P. 403 - Park opening for a limited Holiday Event!

Recommended Posts

Looking at the Webcam it looks like the crew is cranking the trains out. Glad Fury has proven to be a success for the park. Looks like trains pause on the transfer track for 15-20 seconds before proceeding to the lift. I assume the PLC does this to prevent a block setup.

This weekend is going to be insane! Spring Break and Easter Weekend = LARGE CROWDS! Looking at the webcam I'm like: "Fast Lane is definitely going to sell out today." LOL. I'm just patiently waiting for Apr. 17th. Hopefully, it want be too crowded.

It shouldn't be too crowded in the morning with schools in session. However after school lets out in the afternoon it will get much busier since the park is open until 10 that night.

So, it's not just me having a look at the cam to see the wonders of an efficient 3-train operation. I think that the PLC let's the train roll onto the lift hill when the previous train has cleared the turnaround.

I am glad for variety in the giga spectrum, but it's likely due at least in part to that 'masterpiece' requiring millions in modifications and retracking.

Ignorant posts like this are really annoying. For one, I assume you're talking about i305. Secondly, do you have any idea just how many rides have had to replace pieces of track over the years? You say that as though i305 is the only ride that's ever had to do this! And finally, if you *actually believe* that B&M's layout had anything to do with i305 then this is the dumbest comment I'm going to read all day! (I hope!)

Please, people, I beg of you...if you don't know what you are talking about, please don't post. You just make everyone else dumber by thinking you might actually have some insight on the subject matter.

I was at the park yesterday, Friday. It was insanely packed. I was there from 9am to 4:30pm and rode Fury 3x, Intimidator 1x, and Afterburn 2x. Every single attraction in the park had a queue spilling out into the midway. Fury was over 2 hours, but I rode it first thing in the morning and then twice with a quick queue I won from the plinko game. Getting there at 9 paid off, as there was no line to park, parked right next to Fury, and got in the park when they let us in at 9:15. They hold back the crowd and walk everyone to Fury at 10, and the massive crowd behind me stretched further than I can see. I was even int he 5th row back of people and didn't ride until 10:50, as there was just that many people.

As for the ride...I had my hopes up and was extremely disappointed even with fairly low expectations. The first half is super fast, and the fun part of the ride, but I felt it was still pretty weak on the forces and rotations. It has potential as it's a "new style" for B&M with the low to the ground stuff but it still lacked that umph you get from Intamin. If the whole coaster was like this it would have been better as it was still the more intense part of the ride and I still enjoyed it. The 2nd half is just slow and incredibly weak...I think it may be the worst section of a major coaster I have ever ridden. There is nothing that even comes close to resembling ejector airtime...it felt just like any other B&M hyper even built and I think Goliath @ SFOG and Behemoth are even stronger and better rides. It was even a beautiful 80 degree day, so I don't think "warming up" has much to do with it when people were even raving about it in the cold last week. I just don't get it. It's the exact B&M we've all come to now in the last few years...gentle giants. There is no doubt the GP loves it, as I heard many people come off and say "That is the best coaster I have ever been on. Unbelievable." But when you have traveled and ridden some really kick ass rides, it just felt really weak and a huge disappoint. I thought after Banshee surprised me this could once actually getting on it...but it was a let down. I will say it looks absolutely beautiful, and the interaction and entrance area were great.

Here are some photos I took.

Why you get here early...awesome parking.

IMG_1655.thumb.JPG.1554dec916b97b47764eb33455add1cb.JPG

It looks cool...

IMG_1656.thumb.JPG.ecf08ae2d0b61411b3e199e7d7b82ada.JPG

I was at least interested to try out the funky shaping.

New entrance was great!

IMG_1662.thumb.JPG.87730cdd906fc8003e3ddc26e1675742.JPG

HUGE crowd behind me to ride Fury. Instant 2 hour wait off the bat.

This is where I was in line based on a 9am arrival.

IMG_1669.thumb.JPG.c18685dbbe329bf9e21b2f4448496652.JPG

After my first ride on Fury, I went for 2 spins on Afterburn.

IMG_1671.thumb.JPG.2e2f0cc913fdacd8ed442b9bdd7bd9eb.JPG

This is still the best coaster in the park.

IMG_1673.thumb.JPG.d6eef256476df313585bc6d46372c247.JPG

Quick rotations, and forceful. Love it

IMG_1676.thumb.JPG.300fecb289528880cfada2bcd3274b66.JPG

B&M will never be this good again :(

IMG_1678.thumb.JPG.d73cc6e829f1961fdba8f3a7f4aa9e5b.JPG

Also gave Intimidator a try again...

IMG_1680.thumb.JPG.2edcec09217f5a6bc26c8c46ab48bec5.JPG

I sat in row 4 and there wasn't any airtime :(

IMG_1682.thumb.JPG.ce9a3a4ea07c22fd2bf8d0a27f27c685.JPG

Nighthawk looks pretty. In fact the whole park looked amazing visually.

IMG_1684.thumb.JPG.a77bc6ace98042ea748fc2ba5a0b62dd.JPG

Although I find it strange this got the same exact paint job as Intimidator...also a full queue here.

