Furion Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 So Cedar Point filed a trademark application for the word "Valravn" this past week. It's a 'blanket application' covering amusement park rides, services, and all types of souvenirs, as is typical for their attraction trademarks. Looking into the mythology of the word, it appears to be a supernatural Raven creature from Danish folklore. It actually has a pretty dark/scary story, and you can read all about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valravn It's a pretty safe bet to assume this mark is intended for use at Cedar Point specifically, because it was filed by "Cedar Point Park" (like the application for Rougarou) and not by "Cedar Fair Management" (like the applications for Fury 325, Voyage to the Iron Reef , etc.). Of course, whether or not they actually end up using the name is another story (*cough* Centurion *cough*), but these applications aren't free, so there's at least currently some intent to use it.
NickC Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 (edited) Oooh, interesting... I think that would be a pretty cool name for a coaster, and it fits in with the "mythical creatures" kick they seem to be on with GateKeeper and Rougarou. And I know it's typical for these trademark applications to include this, but I find it somewhat hilarious in this case that it includes "plush toys" (and other kid stuff) when a Valravn is described as: capable of turning into the form of a knight after consuming the heart of a child and a peaceless soul in search of redemption that flies by night (but never day) and can only free itself from its animal countenance by consuming the blood of a child. All the kids will want one! Edited April 25, 2015 by NickC
ECZenith Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 New at CP in 2016, Valravn Candy Bites, now with extra child hearts! That is a seriously messed up sounding mythological creature, I prefer this to DiveHawk.

MagnumFreak25 Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 What's with them trying to pick names no one can pronounce, seriously do they expect people to say that? Anyway that seems like it fit perfectly for some haloween kinda thing but merchandise wouldn't happen with that. I'm almost leaning towards that as a dark ride than a dive machine just for the fact of it's creepyness. And am I the only one who would pay the park to trademark DiveHawk 232 just to see the reaction?

Too dark *coug* Banshee *Cough* Even worse, that leaves CW with the ever boring, un-intimidating name of "ziz" for their next coaster *sigh*

I actually like the name!! I can't wait to see the new (as we are all going to assume) Dive Machine. I feel given the name they could actually attempt some decent theming. . . Well... we can hope. I think the name fits in well with the Rougarou name.
ferk60 Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 This name is awful. I hope these are just trying to throw us off the scent.
TB305 Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 This name is awful. I hope these are just trying to throw us off the scent. Care to elaborate? Sounds like a great name for a dive machine to me!

Sounds like a great name for a dive machine to me! He really doesn't need to elaborate. The name stinks. Not only is it going to be terrible to try and pronounce, but nobody really knows what a Valravn is before they Google it.

It's literally Val-Raven but without the E between the V and the N. It's not that complicated, and I'm sure it'll be like Leviathan, Gatekeeper, Banshee and have a giant bird statue with the name. People will put 2+2 together, and realize it's Valravn. Thus realizing it's pronounced Val-Raven.
ariznglori Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 I wonder if they might attempt to theme their dive machine and give it a dark ride-like lift hill with a back-story to go with the name Valravn--wouldn't mind seeing Cedar Fair take a crack at it! I think it's great that they are trying to find some mythological creatures and concepts that haven't been beaten to death in pop culture to incorporate into the parks. They add personality and a great new layer of fun.
Gnome Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 Anyone else wish that they would go back to the old ways of naming coasters and call this one Vertical drop coaster 1?
linearinduction Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 Has Cedar Point made any mention of the BeaverTails Pastry Location Opening in 2015? www.beavertailsinc.com/stores/cabins
ImNotOneOfYou Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 I don't think they need any new roller coasters. Fixing Raptor's transition to the final brake run will complete the park
MagnumFreak25 Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 I actually like that turn..... It's a nice snappy ending. I think they should add some more extreme flat rides personally, I really think a gerstlauer sky fly would work well there. Maybe a zamperla star shape too.

Yeah I wish they had as many flats as those SF parks! Maybe they could add one of those thrilling Diablo Loopers from Larson.

I think Six Flags is making a smart move by adding these Super Loops, I just wish they wouldn't call them coasters. I think a Super Loop would be a great addition at Cedar Point too.
