Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

P. 2037: Siren’s Curse tilt coaster announced for 2025!

Recommended Posts

It looks like they turned Ripcord a bit now that SkyScraper is gone? It used to be angled to dive towards the water park and now it looks like it is going towards Magnum...but it could just be the way the map was drawn, I suppose.

Still hoping they move it somewhere else and expand the water park into that area next year.

Also noticed how big that plot of open land is now that STR is gone!

No, it's definitely not turned that way just to make the map look better, this is a completely accurate representation of how the park looks. I saw them turning the ride on webcams today. It was cool, they just lifted it up with a crane and then angled it slightly and bolted it into place at a slightly different angle. It was a wonderful use of time and money and they're projecting the slightly different angle to boost ridership by approximately 700% next season (according to inside sources).

I hate Cedar Fair's cartoony maps...

Agree. The current Cedar Point map is over-styled, and the clutter makes it quite difficult to follow. I prefer the park map from the late 80's/early 90's. It was easier on the eyes.

... Aside from that the map looks cluttered...

I agree. Maybe Cedar Fair should stop building so many awesome attractions. I mean, all it does is make the park maps look cluttered.

I think it's a legitimate complaint. It is a little hard to follow, and that has absolutely nothing to do with the number of attractions at the park. Not every question or complaint is a stupid one.

I can not figure out for the life of me how a park map can be hard to follow. Especially if you are in the park. If you are in the park, and you look up and see Valravn, then you find Valravn on the map, once you find Valravn you will know where you are on the map. . . Follow the path in front of you, and the one that matches that path on the map, and eventually you will get to where you are wanting to go. I don't get what is so hard or confusing about that.

I personally love Cedar Fair's maps. I don't find them challenging to follow at all, and I love the exaggerated layouts of the roller coasters. My only complaint, however, would be inaccurate colors (like Coast Rider & Boomerang on the Knott's map), but that's a minor thing that the GP probably don't notice or care about.

Not everyone has a VIP Tour Guide taking them everywhere, surprisingly.

Ohhhhhhhh, good. Glad you could clear that up for me.

Some of us have been to the park as a "normal guest" . . . You know, without the assistance of a VIP Tour Guide. To my surprise with a park map in hand, we were able to navigate the park just fine. Never once did we look at the park map and get confused because it was to cluttered.

I didn't need you to explain to me how a map works, but thanks for that.

I don't personally use the maps other than finding food locations for the dining pass at parks I've been to and know my way around, but if you're a first time visitor or use reading glasses, then it can absolutely be a challenge to figure out the configuration of the pathways based on the map. Most of the map is the coasters blocking off bottlenecks in the midways. It almost looks like Dragster cuts off the Gemini midway, and Frontiertown is kind of a mess with Skyhawk covering half the pathways mid-swing on the map.

I appreciate when parks use some artistic freedom to make the major rides stand out and easier to recognize. I also like to keep a copy of a map when I visit a new park. But for functionality, this probably isn't the best way to go. No, it's not horrible, and I'm not really complaining about it at all, but I don't think it's invalid to say that it's a little hard to read the map.

Speaking of maps, I always enjoyed the layout of Avalanche Bobsleds on this old King's Dominion map.

I have a map from KD in '98 when Volcano was brand new, and Avalanche has the same "layout". Which is even crazier because it's completely restylized from this one. Which means the artist was going over the old map as he was making the new one, took a look at Avalanche, went "yup, still looks good!" and did it the exact same way.

Cuz I'm following the map that leads to you

the map that leads to you, aint nothing I can do, the map that leads to yo... following following follow...

I'll show myself out. Also are these people complaining about the map serious? Who cares? If you want to see an accurate aerial view of the park from above I have the perfect solution.

Yea that really threw me off one time when I was trying to build Boomerang in RCT.

This map is glorious. I would love to see them go back to this style. Also, wall maps are kind of my thing.

It's actually funny how much people are getting bent out of shape over the fact that some of us don't like the map style they use now. Yes, we know it still does the job, it's just an opinion.

This off season can't end soon enough!
