CoasterAuditor
Well, the original term "Steel Curtain" that Steelers fans used to describe their defense was a play on the nostalgia and fear of the Cold War and the Iron Curtain from shortly before. Isn't history and politics sexy? I prefer politics and nuclear tensions to literally never be on my mind when I am enjoying theme parks.

Samuel
This is a real gem if you're from Pittsburgh, and I think TPR will dig it, too. It's a lot of footage from the classic documentary Kennywood Memories that didn't make the final cut, put together to make a new program that just debuted last night: p.s. check out the stand-up experience on Thunderbolt! For some reason I'm having trouble getting the video to work with tags. If anyone can edit this or successfully post the video, feel free.

djcoastermark
Thanks for the link Samuel. Fun to see the park and people back then. ( lordy, those hair styles !) Huge video cameras, no cell phones, and things getting "slippy" after the rain.
Hilltopper39
Wow, that footage of the maintenance guy climbing the shuttle loop with no fall protection, different world back then haha.
jedimaster1227
Kennywood has shared even more great photos as construction on The Steel Curtain continues! Whatever the rest of the week holds, today is a #nofilter kind of day on The #SteelCurtain site! #HereWeGo
CoasterAuditor
Great photos! Such an exciting new coaster. Really makes Kennywood look even more interesting than it already was. I just hope it accommodates larger riders so if I try to go ride it this year I will be okay but there is 0 precedent for it right now.

JJLehto
I am trying to temper my excitement because I do kinda fear Steel Curtain will be a flop, but I cant help myself from being excited, esp as pics are coming out. OK so Im deff going in June (I have to assume the ride will be open then). Does anyone know what crowds are like a weekend in early June? The 8th or 9th. If its expected to be crowded is there a fast pass type thing and is it worth it? I thought I saw some people using it when I went last year, and that weekend, in Sept the park was VERY crowded. So much so the lines were at a standstill for most everything and with limited time I left early having missed some of the rides there: Extermintator, Jack Rabbit and Racer which didnt seem to be running. coasterkyle
This might be a stupid question but is Primers track (Sky Rocket) manufactured by the same place that's doing this track for S&S?
PennStater
Yes, IML manufactured the track for both. http://www.intermountainlift.com
JJLehto
So what crowds can be expected for a weekend in early June? Would sat or sun make any difference?

I thought I saw some people using it when I went last year, and that weekend, in Sept the park was VERY crowded. We used it in July last year. We walked on every ride. However, be aware that there are only a couple middle rows reserved for the fast pass. I'd go for it will Steel Curtain. I wish I could say how it helped us out throughout the entire day, but after being in the park for a few hours an hour long storm moved in. The park closed for the remaining six hours, despite it being one of the most beautiful evenings of our week long PA trip. Didn't even get to ride Thunderbolt. With that being our one and only experience, we're not big Kennywood fans. $300 down the shitter.

I feel ya my experience there was not so great either. Some here warned me that therides dont open till 11 so I was prepared but it was stilk kind of annoying. Nothing to do but pick a ride to wait 30 minutes for to open when really it would've been a walk on... And at least when I went not all opened at once. Racer didnt till later and some rides opened up kinda whenever as well. Was annoying and meant huge lines. Huge. I didnt get on jack rabbit as the line was massive and only had a few hours and the line was moving like a snail. Exterminator closed down and Sky Rocket was down all year so I missed half their coasters basically, and for a pricier than expected ticket and how lackadaisical the park seemed I was less than thrilled... Its closeness to Cedar Point and steel curtain is why I'm returning.
