Disneyland Resort (DL, DLR, DCA) Discussion Thread

p. 393 - D23 announcement roundup for DL and DCA!

Hey I have downloaded info about the Monster inc. Ride

"Just before the Thanksgiving holiday, at Paramount Studios Scoring Stage M, music was recorded for a new ride at Disney's California Adventure. The new "dark ride" is based on the hit animated film Monsters, Inc., and appropriately uses music based on the score by Academy Award-winner Randy Newman.

Joey Newman conducts the Hollywood Studio Symphony

For the ride, Newman's score was arranged and adapted by long-time orchestrator Jonathan Sacks, which was then recorded and mixed by John Richards. The 50-piece Hollywood Studio Symphony was conducted by Joey Newman, and played the cues expertly.

Jonathan Sacks gives feedback on a cue

From the jazzy "Downtown Monsterville", to the dramatic "Scary" cues, the core of Newman's score is represented, and will be heard as riders travel through Monsterville on the sit-down styled ride.

John Richards mixes the score

The Monsters, Inc. ride is scheduled to open after the New Year"

I will be there own cast preview day!

^OMG!! NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!.....

If they are using the same system they seriously need to learn from their mistakes!!!

The problem with Limo was not the "ride system," per se, but the lame concept and execution of the scenery and "animatronics" (basically just giant bobbleheads of ABC TV stars). The ride vehicles, with their video monitors, were actually the best part of the ride, I think.

Heres another quote about the ride from Disney's CAlifornia Adventure website

"Open the door to a wild ride through the streets of Monstropolis! Hop in a taxi and follow along as Mike and Sulley embark on a mad scramble to return Boo to her bedroom, while keeping her safe from the sneaky Randall Boggs and the Child Detection Agency.

Scare up some 50th Anniversary fun in the Hollywood Pictures Backlot at Disney's California Adventure® park.

Chase through scenes inspired by Disney's presentation of a Pixar's "Monsters, Inc."

Receive a personal farewell from the ever-watchful Roz.

Category: Fun For Little Ones

Location: Hollywood Pictures Backlot

This attraction is Only at the Disneyland® Resort"

Ehh, I was kinda hoping it would be suspended, like the doors at the end of the movie...

Yeah, I was hoping, when they first announced the attraction, that the whole ride system would be replaced - into hanging doors 'vehicles'.

Well, even tho it's now geared as "Fun for little ones," maybe they'll speed up the cabs just a little bit, like they originally intended for SL.

I fear that this new ride will be a cheap redue of SuperStar Limo.

Lets face it, this was a less-than-worthy Disney Attraction.

Disney really needs to hold itself to a higher standard, and this isn't it.

Lets see some orginal ideas (AKA Expedition Everest) rather than this cheesy crap. Disney can and should do much better.

Yeah, it's still too bad.

And if they really wanted to do something special, they could gut and combine those two buildings side by side each other? (old Millionaire bldg. and SL/Monsters' one)

Then, they might have a good Big Space to create something inside of, hmmm? Looks Indy-big enough to me...

From everything I have heard (CM's have started to ride the unfinished version), it should be a solid C-ticket attraction.

I'm glad Disney is adding this. Not only does DCA need more things to do, it needs more family things to do. The rethemeing of the area and finally doing something with Limo is a step in the right direction. As noted, there is still space available in that area...

Oh, and I just thought I should mention that not every attraction can be an E-ticket. You guys try asking the board for $100+ million dollars for a new ride every year when you're park has performed well below initial expectation since it has opened and see how far you get.

^ Agreed. Nothing I've heard about the Monsters Inc ride is going to make me rush out and ride it. Hell, I didn't even finally ride Pooh until this year!

I *DO* however think that DL needs another E-Ticket. It's been what? 11 years now since Indy?

I understand that the park is under-performing, but when you offer dark ride after dark ride or I should say refurb after refurb what do you expect?

Think about it, 4 of the parks 6 "marketed attractions" will have been "refurbs" over the past 10 years (Tarzan's Treehouse, Autopia, Space Mountain, Subs) and the other two were dark rides (Buzz & Pooh). And that's not counting Monsters Inc which is another refurb. Hell, DCA isn't even 5 years old and they're already re-marketing attractions!

They have always said that DL caters mostly to locals, but now they aren't even building attractions locals will make an effort to ride. They were on a roll for a while (Star Tours, Splash Mountain & Indy almost back to back) and then nothing.....Sure you can argue that Screamin, Soarin' and Tower are great E-Tickets, but even still DCA feels like it's missing something.

Even I, who has been an annual passholder since 1986 didn't bother to renew this year, and nothing they have on the slate (Monsters, Subs, etc) is big enough to make me renew.

^ Amen Robb.

I find this idea quite good actually because DCA caters more to the teenager audience, but now it's starting to put in some more family catetered ideas such as Turtle Talk and Monsters Inc. Even though it is a regular dark ride like Snow White and Alice, I think it will be a nice edition to DCA.

Mousetimes, the website that lets me mooch off their gallery to host my SFMM updates, just did a DLR update--Monsters is now doing previews, as the area has opened up. You can see it HERE!

Its like Space Mountain--feels kinda like the old one, but its nice to finally have something in that space again.

DCA needs a dark ride. This fills the gap.

Eh...in my eyes, this only begins to fill the gap.

I *DO* however think that DL needs another E-Ticket. It's been what? 11 years now since Indy?

I understand that the park is under-performing, but when you offer dark ride after dark ride or I should say refurb after refurb what do you expect?

I too think that DL needs another E-ticket, but I would argue if the park is underperforming...In fact, I believe that it's the parks ability to carry its own, which makes Disney say "we dont need a new e-ticket". I mean, in recent years, DL park has seen quite a turn-around in attendance. Especially now, around the 50th, the park is showing that it can bring in locals simply off of marketing their past memories!

DCA is the park in question, if you ask me. No, Monsters Inc. isn't enough to bring me to the park. But then again, I wont go to the park as it is, since my 56 bucks will only last me 4 hours until I have to start reriding stuff! Tower of Terror has proven that you cant just build one new major attraction and expect to draw people in. Hell...if TOT was a copy of "good tower", I still think the park would be in the same situation.

Im sorry--I am having trouble explaining myself. Basically, I think DCA simply needs stuff to do. I mean, Robb, out of all honesty--- on your last DLR trip, you ran into DL, hit the big things, ran into DCA, hit those big things, and then you were out of there. But most of us spend a full day at these parks. I need to know that there is a full day of stuff to do before I put down my 56 bucks.

So no, Monsters isn't gonna draw me to the park by itself. But it contributes to making the park Jahan's-money-worthy. Two more of these C tickets, some well integrated flats, throw in a pinch of e-ticket, and perhaps a new night-time stage show, and I will be willing to spend a day at DCA.

Just my thoughts.
