Henry M Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 Does Switchback railway at Dreamland Margate count as old or brand new?
ImNotOneOfYou Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 If I say Leap the Dips do I win because I've ridden the oldest roller coaster in the world or do I lose because that means I've spent time at Lakemont Park?

You lose. I felt like a loser because I had to go twice to ride it.  By the way, I love that it's officially "sh*t on Lakemont" day. If I had it my way that would be every day but I'd imagine some person who was desperate to show us that they enjoyed "misunderstood classic amusement parks" more than we do would get all pissy.

I'm hating on Lakemont Park so much because I liked it the first time I went there and after visiting it again I wasn't focusing on the park being a historic place. This is also the first time I felt this strongly about a park
flaffstar Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 (edited) I've not ridden any really old coaster until now, only wildcats on fairgrounds, but I can't find any information about these, So mine would be Python at Efteling (35 years old). Edited July 28, 2016 by flaffstar
CrazedZooChimp Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 The Giant Dipper at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk! Still a really good ride even after 92 years. Someday I want to go ride the 1 year younger Giant Dipper one down in San Diego.
Cyrbuzz Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 Blue Streak at Cedar Point was the oldest coaster I've ridden so far.
KPfan Posted July 30, 2016 Posted July 30, 2016 I've ridden Leap the Dips as well. Fun piece of history! Skyliner wasn't all that bad either. Lakemont isn't much but it's no worse than some other parks such as Conneaut. I thought Lakemont had a decent water park for the kids as well.
ytterbiumanalyst Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 I have a new oldest coaster--Legend at Arnolds Park
TheCoasterKid211 Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 I think it was Thunderhawk at Dorney.... though I can't be entirely sure.
Masquerade Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 Jack Rabbit at Kennywood. Â Followed by Thunderhawk, The Racer, and Cyclone.
XII Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 Rutschebanen @ Tivoli Gardens. 1914. 3rd oldest coaster still operating to this date.
Coaster19 Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 Leap the Dips at Lakemont Park   I didn't really know if the oldest operating coaster would be that noteworthy other than it being the oldest, but I will tell you that thing runs so weird and awesome! It is so sensitive to weather and the small drops feel big just because the car basically falls out from under you and is all over the place. It was tons of fun!  I full agree. This ride surprised me so much! I was not expecting much, but it truly is a hidden gem.  My oldest is obvious 'Leap the Dips' as well!   Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
MidwestThemeParks Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 This isn't that old, but I think mine is Blue Streak at Cedar Point (1964).
CedarFanboy Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 Thunderhawk at Dorney is what, the eighth oldest still operating? Just turned 92 earlier this year.
Nrthwnd Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 Pretty sure... Â Cyclone Luna Park (Brooklyn, New York, USA) Â "Operating since 6/26/1927" Â There could be a few in Europe or Asia, but I'm not too sure. Â Yet.
I305forever Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 Leap the Dips! The oldest in the world! By the way, did you know that the Wild One is older than the Cyclone?
Blatch Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 My oldest credit happens to be at my home park. Â Suffice it to say... Yankee Cannonball.
coneyislandchris Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 Did Leap the Dips yesterday with my son on our way back from Cedar Point. Was not expecting much, but it ended up being a ton of fun. I think the lack of seatbelts and lapbars really increased the fun factor for us. Â Heck, for that matter, I was shocked that not a single one of the Lakemont coasters had seatbelts. I really can't remember the last time I saw that at a park. I like it though! Skyliner with buzz bars only was awesome. Toboggan was... well, it was Toboggan.
flagrockerthegreat Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 The Beast The Racer The Voyage  those were my oldest rides on the list. we need that.
CaptainCrush Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 Wild One at Six Flags in Maryland, 99 years old and still going strong!