IMG_1688.thumb.JPG.535a6d7f3db3990b80cadaaf00a5d279.JPG

This is the best thing ever! I spent 10 bucks and won 2 passes to skip the 2 hour line on Fury, worth it.

IMG_1689.thumb.JPG.aa3ea59639ac21ab078ef191581115dc.JPG

This is what you get. Fast Lane entrance for 2. It was only 5-10 minutes using this lane.

IMG_1690.thumb.JPG.3d308d845c361586e2393867ae713ea9.JPG

The area around Fury is nice as well...identical to Gatekeeper, Banshee, Leviathan, etc.

IMG_1699.thumb.JPG.1ceb5d543fdd36145abccfa42d833bed.JPG

I took some better pictures outside the park. America!

IMG_1700.thumb.JPG.b1117b259649dec01169c733d022e693.JPG

The first turnaround was probably the best part of the ride honestly.

IMG_1703.thumb.JPG.c28d7a0dddaaf4b254aba1dbf91d8332.JPG

Funky, but forceless.

IMG_1704.thumb.JPG.62d53ed1b1bb16aeeb8e9cc6f1831deb.JPG

This turn is just strange, kills the ride's mojo.

IMG_1708.thumb.JPG.b55d5aa443c398deb15f2b96ccd18bde.JPG

Love all the angles though...

IMG_1716.thumb.JPG.32827d45c1e1b990687c5fedc43446b7.JPG

Interesting you can just walk around all under the ride.

IMG_1722.thumb.JPG.f26d060ff31ce9bfd0cae1fa1d980c19.JPG

Another train flying over! It was more fun to watch!

IMG_1723.thumb.JPG.3403653c2675414b02be6633350317bf.JPG

The first drop felt a bit underwhelming even compared to Leviathan, IMO.

IMG_1724.thumb.JPG.4029d6d9c4523d18d3da5305ceb9edbd.JPG

Pretty trains.

IMG_1729.thumb.JPG.a7e86f848eeef5b44b17921044936b12.JPG

People loved watching it around the bridge area.

IMG_1732.thumb.JPG.e194e0d4ffa81fefdf42af0189eca429.JPG

Right under ya!

IMG_1733.thumb.JPG.55d2ab9fec384dbcd75f9f53bfbf89ec.JPG

One more flying over.

IMG_1734.thumb.JPG.5940ea0634bb58df07843bf4ffb16e2d.JPG

Photographers will have fun with this ride.

IMG_1736.thumb.JPG.46e929e48e21dbb1a4019f8696439f39.JPG

Another area you can stand under the track.

IMG_1739.thumb.JPG.533a4f773062df61a6ab7adbc958ed6e.JPG

With a nice camera and zoom, this will be the money spot I think.

IMG_1744.thumb.JPG.03dbcd56dd77a9d72af7f5338e8077e5.JPG

Heading up for 90 degrees of...0.5gs?

IMG_1748.thumb.JPG.2e6709b25ea26cfef48d6fb5aaea2c53.JPG

Last shot from underneath before heading out. Still had a really fun time at the park despite the crowds and underwhelming rides. Still a lot of fun, but not coming back any time soon.

Definitely appreciate your honest opinion, but I find it interesting that you think Behemoth is the stronger and better ride....

I thought that Behemoth was one of the weakest B+M Hypers (along with Raging Bull) I have ever ridden. For me Leviathan was far superior to this one.

But I will conquer Fury in June and have the ability to judge on my own, looking forward to try it out. By the way, nice pictures!

Interesting review, Jake...thank you for sharing!

It has been very entertaining reading all of the different reviews of this coaster from the Charlotte locals to folks that have thousands of coaster credits in their back pockets.

This reminds me a lot of when Gatekeeper & Leviathan opened. There were some CP & CW fanboys that made it out to be the greatest thing since sliced bread and then were offended when some of the more seasoned coaster riders said that it was average at best, or actually (gasp!) not all that great.

I went out to ride because they are both 3.5 hour drives from my house. But if I lived in say, Florida, would I have driven or flown there to specifically ride these coasters? Absolutely not.

Fury feels the same way in my opinion. If I'm in the area, it would be fun to go & ride...but I would not drive ten hours or buy a $400 plane ticket to go to specifically ride it.

I am very happy for Carowinds that they got a giga though...they definitely needed another signature coaster to go with Intimidator and Afterburn.

I think it's funny people are still arguing so much over this ride. Anyone who has ridden a few B&M hypers knows what to expect...a smooth and comfortable ride which can give mild to strong floater airtime, and if you're lucky you'll get a few spots of moderately strong positive G's. As Robb said, the GP will eat it up, while most enthusiasts will have more lukewarm reactions because...let's face it...enthusiasts who travel the world are by and large adrenaline junkies. By our nature, we are attracted to the most extreme rides out there, and B&M doesn't cater to these people with their hyper/giga designs.

