Disneyland Resort (DL, DLR, DCA) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

Hey everybody!

This thread is simple! Rather than having a million little threads about everything that goes on at the Disneyland Resort, including Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure, this thread is designed to consolidate it all into one user-friendly thread. Feel free to use it to post updates, trip reports, questions, comments, and of course, general discussion. For pictures and videos of these park as well as past updates, see TPR's Disneyland Park Park Index Page and TPR's Disney California Adventure Park Index Page.

I feel really stupid for not taking any pictures of the new Monsters Inc. Ride at DCA. They're building it in the old Superstar Limo building. I stayed at the park for 3 days and didn't take a picture of the outside once.

So far... the outside looks the same. They've stripped off the old paint and began to repaint the outside using the same facade. I'm sorry I don't have any pictures, but imagine the beginning to the Monsters Inc. movie. The outside of the queue looks like the openening credits with the snake and the title credits.

Another ride I got very close to without any real proof was the new Finding Nemo ride that's taking over the old Submarine ride place. There was a lot of construction going on all over tomorrowland, but you could get a good view if you rode the monorail.

To anyone who visits any DLR forums this might be old news, just thought I would share to those who won't be able to go until after May 5th. I'm sure all the new rides will be "officialy" announced then.

I never went on it, but i saw the video on the DVDs. It looked a bit cheesy, but enjoyable in its own way. Besides, with all the "celebrities" featured in there, that thing was gonna get dated very quickly.

So Disneyland Resort gets two dark rides back to back. What do you guys think?

Looks like DCA is also getting EPCOT's Turtle Talk, anyone know where that is going?

Looks cool. I hate how dark rides are becoming a thing of a past so it's good to see that at least some new dark rides are being built. I hope that they also put the ride in Disney World as well (maybe in MGM?), as long as they don't tear out any "classic" Fantasyland ride to build it.

Is the Monster's Inc. ride just a regular dark ride, or something else? I presonally think that Disney should have stayed with the idea of a Incredibles themed Robocoaster. Also, Disney has also confirmed that they are going to build a Finding Nemo attraction in the Submarine Lagoon.

I believe the rumors have said that this is basically taking over the ride system from superstar limo. So I don't even know if they will change the layout or anything. They will probably change the cars but who knows what else.

^^Is the Turtle Talk thing, basically the Stitch thing they have at Innoventions at Disneyland?

It will not be like Spiderman. It will be very similar to Superstar Limo, with slow moving cars through animatronics.

Turtle Talk is amazing! People come out with the best reactions! It is something magical for kids, to talk to a cartoon character. Kids and Parents enjoy it equally. I think sometimes the parents enjoy the jokes more because they get it more than the kids. It was the number 1 attraction at Epcot but I'm sure Soarin' is going to take over, sadly.

It is just like the Stitch thing at Innoventions, except to a crowd of 150. The key to the show is to have questions for him. Especially if one of you do, have the rest of your group point towards the person, then Crush will be more likely to pick on ya!

When you come to visit Epcot Elissa, I'll host a show for ya!

I hope this is a decent ride. As far as I know WDI didn't have very much time to design and do the ride layout and such so hopefully this won't look rushed. From what I've heard it'll be same Superstar Limo path almost with rehabbed cars .. just hope it turns out nice.

No word yet on if the LCDs will be returning. Hopefully the effects will be better, although it will be hard to top the SSL tattoo effect. How DID they do that?

Monsters Inc: Mike and Sully to the Rescue is a bit long winded, I've taken to calling it "MASTTR" (master).

All we need now is some kind of BLASTTR ride and the Thunderdome themed section will be nigh complete.

MASTTR looks awesome! I hope it's no as cheap as SSL was. I really hated that ride. The only good thing was the LCD screens were cool. But, the dude that they showed in the LCD screen was pretty cheesy.

Please God let this mean no more CGI Joan Rivers.

Worst, queue video, ever.

I'm hoping that this may be a poor mans MIB sans the interactivity. If they are able to squeeze downtown monstopolis in that building they might just have something.

I wonder if they'll keep the on-ride picture.

At any rate sometime, somewhere, there will be a trash heap containing 1 4' Woopie minimitronic, and the sun will shine a little bit more that day.

From www.screamscape.com

http://www.screamscape.com/html/disneyland.htm (some photos on the site too)

Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage - Confirmed - (7/18/05) Disneyland confirmed the new Finding Nemo Submarines attraction will open in 2007 and decorated the huge construction wall around the lagoon with Nemo characters. From what I understand, you will board a sub to observe an undersea Volcano and are soon joined with Nemo and his friends who will be projected into the undersea world.

I have to be honest, while I'm happy to see the subs getting a new look and re-opening, I do have to wonder "Is this really what the Disneyland audience wants?"

I know this park has a LOT more local traffic than WDW, so perhaps the nostalgia of an old classic returning is a good fit for them?

^^I agree, it'd be nice to see a couple of these rides restored to there original state. This technology is cool and all but it'd be nice to have a classic or two. Keep the history in the park! But I'm sure this will be a good ride, too.

What I'm more concerned about is all the "Pixar-ization" of the parks, as I call it. First Buzz Lightyear at WDW, then Bug's Land at DCA, now Buzz Lightyear and Nemo at DL, and Monster's Inc. at DCA. Rumor has it a Cars attraction is coming to DCA soon too. I wonder when the next completely original ride not tied into an animated movie or character is going to show up at DL? I'm not counting the dumbed-down version of ToT, even though I think it's a great ride in itself.
