Wow I thought you guys were to harsh on mean streak until I went to cedar point today and rode it for the first time. But it amazes me how something that looks so good can be so bad. There were no redeeming qualities for this ride whatsoever.

Quoted for truth from a fresh perspective. You nailed it on the head, it is a beautiful sight to behold. Have you seen pictures of it from the lake? My goodness it's coaster porn. But to actually ride... Nobody is exaggerating. Nobody.

 

I have ridden both Mean Streak and Timberwolf at WOF in the last two weeks, and Timberwolf makes Mean Streak feel like an Intamin.

 

Sure MS is rough (although my ride in the front row wasn't really too bad), but Timberwolf is a chiropractor's wet dream. I've ridden it many times over the years since it opened, but it is now seriously the worst pile of crap I've ever ridden and Mean Streak wasn't even close IMO...

It's red but whatever. Whatever coaster gets the rename, they should paint it bright orange.

I bet you, if they actually do this, they will add King James as a sub-name. Like "Maverick, The King James Roller Coaster". Or "Raptor: The King James Thrill ride". I do not see then totally renaming a ride completely, or for more then a short period of time.

Magnum opened with 'scarlet red' track and was repainted to 'molly orange'. Its more redish than orangeish. I say its red when describing it to people.

I think the ride could be MaxAir. I know that May not be the general consensus, but if MaxAir is renamed,then there will be less fallback if it goes badly. If it's a coaster, then it'll be either Mean Streak, Corkscrew, or maybe Mantis.

Are there any rides at Cedar Point that are planned on getting a repainting next year? If so, they could paint it the team colors of the Cavaliers and rename it "King James".

Mantis colors really aren't that far off, Cavs colors are gold, maroon (wine), and navy. Maybe they can rename it and then change the ride to floorless/sit down the following year. One can dream...

That's exactly what I thought. I would imagine it would be changed to a floor less since that would really improve the coaster.

Stand might just be a hint to Mantis. There have been rumors of floorless trains on Mantis soon and it does need new paint. Like you all said it is practically Cavs colors already.

I have a few theories:

 

Mantis- Paint the top of the track yellow and the supports red and maybe the rumored floorless trains. Maybe paint the ride's plaza to look like a basketball court?

 

Wicked Twister- It's an awful name in my opinion and all they have to do is paint the supports red, maybe add a loud basketball buzzer when it hits the highest point? Plus it goes back and forth.

 

Mean Streak- All they have to do is paint the trains and if they RMC it they just have to keep the name for a few years.

 

I personally don't care about basketball but as an Ohioan that's been forced to listen to all of this that's my two cents on it.

I hope the one receiving the name change is Mantis. I don't particularly like the name and the paint scheme is pretty hideous. I really doubt that they are going to change the trains, but they could surprise me.

Marketing is a beautiful thing. Hence why I decided to earn a Bachelor Degree in Marketing. Cedar Point's tweet did exactly what they wanted it to do; make all of you talk about Cedar Point on social media and get the park some cheap exposure. Absolutely brilliant idea! Probably for some short period of time a coaster will take on the nickname "King James," but Cedar Point isn't stupid enough to permanently rename and re-theme a ride to feed the ego of a famous athlete.

It probably would be easier to rename one of Maverick's trains to "King James".

This name change will probably only last a day and there will probably only be one sign referring to it... kind of like when Six Flags had to rename Texas Giant to San Francisco Giant after the World Series.