With all that said, I have met some seasoned riders who prefer B&M to Intamin, so it really does come down to personal preference. Then we can break airtime down even more; for instance, I prefer sustained airtime over short pops, so I prefer El Toro's camelbacks over the RT crossover hill, even if the airtime is weaker. But I digress

Bottom line is let's enjoy the ride for what it is and stop getting on each other for having different opinions than our own.

I went in with an open mind after all of the glowing reviews hoping it would surprise me, but it just didn't sadly. I wasn't even comparing to Intanin...other B&Ms are far better rides in my opinion. The poster above me has a really good point about what some of us want in a ride and this doesn't do it for me. Which is fine, it will be a winner for the park and GP will eat it up. For me, I'll go up and ride I-305, fly to Sweden for some Balder, or hit up the new RMCs or even Morgan Hyper-GTX rides for my fix!

Thanks for the honest review, Garbels! As expected, it's a forceless ride. How about the rattle, does it exist in the back rows?

I'm really curious of their intention of putting a 10 degrees drop after the 5th turn. And what's with that helix? The only bigger ones that came to mind are Lisbergbanan's and Beast's.

As expected, it's a forceless ride.

...In some people's opinion. I dont care one way or the other if Fury is the best ride ever or completely terrible (I wont be riding anytime soon as far as I can tell) but it's really annoying that a bunch of people don't understand the difference between opinion and fact.

Every review I've read I've enjoyed and appreciated immensely, from the ones that are underwhelmed to the ones that are glowing. But one type of opinion doesn't have more merit than the other. Maybe I'm just spoiled because I'm surrounded by people in college who understand basic things like how an opinion works but I really thought most people would understand this.

(PS, love the pictures Jakizle)

^^HA! Not forceless my @$$!! I had the terrible misfortune of riding this snooze machine yesterday. If this coaster is forceful then Gatekeeper might as well be Kumba!

The drop was meh, the barrel turn dragged through, the s-curve didn't throw me like these fanboys claim it does. Just the whole ride through, I was bored. The helix was just a waste of steel. The support wasn't alarming in the least bit. If you want an AMAZING ride and not another B&M hyper, I suggest you take your behind to Richmond. Fury 325 is just another over hyped front gate statement.

And the rattle was VERY noticeable. Especially on those last two hills.

I rode Fury yesterday after a 2 hour line. Was a good ride for sure. I didn't think it was forceless, but it isn't on the level of Maverick or Intimidator 305. A nice addition to Carowinds for sure. The food at the park was really nice as well. Will anyone be going to the "Taste of the Carolinas" event?

I'm really intrigued by Fury 325. Not to mention I'd love some old fashioned floaty airtime fun on Intimidator. Do I think they will be my #1 and #2? Not really, but I think they will make for an amazing trip to what seems to be a very nice park.

THIS! THIS! THIS! THIS! THIS! THIS! THIS!

I honestly do not understand the mentality shared by so many people that "if new coaster is not automatically your OMFG #1 blow me away ride, it means you HATE it and want it burned to the ground."

I get this so often and it's so insanely stupid and annoying. There are a TON of coasters that I *like* and would go out of my way to travel for that do not appear on my top ten list. Hell, Tokyo Disney, Europa Park, and Grona Lund are some of my favorite parks in the world that I would spend thousands of dollars to travel to, and not a single one of their coasters appear in my "top ten" list.

But to some coaster nerds, if you're not violently ejaculating milk cartons over the newest coaster, you're the most evil, vile person on the planet.

And this sort of thinking really needs to stop. It's a cancer that infects this hobby. FFS people, just enjoy the rides for what they are regardless where they fall in yours or someone else's ranking list.

I can't say this enough and I know for some people it will never sink in.

There's some people who are either locals or have a personal connection to Carowinds who really want Fury to succeed, and to them it means it has to be the best coaster ever. They will build it up so much and idealize the ride (especially before it opens) to a point where they cannot look at it from an unbiased opinion. This phenomenon is called "fanboy-ism." I get it, I do this with music, Radiohead releases a new album and I've anticipated it so much that I'd say "best album of the decade" or whatever immediately. It's only once you really move past the hype and expectations that you can truly compare it and realize what it actually is.

The bottom line is that Fury is a huge marketable new addition to Carowinds that is sure to bring a TON of business for the coming years, and I'm sure it's really fun! It's great to see the park succeed in a realistic sense, I wish Carowinds all the best in their growth of the park. And although the ride is sure to be great, it will definitely NOT be in an accurate Top 10 ranking in the world. There's steel coasters, maybe even 10-20 years old that probably deliver more (Bizzaro? GeForce? Katun? Nemesis? Kumba?).

But like with most theme parks, the fanboys here are the most disappointed that "their new coaster" is not the world's best like they built it up to be before it even opened. Everyone has their biases, but I surely trust the opinion of somebody who has ridden 500-1000 coasters over a Carowinds local...

I had no idea you could walk under the ride on so many places. It's really cool when you can get close to a ride like that.

It's interesting that Leviathan has netting all under the track that goes over the walk way yet Fury has none. I think it looks a lot better without it.

Fury really is an amazing looking coaster.
