Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

p. 2030 - Top Thrill 2 announced!

Recommended Posts

Well seeing as CP has increased operating hours until midnight on Friday and Saturday I don't see attendance being down. Why increase the hours if attendance is down.

Cedar Point has always been open till midnight on the 4th of July and Saturdays in July for as long as I can remember, this year it happened to be on a Friday, so the midnight closings were back to back. I would assume attendance would be down this year, as there were no major record breaking additions, aka a major roller coaster, added this year. I'm sure every park has a down year attendance-wise the year after adding a major roller coaster.

Per Cedar Point's Tweet. They are offering to rename an unamed coaster, "King James" if he returns to the Cavs. According to the Plain Dealer, this is a serious offer.

Mean Streak becomes King James?

Edit: For those that aren't in the US or could care less about sports, this is in reference to the NBA player LeBron James coming back to Cleveland.

^^ Ugh, I don't get into the NBA that often (I do love to go to Pacers games though), but if they rename Mean Streak "King James," that HAS to be the final nail into the imminent coffin for this ride. Like they should hold an official naming ceremony, then immediately take a wrecking ball straight into the lift hill

Also I have serious doubts he's heading back to Cleveland...

Between Plain Dealer (paper and web news) and sports radio here (Cleveland), there is a general feeling he is coming back. I am fully aware I am drinking the Kool-Aid. As a Cleveland sports fan I am immune to the "poisoned Kool-Aid of sports disappointment." Sounds silly to outsider but many Cleveland sports fans have little to look forward to. So any good news

That said. I think it is totally hilarious that they will do this. Despite it's national/international attention, Cedar Point is still a regional amusement park. The skeletons on the Millennium Force bridge/cover/thing do sign out, O-H-I-O during Halloweekends.

Edit: I can't spell. Fixed that.

Renaming Mean Streak "King James" would actually fit quite nicely.

What do they have in common? Well...

Both are an oversize, past-its-prime, bad idea in retrospect investment, and neither were worth the money.

OHH! Burn!

Just kidding.

I don't actually see them renaming any coaster "King James." Maybe some merchandise though.

I know. That was childish. Forgive me.

Edit: and neither can finish very strong. Ok, now I'm done.

I'm betting on mean streak and here's why: there's been rumors about CP doing that mean streak upgrade in 2016, and while they're only rumors, If they did turn out to be true, then we would most likely he seeing a new name. Which, if that is the case, then the King James name would only be around for 1 year. So it could be a case of "Cedar Point only wants the name around for a season" or it could be that they want the name around for a while, and so they could name a different coaster King James. If that were the case, then I think it'd be one of the smaller coasters at the park(not wilderness run). Just my 2 cents.

Wow I thought you guys were to harsh on mean streak until I went to cedar point today and rode it for the first time. But it amazes me how something that looks so good can be so bad. There were no redeeming qualities for this ride whatsoever.

i wonder if you really watch sports!? lol Why do you have serious doubts he is coming back to Cleveland? Why do you waste Pacer tickets if you don't watch NBA?

#confused about non-sports fans using good sports tickets

Quoted for truth from a fresh perspective. You nailed it on the head, it is a beautiful sight to behold. Have you seen pictures of it from the lake? My goodness it's coaster porn. But to actually ride... Nobody is exaggerating. Nobody.

Very smart marketing by CP if they decide to name a coaster after LeBron, the locals will absolutely eat that up. Cavs fans are very passionate about their team and I recall what a big outrage there was when LeBron left the Cavs for Miami

So I read that the Good Time Theatre which now where the ice skating show takes place, used to be an Imax theater. Is this true? I have never been in the theatre. Does anybody have picture of it now vs back when it was a Imax theatre? Any memories of it and how did they do the construction from one to another and pictures of the construction? I think it would be interesting to see how they did it. Thanks.

I'm not a sports fan and I can't see how anyone can be a sports fan in Cleveland (my opinion, don't hate me fellow Clevelanders) but I absolutely hate the idea of naming a coaster after Lebron even if it is a smart marketing idea. If it happens I hope it's not Lebron-nium Force.
