bad ones are those with too much H&S, like one way driving, no head on collisions, too cumbersome restraints, etc. That's not what Bumper cars are for...

Top Tier

Oaks Amusement Park: Fiberglass-bodied Lusse Auto Skooters that hit hard and spin out of control with little effort.

Knoebels: Beautiful metal-bodied Lusse Auto Skooters that are so intense they can be painful and...you already know!

El Dorado Auto Skooters at Coney Island: Many have mistaken the ride's dark, noisy, seedy environment for a nightclub. These infamous Soli bumper cars could be wielded for devastating hits akin to slamming into the lap bar on the nearby Cyclone, or could be raced around the slick floor like go karts. The irreverent employees were known to tease riders and even jump into (or onto) cars at will. Sadly, this legendary attraction has most likely gone out of business for good, and is even rumored to have been completely destroyed.

Very Good

Keansburg: The run-down, themed fleet was a mix of Lusse Auto Skooters and modern replicas that blended in very well but were still distinguishable. While I thankfully had no trouble snagging Lusses, both varieties seemed to hit hard on the sizable floor. After park closing, employees entertained remaining bystanders with rule-breaking antics. I can only hope the full set survived and can be brought back to its former glory.

Interstate Amusements, Seaside, Oregon: Meticulously maintained metal-bodied Lusse Auto Skooters. Unfortunately, the cars aren't the fastest and the floor is modest in size, but they're still Lusses. Plus, there is Fascination nearby! Trip report.

Rye Playland Auto Scooter: While not Lusses, they run pretty fast and hit hard. While t-bones are the preferred mode of destruction on many rides that don't allow head-ons, these ones were particularly fun to sideswipe in.

Unique features

Funtown Splashtown, Galveston Pier: Open floors; allowed head-ons. Too bad my car at Galveston was almost useless.

Quassy: Cranky operator, but these cars both physically and "legally" allowed for backwards driving.

Modern donut cars: These are probably the most fun of the tamer cars. Plus if you get bored, you can spin in place!

Not been on many at all sadly...but I do prefer the "free for all" ones, just a huge plane where you can go berserk. The "track" ones, yeah you bump people and chaos happens but its still streamlined. I want it to end up with 20 people all in the middle crashing

I am partial to Sandblasters @ SFMM, mainly because that was my first ride I worked as a lead. And also had to show Jim Carrey the giant hole in the floor when he wondered why they were closed for his park buyout for the Bruce Almighty wrap party.

Sounds like a cool story - can you share more about that party?

There's nothing more to share. Apparently Jim Carrey likes bumper cars and was bummed they were closed, so he wanted to know why.

I don't really have a favorite. I have had not-so-great rides on Gran Prix at Kennywood and Bumper Cars at Conneaut Lake Park.

Gran Prix was really stubborn in terms of driving. Bumper Cars was bad because there were only four total people, so there was extremely minimal bumping.

I haven't come across any bumper cars that top the Skooters at Knoebels. I think the worst I've ever seen are the ones at DCA--they look lame even by kiddie-ride standards.

Least favourite - our own bumper cars in Playland. Literally a small rectangle tent-covered ride, with barely enough room for any "free for all" bumping. And with one or more cars "down" and parked at the sides, it took away even more room to drive around in. Pretty sad.

I think my favourite (for now) has to be the bumper cars we rode at Tivoli

in Copenhagen, during the TPR 2009 Scandi Tour. The driving and bumping

was so wild and intense, one of the group nearly bump-tipped another car over!

Awesome bumper cars.
