Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread
beenagins87 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yikes. Do they pat you down or what? Or do they just ask you and hope you don't lie? (Sorry I'm asking so many stupid questions... I have yet to go to a park with such a draconian policy) In addition to about 3 or 4 large signs, the person at the front is watching pretty closely and asking everyone if they have a phone. You're allowed keys, wallet, etc. in secured pockets, just not a phone. If you wear glasses without a strap, they'll even tell you to put them in your pocket. The ride operators MUST pull down your lapbar, and they don't allow any riders to do it themselves. If anyone does, they unlock that row and reset until the ride op pulls it down. I'm guessing that's also a way of looking for any sort of phone shaped object in people's pockets that may have slipped through. Ops pushing down the lap bar is a fairly new policy as well, I was there in July and I don't recall them doing that and I was there this past Sunday and they are very strictly enforcing the lap bar policy. I spent Memorial Day and the Tuesday after at KD, and they were enforcing the op pushing the lapbar down rule the whole time I was there. -
Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

It was surreal, because I didn’t ride it till later in the afternoon, and everything else up to that point had been nothing but stellar operations wise. I also had a delay on my first Raptor ride, but that was due to someone blowing chunks and not the actual operations. -

Another tip for FL+, purchase it at one of the many stores they sell it at, the FL+ location at the front of the park is mobbed for the first hour or so from everyone that uses the main gate. -

I may have caught it at an off time, as I only rode it once each day. But, I waited longer to board Gatekeeper with my FL+ then I did Steel Vengance. -

The lines USUALLY weren’t as bad, but it’s also not really comparable. Gatekeeper is a whore. It’s the only coaster in the park that I’ve ever seen where a good crew can dispatch a train as soon as the last one clears the lift block (except Magnum maybe but it’s a longer lift). I’m sure there have been power hours where it did over 2,000 riders and I’d be surprised if Steel Vengeance has ever hit 1,000. It loads ridiculously fast, it’s reliable and it has 3 trains. Valravn isn’t AS MUCH of a capacity machine since each train holds the same amount of riders as a Steel Vengeance train but it has 3 of them and it loads faster. Gatekeeper was often at 2+ hours early but at the end of the night it could be in the station. Valravn was always a bit longer reflecting its a capacity. When I went last Wednesday and Thursday, operations on every ride were top notch except for Gatekeeper, especially on Thursday. Stacking all three trains, opening gates one side at a time, it was truly an epic clusterfuck of Six Flags porporions, Iron Dragon with VR was running smoother operations later that night. -

I had a FL+ on Wednesday and Thursday, and the longest I waited was maybe 20 mins. Thursday after it stormed, the FL+ was about 5 mins, I ended up getting 5 rides in about 30 mins. -

That would be a capacity nightmare at La Ronde, it would probably have a daily put through of 36 -

FL+ is worth is just for all you want night rides on Beast alone, when I went last summer I had FL+ but only really used it for Mystic Timbers, Beast, FOF and Nighthawk, everything else was prettt much a walk on. -
They really do. I hoped so hard for this conversion after visiting (and hoped they'd go with blue rails even, pretty sure I posted that here forever ago!) But yeah this parks lineup is absolutely fu*king stacked. RMC Cylone a really good B&M hyper a really really good, classic custom Schwarzkopf multi-looper, the BEST Superman clone a good Batman clone the best B&M standup a classic, really good out-and-back woodie a really great 3-lift mine train a really great unique drop tower a really great classic dark ride a really great modern dark ride a refurbished classic Vekoma (yeah Im reaching with this) a Skyscreamer a great Gotham city etc etc etc I love this park so much. It’s easy for me to forget how much we really have because I visit this park 8-10 times a season usually. But when you put it like that, we do have a lot going for us! Not to mention some charm that just isn’t matched by many of the other corporate parks. A little surprised that I didn’t see anything announced for White Water. Did I miss something? Don't forgot the chains only Eurofighter

I've got a sneaky suspicion that SFA will troll with us over the next few days... there are several attractions that have been rumored to be closing at SFA recently (PBR was one, ROAR another)... but I have a feeling (if my sources are right) that the attraction closing will surprise some folks (something that many/most people wont have seen coming... but not necessarily a bad surprise). Apocalypse?? People wouldn't see if coming as it's not been at the park long, and considering the feelings most people seem to have, it wouldn't be considered a bad surprise would it??

After visiting Kings Island last month, I didn't really notice much difference in their FOF other than they had a lot more light peaking through, which makes the one at KD superior imo, the one at Kings Island might as well had the lights on. -
This is super-bratty thing to say, but I wish I could be in charge of that loading platform for a day and fix their whole system. Seriously, giving an extra 10 seconds to let people settle in properly (after putting their drink bottles in the holder), and THEN locking all rows ONCE, without having to reset half the rows individually would do wonders for that ride's capacity. I know that's really a know-it-all's perspective, but I really think that would help. They didn't have to relock our train at all, but the train in front of us they had to relock 3 separate occasions. Little kids I get having issues with the seat, but fully functional adults who have most likely been on a 17 year old ride on multiple occasions need to get it together.
