Jerrykoala2112 Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Oy, that thing is so stall! I love drop towers and all, but I am so scared of heights. If I were to pee my pants on that thing, it would probably evaporate before it would touch the ground!
Commando Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Wait. Its going on the side of super man? Thats awesome!
coasterdude2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 I love drop towers so much but this one makes me a bit nervous even. At Cedar Point the GP has enough trouble getting on a 301ft Windseeker, a 415ft drop tower would scare the crud out of most people. I love the idea of it, but it should be interesting to see how many people go on it when it opens.
AJClarke0912 Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 This looks absolutely amazing! Perfect addition! That would be so scary but awesome.
forces Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 The view alone will make it worth riding this!!!
snoflake15 Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Is it just me or is there something 'las vegassy' about it? Â Which is a good thing by the way.
WOFfan Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Oh my god. That looks awesome! But SFMM is getting too much stuff, they're probably not gonna get another new thing for years after building this...
alexinla Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Here is a video with all the 2012 Announcements, including a animated clip from the new Freefalltower http://affiliate.kickapps.com/_2012Announcement/video/1630383/151061.html?b=
A.J. Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 That video has footage of a blue coaster with what looks like Arrow track... Â SHOCKWAVE.
Tmcdllr Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 (edited) Oh my god. That looks awesome! But SFMM is getting too much stuff, they're probably not gonna get another new thing for years after building this... Â Getting too much stuff....not getting another new thing for years? Â Don't be too sure of that! Â The new CEO did say he wants a new attraction at every park every year. Edited September 1, 2011 by Tmcdllr
Plasmasonic Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 415 FEET IS VERY HIGH LOL! Â This is the perfect addition!! I really like the fact that they are building it on the side of Superman - The Escape. It makes it that much more awesome. The side-by-side themes (Lex Luthor VS Superman) are a great concept. I can't wait to try it out even though I'll be SO scared on the way to the top.. It will totally be worth it I'm sure! Hahaha 415feet drop tower... I still can't believe it LOL...!!! AWESOME!!!
MrMorgan Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Doesn't the tower shake and bend a little bit when the Superman cars are launched up it? How is that going to work?
Tmcdllr Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Doesn't the tower shake and bend a little bit when the Superman cars are launched up it? How is that going to work? Â Yes it does and it will work just fine, it will make it more SCARY!
ernierocker Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Video now added to announcement post here: http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=26782&p=1083902#p1083902
Guy T. Koepp Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Even the video tends to give you vertigo. This is going to be an awesome addition.
cfc Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 So, now the parallels with Dreamworld's Tower of Terror/Giant Drop are complete--excellent!
Plasmasonic Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 It reaches speeds of 85mph during the drop. Very impressive! And a 5-second freefall is a VERY LONG freefall!!!
noregrets Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 This is amazing and I'm very impressed. I wouldn't have even thought this tower could be used for this! Six Flags is making its way back into my good graces. And 2012 will be the best year for us enthusiasts since the late 90s
KI Kidd Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Looks really fun! Great use of an already existing structure. The only downside is capacity, I can see this having some LONG waits next year.
AllenA07 Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Many many years ago when I was running SFMMGuide.com (I don't think it's a shameless plug if the site isn't active anymore) I had heard a few rumors that the park was looking into to building on the side of Superman. What followed was a long (and painful) discussion about why the Superman tower could never support a drop ride. Apparently it can! Â Truth be told, I'm not sure that I would be willing to climb aboard that thing. I do have a bit of a fear of heights and 415 feet is getting up there in terms of height. Â I do wonder what the cost of doing this is. By that I mean, is it overall cheaper for the park to build onto the existing tower then it would be to simply build another structure. Honestly I really have no idea either way it does however make me curious.
DBJ Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 A great use of the available space. Nice to see them "go big" once again for next year. I will be interested to see where they put the station and queque line, perhaps using the former monorail tunnel.
coasterfreak101 Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Well I'm officially excited. And terrified. Drop Zone scares the poo out of me and it's more than a hundred feet smaller!
PKI Jizzman Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Honestly I don't know why this wasn't a bigger idea before. Â Dreamworld turned their "Superman" backwards first, and claimed to have the idea first. Only right that SFMM takes over the Tallest drop tower in the world.
chadster Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 I just came, and not just a tiny bit, I'm talking I had to take a shower and discard my clothes. This will be effing amazing. Now, just what are they going to put in the old Deja Vu site, hmmmm.
XYZ Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Can't they put a drop tower ON Superman: Escape from Krypton like on the Tower of Terror II? Â The base towers for Superman and Tower of Terror are VERY different. Â I knew it, I knew it. I knew they would "copy" Tower of Terror II again by putting a drop tower on it. Most thought that I was insane , though I saw this coming from far away.
